Same-Sex Marriage Bill Introduced In D.C.!

Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Politik

wenn2175591dc.jpg

We're one step closer!

A bill was introduced on Tuesday on Capitol Hill to allow same-sex marriages in Washington D.C.!

Council member David A. Catania introduced the bill yesterday morning before his fellow council members which stated, "any person . . . may marry any other eligible person regardless of gender."

The bill, which is expected to be voted on before Christmas, is expected to pass without a fight from the House and Senate, because both "have their plates really full" at the moment, says Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton.

Although a couple of Republican reps say they will try and stop the bill from passing, the number of Democrats outnumbers Republicans in the House, which same-sex marriage supporters are hoping will work with their cause.

One step in the right direction!

If the Dems, with a large marjority in the house, can't stop Rep's from trying to get in the way of the DC council then they are truly powerless/worthless.

  14. 14

They deserve rights, but it is NOT a marriage. It should be a civil union… it's the only thing left that is traditional in this country.

  15. 15

rpatz still isn't going to fuck you dude.

  16. 16

    and????

  17. 17

Doesn't it seem odd (obvious) that you have to wait until "their plate is really full" and the attention is diverted elsewhere to get this passed???? You guys LOVE "sneeking in the back door"!! Get over it already**eye roll**

Good for you & your Husband, we are still waiting here in NYC. Can't believe NYC will be next to last to getting a bill of this kind passed. VERY SAD!!!

putting one's ding dong in another man's back side will never be socially acceptable

  22. 22

You'd think Barack the Hoser would support such a thing since he married a woman who looks like Emanuel Lewis.

Re: Vintage7787 – The institution of marriage is going to remain plenty traditional as churches will always have the right to perform marriages for whom they deem appropriate. Marriage is however also a civil institution that allows certain benefits to some couples but not others. Civil Unions are not equal to marriage. I live in MA and gay marriage has existed her for years with no adverse effects on straight marriage or anything else. Almost all of New England has gay marriage. I am proud of this.

Re: piazzasbuttplug – if only that joke was funny

    yall are some corney motherfuckers….

  25. 25

Sorry dude maybe next time. It wont pass.

  26. 26

Baby steps, Bob! One state at a time, huh? I suppose that is good enough. (if it passes, of course.)

  27. 27

pleeeeease pass the fucking bill so Porkez should shut the fuck up!!!!

  28. 28

I don't know why anyone would want to get married. I was hoping that they would instead change the laws in regards to domestic partnerships instead of taxing the hell out of us for buying health insurance for our partners.

  29. 29

    Prayers for equality!

  30. 30

yes, think mario. capitol hill does it for the WHOLE COUNTRY and remember if it was the WHOLE COUNTRY, you know that OBAMA feels it is up to individual states and it would be voted DOWN. DC is a city, the city is voting on that, and it should be sooner because it is the city, and most of the city council supports it. do you even watch the news? might I suggest fox news because they carried the whole story, did not state it was bad, did not say everyone was going to hell or anything like that. Fox just stated the facts.

  31. 31

you can pass all the laws you want it will never make it right in the eyes of God.

  32. 32

i gave up my marriage certificate because not all ppl could be recognized as united.
when they legalize love for all, then I will remarry my partner -we are hetero, BTW

  33. 33

    Re: ap076
    Well said and THANK YOU!!!

  34. 34

The mere idea of same sex marriage is utterly ridiculous. These gays don't want 'equal rights' they want special rights. The fact that time is even wasted on such a ludicrous subject is shameful. A same sex 'marriage' is not a real marriage at all. People of the same sex cannot marry. That's just the way it is, the way it should be and hopefully the way it will stay. ANY other way is not real and will not be respected by anyone with have a working brain cell. WHY must everyone always try to hard to be different. There are too many people out there who all have a CAUSE. I wonder how many actually believe what they are saying, how many go along with this type of thing just to be pc and how many just want to stand for SOMETHING. For God's sake get a life….. a real life….. a NORMAL life.

  35. 35

rename it, and get over the attempt to call your union a "right".

  36. 36

If it's legal in D.C., it should be legal in this entire silly country! D.C. is capitol of the US!
Marriage is only for co-dependents, gay OR straight!

  37. ap076 says – reply to this

    37

Re: seattleLarry – It should not be legal in the entire country as marriage laws have been traditionally left up to the states. DOMA as a federal law should be overturned, but the vast majority of the states have legally passed laws banning marriage for same sex couples. This is something that will take some time but many have predicted as the next generations make up the majority, their relaxed attitude (not everyone) about gay rights will make marriage a possibility in more and more states. We are talking decades here if am sorry to say.

