Tyler Perry Takes To Website To Discuss Childhood Abuse and Molestation
In an open email to fans and the world, the accomplished Tyler Perry opened up about about his own dark past, which included an abusive father and a female neighbor who molested him at the age of 10.
The executive producer of Precious has made no secret about his destructive childhood, but proceeds to elaborate more on it, in order to help those see that from terrible strife can come tremendous success.
He speaks in depth about his father, who was constantly physically abusing him, for minor crimes like stealing cookies or even reading books:
"He got the vacuum cleaner extension cord and trapped me in a room and beat me until the skin was coming off my back. To this day, I don't know what would make a person do something like that to a child."
Nor do we, but it certainly is a horrible image to think about.
As for his tragic experience with molestation, he writes briefly of another encounter with a man at his church when he was a child. Years later, when the man died without a cent to his name, the family asked Tyler to pay for the funeral. He had refused, not now he wishes he hadn't:
"There is something so powerful to me in burying the man that molested me. I would have dug the grave myself."
And after all that, now he is a millionaire! A respected gentleman of the Hollywood industry. It is sad to think about what he has gone through in his life, but it is something to marvel at to know he rose about the pain to create an amazing life for himself.
We guess the point of all this is for young people to see that if he can do it, anyone can.

…many abused children develop a sense of humor in order to cope/survive. Turning adversity to advantage really made this man.Peace.
So tragic but I think we need more celebrities and others to come out and talk about this because it is all too common. Child abuse in my eyes is the worst thing anyone can do. If you need a freaking license to drive I think parents should take a mental health test before they take a baby home!!

I always wondered why Tyler Perry also made such depressing movies about us…it made it seem like all black people had these issues all the freakin time. But since he shared this story, I really feel for him, glad he made something great of himself from that kind of childhood. Seems like he's just getting the issues out there. I don't know if I'll be able to see Precious though, it looks like it will depress me.

people are NOT BORN GAY! they GO gay! its never been proven that people are born gay, gay people are jsut born with a sensitive temperament which if the person is born and brought up under conditions where there is a dominant mother and weak or emotionally/physically absent father, the boy doesn't associate with masculinity and slowly goes gay…but it happens over a couple of yrs so by the time u hit puberty or your 20s u think u were BORN that way since u cant recognise the fact that u weren't!! remember its NEVER BEEN PROVEN that u were born that way, its just easier to belive that because no one wants to face the responsibilty of change which for some is damn near impossible!
I love all of Tyler Perry's movies!!! Go Madea!!! Almost most of his plays are comedy based but along with that are life lessons which he includes. The messages are encouraging and powerful. Anyone who's going thru some tough times right now should watch his plays like "Madea goes to Jail, etc" He seems like a good guy who hasn't forgotten where he came from.
