Zombies Crush Drew!!!
Filed under: Film Flickers > Drew Barrymore > Woody Harrelson
The living dead dominated at the box office this weekend!
Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, earned a surprising $25 million and took the top spot at the US box office!
And that also means that a few roller derby girls were left in the dust!
Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip It, did nothing of the sort this past week as it earned a measly $4.9 million! The film was also beaten by Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Disney's Toy Story double feature, The Invention of Lying and Surrogates.
Yikes!
How does it really feel to be whipped?!

I saw Zombieland yesterday with my boyfriend. It was AWESOME. Just enough gore, heart and genuine LOL moments.
Duh! No way a movie about rollerblading would beat zombie mayhem! I wanna see it!
everything about zombieland was amazing
And so the Studios will continue to pump out lame crowd pleasing films. Luckily, the run up to award season is around the corner, and the quality of films being released will rise markedly.
Z-Land ruled!!! I saw it!
i was one of the few that saw the movie…and i loved it!
well, it's a small movie and it opened in only select theathers. I'm suprised Zombieland took the lead though, I was sure that Toy Story was gonna smash the box office.
I'll take a heaping helping of Woody Harrelson any day, over Giggles Barrymore.
To be fair, FoxSearchlight is a smaller independent studio and Whip It was released in about half as many theatres as Zombieland. I saw both and they are both great movies! I think Whip It will be one of those movies that does better through word of mouth. I loved it!
I saw Whip It, and it was a really wonderful film….it's not just about rollerblading, and Jimmy Fallon about stole the movie!!
but still 4.9 million more than your loser tour
aww i saw zombieland and it was great. still want to see whip it though. it got overshadowed by everything else that's out. i bet it'll do better next weekend.
I actually saw whip it over the weekend - not by choice and it was REALLY GOOD!!!! Definitely a girl movie though
I saw "Whip It" Last night and thought it was hilarious. I ♥'d it. They played awesome music through-out the movie, which is always a plus. Juliett Lewis was great in it. The whole cast was good, Even though it didn't dominate at the box office, it's still a great movie. I would definately recommend it to anyone =]
OMG it was hilarious.
The best zombie movie I've seen this year! I'm hungry for more.
It doesn't surprise me at all that Zombieland brought in 25 mill and knocked everyone else out of the ball park…. the trailer looked absolutely hilarious!! Woody is one of the funniest actors out there!!
))
sorry drew but you suck and you're corny. do something else.
My grandma saw whip it yesterday. I'll have to ask her how she liked it..
It proves that no one in America wants to see two dyke's act like they are cool.
Take heed Lady Gags on dicks
I saw Zombieland this weekend. BEST movie I've seen in awhile. So f'n funny. Loved it.
Whip It has great reviews.. so does Zombieland… but Zombieland just appeals to a more broad audience. I'll watch Whip It when it comes to HBO lol
Poor Drew
Re: atiny_dancer – LMAO…….I know, right? He was sooooooo random but freaking hilarious. I was not expecting to see him OR Eve in the movie. Landon Pigg was random as well.
yeah but whip it wasn't even playing in most theatres, i had to look for a specific theatre playing the movie
ZOMBIELAND WAS AMAZING!

My dream man.
Zombieland kicked ass!!!! Woody was such a bad ass I loved it!!!!
It may have not done good but neither did your lame ass tour! At least Drew will reap the fruits of her labor with it's DVD release. It's DVD release will be; huge and that always counts. It will be a cult classic!
I saw the film before it entered the theater and I thought it was wonderful. Love Ellen
Page way better than some 3D Disney bullshit Movie!
i will rent whip it but i plan on seeing zombieland this weekend
Woody !!!!!!!
drew's roller movie is so 80's
hahahahahaha. barrymore is full of hype. she's traded on nepotism for years. glad her movie's failing.
Well Whip It wasn't released at as many theaters as the other movies that "whipped" her. Also, she did this for herself, so she can get her feet wet in directing, I don't think she's all that money hungry that this is going to upset her.
IMO, Zombieland looked awful, but I am not into zombies..
I loved Whip It. I saw it opening night…but then again I am from Austin, and know some of the real Roller Derby girls…
Drew barely advertised that flick till the last minute. It was cute. I'm now a new Kristin Wiig fan (love her as Suzie Orman on SNL!)
I am happy to have contributed to that measly 4.9 mil. Whip it was a wicked movie!
i watched both and "whip it" its definitely better
To all the idiots who point out, correctly, than Whip It only played on half as many screens as Zombieland…the point is per theatre average. That is to say Zombieland was set up from the beginning to beat Whip It in total earned, but in each of it's 3000+ theaters Zombieland made over $8000 per theatre, while in it's 1700 theatres Whip It only made about $2000 per theatre. The best hope for Whip It is positive word of mouth and legs (not roller-girl legs but week to week small declines in viewers).
i think that whip it has limited screening?
Because it didn't play in my city but all the other movies did!
Invention of lying wasn't good though
Um, Whip It is not about the "80's" or "rollerblading". Its about a resurgence of Roller Derby, played by kick ass women. And not all girls that skate are "dykes" (in fact most aren't) as "willsamer" above so elequently stated, but who cares if they are? If you are threatened by that, probably shouldn't read a gay mans blog, right? Then again, judging by your icon, not everyone can be a cool gamer like you. Have fun with your WOW, douchebag.
I saw Zombie on Sat and Whip on Sunday. They shouldn't really be compared because they are really different types of movies. Both were really really good for the type of movie that it is.
Ok, if one more person mentions "Whip it" as being about roller blading you will each recieve a roller derby beatdown courtesty of a legit derby girl. while i can't hate on zombieland for i hear it kicked ass, come on people support your local roller derby. they will support you via beer. love you perez
i wanna see whip it and zombieland they both look like awesome movies
