MTV To Air DJ AM's Documentary Series In October

Filed under: MTV > DJ A.M.

MTV has received consent from Adam "DJ A.M." Goldstein's family to air his intervention documentary series Gone Too Far beginning on October 12.

His family says of Adam and the show:

"After careful consideration we have decided to air the show. Adam felt strongly that by doing this series he could help other addicts who were at a crisis point to get sober. Adam was fully aware that if it were not for his own sobriety he never would have achieved the level of success and happiness he had found. Helping people in their recovery was a huge part of Adam’s life. It is our hope through airing this show that people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others. The decision to air the show has been difficult, but we do this with the profound belief that it will inspire others to seek help."

The show features young real-life addicts and their loved ones who are attempting the road to recovery with help from Adam.

We agree with his family and think airing the series will get Adam's message out to a larger audience and be an even bigger inspiration to people struggling with addiction.

You are missed, Adam.

I think he would have liked this.. Good move as long as it helps at least one person or more it is well worth it…

  2. 2

So sad. Really, the pain his family must have went through having to make that decision. I do wonder how his death will make the "young real-life addicts" feel in the end. I hope there is a way to spin it so that they don't see what happened to him and think it's hopeless for them,

Peres, you said "We agree with his family and think airing the series will get Adam's message out to a larger audience and be an even bigger inspiration to people struggling with addiction."

Really? How so? His message is "Hi, I used to date somebody who was kinda famous. and now I'm going to tell you how to stay off drugs…oh please ignore the fact that I just O.D.'d a month ago."

It's like having a documentary where Karen Carpenter is telling everybody to eat a healthy diet.

didn't he die of an overdose?? Yep he did so in other words he didn't succeed at rehab!! Hope he DID help those druggies.

  5. 5

THATS SO GREAT I HOPE MTV LATINAMERICA TRANSMIT THE SHOW TOO!!!!

  6. 6

ARE THEY GOING TO SHOW US ALL HOW TO O.D. AS WELL….STOP WORSHIPING THIS JUNKIE ALREADY.

  7. 7

Re: Spindoc – Or Lindsay Lohan encouraging people to go to rehab. HA! Just the thought….

  8. 8

I am glad they are airing this. It's a precarious thing to be an addict. Just because he had a relapse does NOT make all his efforts to stay sober and help others hypocritical. In the end, this man suffered the ultimate negative consequence of addiction–losing his life. Undoubtedly, his family and friends are going through an incredibly painful time. If you choose to judge, that is about you and your choice to be negative and compassion-less. That is about your character, not Adam's.

  9. 9

A hypocritical show about a druggie telling teens to not be like him? NICE!

  10. 10

    he was a cutey!

Re: Spiritflow12 – You said "If you choose to judge, that is about you and your choice to be negative and compassion-less. That is about your character, not Adam's. "

Nope, sorry, we aren't the ones who OD'd, he did, I'm so sorry if our "Judgement" that dying of an overdose sounds somehow "Negative" to your little rainbow and unicorn ears, but the fact of the matter is, he couldn't hold it together and OD'd, so a film of him talking about how great it is to be sober is absolutly an excsercise in the absurd.

Re: Spindoc – LOL! I will pop some popcorn before sitting down and watching this hypocrite's show. What's next? Kirstie Alley hosting a show about weight loss?

  13. 13

bad move to air it.. dont do drugs.. yet he dies from having 10,0000 drugs in his system from coccaine to prescription meds…

    whateverrrr

  14. 14

I always get a twinge of sadness for him when I see his picture. He didn't seem like the typical Hollywood jerk. He sure had the typical Hollywood demons, but he fought a really courageous fight for almost 10 years until the demons reared their ugly heads again and won the battle. RIP Adam.

  15. 15

He was a DJ People, not Ghandi, Not Mother Theresa, not even Obama. He is/was a Disc Jockey at Night Clubs. He was a Psuedo Celebrity, a "hanger- on" to other celebs that made him famous. Never even heard of the dude until the plane crash. Why is there such a fascination with this addict? MTV is wasting their time… his "msg gets out to others..? what message? The one that says relapse and kill yourself? An Adddict is an Addict because they dont get help… more than likely because they do not want it.

  16. 16

    will it air in canada?

    rip

  17. 17

dumbest idea ever. Yeah a guy who was only sorta famous for sleeping with a well known girl or two and being a crackhead, Od's so now we need to hear his musings on how to stay sober? OBVIOUSLY he did not know how to stay sober!!

  18. 18

    STOP WORSHIPING THIS JUNKIE ALREADY.

and btw they have a good show on already about addicts. It's called intervention!

  19. 19

Come on VH1, ethics are overrated, do you want ratings or what???

  20. 20

    RIP DJ!

  21. 21

This guy was clean for almost 10 yrs. He committed suicide. This isn't about addiction, it's about depression & suicide. The guilt of living through a plane crash when 2 of his friends died.

  22. 22

Yeah, great idea. Lets further glorify this useless junkie. He's no hero people. And is this really entertainment? Cornering people with cameras to force them into rehab??? Is this constructive? Do we need to see this? Only in America…

  23. 23

    Re: Ultraworld

"This guy was clean for 10 years" - love how you say that like its a fact. How would you know? Maybe he was never clean?? He should be feeling 'guilty' now for throwing his life down the drain when others on that plane had theirs taken from them. What a coward.

  24. 24

Good for them. Yeah, I reckon he would be pleased with this. It's very brave of his family. Must respect to them. I hope it will have the effect they want…sure it will.

  25. 25

    REST IN PEACE.

  26. 26

Great more garbage and visual diarrhea spewed by MTV, the cesspool of Western culture.

  27. 27

Even if it helps one person to NEVER even start using drugs - or to save someone from doing what he did - it will be worth it. Maybe it will OPEN some addicts eyes to straighten up for once and for all. You know LIFE is hard enough - why do people go down that road to make your life harder - not to mention all the money you waste on that crap… I think people who choose to do that have a Stupidity gene in their gene pool - because unless you're deaf, dumb and blind everyone knows what drugs and alcohol do to mess up your mind and heart and body.My dad was an alcoholic, so I choose to drink moderately-to me it was kind of a no brainer. Are people really that dumb? The picture of him is endearing - he wasted his life - hope his shows saves some lives

  28. 28

I am so grateful that they are going to air this show it will show all these nasty people talking about how he was just a dj and all this bs about him but in the end he was a human just like us no matter how much money he had no matter how he lived his life and no matter how many demons he had. He seemed like a wonderful guy that I wish I could have met. We have all made mistakes once in our life and it is not mine or anyone else place to judge him for his actions. So why dont you people who wanna talk all this bs about him and stop and think about what if he was your son or brother or friend then would you be saying all this nasty stuff about him I DOUBT IT. So before you look at how dirty someone else hands are clean your own first!!! This was a great idea to air his show thanks to all the family members who had a say in this along with MTV for giving Adam the dream of making this series to help other come true.

  29. 29

OK, this article is where Perez shows that he is neither honest, accurate, and that his inconsistent reporting is based on subjective and perhaps self-serving factors. For example, he does not even mention, the possibility that part of the motivation for airing these segments is the almighty $$$$$$. That does not mean it is the only motivation, but it is quite a plausible one. Any moron can figure that out. And furthermore, it doesn't take anything away from DJ AM, or his parents to acknowledge that they could have $$$$ as part of the motivation. This website is really amateurish.

I am glad! He has been an inspiration to so many people. I cannot wait for this to air!!
    RIP AM…