  38. 38

Perez, you're an idiot. DC doesn't have senators (apologies to Ms. Holmes-Norton) they have a council and there is not a single Republican on that council. As a city, DC may allow same sex marriage. But there are plenty of non-Republicans in DC who are VERY MUCH AGAINST THIS. DC and Maryland are both one party places so if it goes up in smoke don't blame the opposition.

  39. 39

    I WANNA TOSS HIS ASS.!!??..

  40. 40

Aww the insecure hetro posters on this blog are foaming at the mouth over this. GO HAVE SOME SEX ….the gay community can't help your relationship being so miserable, lonesome, and f8cked that you need to be fixated on OUR relationships. We couldn't give two sh8tz about hetro relationships and hetro marriages, yet hetros are OBSESSED with everything gay. Is being hetro THAT boring? I imagine so. Mini van, 6 kids, soccer practice, creepy identical houses in the suburbs, same routine every morning. Heck, I'd probably be miserable enough to pay attention to other people's lives too. The attention is flattering, but step aside please, we're trying to plan a LAVISH wedding here.

I don't want this bill to pass I want it to Keep Being Denied. Same sex partners is a ABOMINATION In the eyes of our lord Jesus Christ. A MEN CAN'T LAY WITH A MAN AND ENTER THE GATES OF HEAVEN, A WOMEN CAN'T LIE WITH A WOMEN AND ENTER THE GATES OF HEAVEN. ALL OF YOU POOR CONFUSED PEOPLE NEED TO SEEK CHRIST.

  42. 42

YAY!! i love it!! PROGRESS!!! hope you get your rights perezzie!! and every other couple in LOVE!!

  43. 43

I still don't undertand how can people consider same sex marriage a "special right". I don't see "special right" I see equal rights!!! This is great news!!

  44. 44

Re: Vintage7787 – Maybe we should go back to women not being able to vote and having a king and queen rule us all. Would that be cool? Thats "traditional" right?

  45. 45

Re: Eula – Silly me, I thought it said to accept everyone, love thy neighbor, not to judge others because they are different, and that God accepts everyone!! WTF is your problem?? Why is it when people don't have anywhere else to go, they resort to Biblical arguments!?!?!??!?! Think for yourselves dumb asses!!

Who CARES if they want to get married?? If it doesn't get passed, I'm not surprised, if it does…good for gays that want to be married. More power to you. People are so close-minded and dumb as fuck…preach one part of the Bible and ignore the rest, and blatantly disobey it themselves, then shit on others for something that is different, and something that you "THINK" is wrong! WTF?

  46. 46

ROCK THE FUCK ON! FREEDOM AND EQUALITY I WHAT THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON AND IT BELONGS TO EVERYONE!!!

  47. 47

Great. Amazing- to see this in my lifetime!!!

  49. 49

perezito, this is where words get jumbled. "any person…may marry any other eligable person regardless of gender". Now I'm not sure what's within the "dot dot dot" but those words would allow brothers & sisters of blood relation to marry. Even you can draw the line to moral clarity with that. Another question is, would allowing gays to marry, would that put the church in position for lawsuits for refusing to marry people of the same gender? It makes me wonder, what exactly is "tolerance"? Here's the definition from dictionary.com: a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own; freedom from bigotry.

I think that people who disagree with you are constantly told that they're intolerant…but perhaps the shoe is on the other foot & you just refuse to acknowledge it…You refuse to be tolerant of other people who have a difference of opinion with you. You are so grounded in your beliefs, but refuse to accept that those who disagree are just as infused with their true understandings of what they see right & wrong.

Do you believe there is a moral truth? An actual wrong from right? What gives you the moral clarity to determine what is so? What power? You bash Jesus, God, et al, ad nausium on your sight so you definitely can't rely on them. So what is it? Who is it? You?

If that is so, your opinons are riddled with hypocracy.

    Much love,
    Curreh

  57. 57

Re: Eula – Keep your religion - but don't try to make laws for my family on your religion. We don't make American laws based on religion.

  58. 58

Equality is an American idea and Washington DC of all places should have equality!

  59. 59

Marriage is between a man and woman and is natural that way.
same sex marriage is not natural.
a union; maybe. live and let live but you have to have laws to prevent a non-chaotic society. it's like a free for all do what you want kind of society with no boundaries and that's the decline of society.
people just don't see the writing on the wall.
