Just like you predicted "Obsession" would be a flop when it debuted just under the top 10, and it's been on the charts since the early summer, eventually went into the top 10, and knocked Madonna's "Celebration" from the #1 spot on the Dance charts. And it wasn't even that good of a song.
Mariah can't compete with a kids group like Paramore. They are young and have the hard edge sound kids put their money on. She also can't compete with Babs who rarely puts out a CD, so when she does, with her history of superstardom, her album of course is huge. To be #3 in that group is pretty darn great. Go Mimi, Go Mimi, Go Mimi…

I bought the album on Amazon the first day. There are only 2 songs on this record that are good. She should have taken a cue from Whitney on how to record an age-appropriate record. Everyone's losing money on artists. Beyonce can barely go double platinum in the US with her last release. Pink and Lady Gaga have barely sold over a million copies of their last album in the US. Even Madonna's last album failed to go platinum in the US. Look at the charts..the biggest debuts this year were the Black Eyed Peas and Eminem. Whitney's impressive debut was all comeback hype, if nothing else. On the other hand, you got Pearl Jam, a band who's successful at touring and doesn't rely on singles, they debuted at #1 with just above 180K, almost the same exact figures Mariah opened up at #3 with. Look at Mariah in relation to how the rest of the top 10 sold. She sold twice as much as the rest of the bottom half, including Madonna. But no one's buying anything anymore. It sucks to be a music artist these days.

I don't think Island actually gives a shit about Mariah. E=MC2 was actually a fairly decent album, but instead of going with the fan favorites, they released some of the worst songs on there as singles. It didn't help matters much either when Mariah decided she wanted to be Ms. Nick Cannon, and pretty much stopped promoting the album soon after she got married.

Sales have gone so far downhill for every artist this decade. There was only like a 10,000 copy difference between the three albums anyway, and this exceeds the margin of error for soundscan.
At least Mariah, unlike Streisand and Paramore, can still have a top 10 single. And as for the Whitney comparisons, I'm sure Mariah would sell 350,000 in her first week if she didn't release any material for 7 years too. Hell, even E=MC2 outsold I Look to You!

For the record, MUSIC BOX didn't debut at #1 back in '94, and opened up its first week at numbers almost similar to this album, and it has since then sold 32 million copies worldwide. It's funny how she can debut at #3 in the first week, and everyone is already writing off the album as a failure. It's even funnier how the non-fans have been carefully tracking the sales of her album more than her fans have.
She's got the third biggest selling album in America (2nd in Canada) and that is a bad thing? She'll make more $$$ for this album than you will in 20 years. You are such a biased fool. Love Hewitt gets 7.6 million viewers and she sucks, Carey has the 3rd biggest album and she sucks. But if Lady Gag Gag sold one cassette tape out of her trunk, she'd be "amazeballs"
