Ex-husband of Little Britain star Matt Lucas Commits Suicide

This is so tragic!
British comedian Matt Lucas' ex-husband, Kevin McGee, took his own life yesterday after leaving an ominous Facebook message: "Kevin McGee thinks death is better than life."
After a concerned friend called the police about the message, his body was found hanging in his home in Scotland.
McGee was said to be very depressed after splitting from Lucas 10 months ago after being together 6 years, including getting married in December 2006. Additionally, his drug usage had "spiraled out of control."
Matt Lucas is "utterly destroyed" by the news pulling out of both an awards ceremony and the West End show Prick Up Your Ears, in which he is the star. Little Britain co-star David Walliams is comforting his friend through this difficult time.
Apparently, McGee's drug use was the reason for the demise of their relationship because Lucas couldn't handle it anymore. Although he had attended rehab in the past, living in Lucas' world of fame was difficult for the recovering addict resulting in their divorce because of his behavior.
McGee received roughly £1.8 million from their high-profile divorce, but was still in debt with many unpaid bills. Despite everything friends and neighbors said that McGee appeared to be doing well, hardly mentioning Lucas and even recently adopting a Labrador puppy.
Sad, sad.

I don't particularly like the comedian or even care but my sympathy goes out to him and to the victim's friends and family. Stay strong. There's a lemonade to be made out of this.

It isn't depression, it was the fact that he was a drug addict. That is how he was still in debt after getting the equivilent of around 3 million dollars.

Suicide is so sad!! First of all, it's so evil to your family. At very least if you don't want to live you have to stay alive for them, SO DEAL WITH IT!
But seriously, there's help for depression these days for fuck sake AND people may do it for love but all it takes it meeting that next person that gets you OVER the other person!! DUH! What a waste.
"Civil partnership" drugs are for stupid peole, a smart person could have used 2 million in a brilliant amazing ay and he just blows it on screwing himself up… no sympathy for him at all

Civil partnership in the UK is marriage in everything but name. All civil partners have exactly the same rights as married couples.
"Drug use was the reason" That's not very surprising, most celebrities -if not all- who die before 50 its because of drug issues, either directly or not.

Terribly tragic. I'm only familiar with Matt because of Little Britain. He's a brilliant and talented comedian (and yes, I watch from the US. Thank you, Netflix!) Suicide is terrible for all those touched by it. I hope that the victim's family, friends and loved ones find peace and a path to healing.
And yes, I do think of him as his ex-husband. When you share your life, it's a marriage because you've made it one - not because a government will or will not allow you to use a title and reap certain benefits. Bob said it best - "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery."
On another note: I'm still unsure why people who have so much hate toward things discussed here choose to spend time engaging in debate here. Last time I checked, the ol' world wide web had a far-reaching expanse.
Substance abuse puts the screws to functional outcomes. Lucas must not blame himself. With addiction, even McGee would not have been himself.

Stupid that people insist on differiencing the marriage term when the rights are the same ("marriage" wasn't use officially because of christians, but widely people still use the term marriage). In Canada we also had a beautiful writer (and blogger) named Nelly Arcan who killed herself (look her up), and I was very surprised to hear this until someone told me she had heavy drug problems and financial problems because of them. Drugs explain so many suicides…
