Simon Cowell Gives Back!
Filed under: Anglophilia > Simon Cowell > Woof Woof
The meanie Brit judge on American Idol has always had a soft spot for furry friends, but this was extra nice of him.
Exorcist actress Linda Blair has spent the last few years of career actively working as part of her non-profit WorldHeart Foundation, which cares for up to 50 abandoned dogs at a time. She found that her shelter was becoming pretty strapped for cash and that is when Simon Cowell came in to save the day.
He donated $30,000 to ensure that the center could stay open, admitting that it was a no brainer situation when a mutual friend brought the problem to his attention.
He says: "I think what Linda is doing is incredible. Seeing pictures of the dogs makes you realise what a fantastic job she's doing. When we spoke, I was really impressed by her passion and commitment, and offered to help her out financially."
Good for you!
A load of kudos for you, Cowell!

I've never given Simon Cowell a second thought until this post, but this melts my heart and I've just gained a tremendous amount of respect for this individual.
Charity of any kind (especially to beings without a voice) is beautiful.
Simon rocks!!
More rich celebs should open their wallets and help the millions and millions of animals suffering due to humans.
Nicely done, Simon Cowell. Now if only the rest of the celebrity set would follow suit. This is a better to hear about than another celebrity shopping trip.
I have a new respect for him now. Go Simon!
Wow, he does have a heart after all (oh and a $100 million contract)!
Here's hoping that this inspires more animal loving celebs step up to help Linda Blair in this heartfelt mission. Wonderful, Simon.
$30,000? lol He makes that when he shits. Couldn't he give just a little more?
Bravo, Simon! Well done.
why people care so much about dogs and not about children?
I only see people talking about helping freakin DOGS than CHILDREN
Way to go Simon
Re: littledollsland – I knew there'd be a post about his decision to donate HIS money to something he believes in. I hope you feel good, criticizing charity of any kind.
Why don't you get off the computer and start demonstrating your mock compassion?
People's stupidity amazes me, a celebrity is focusing on something other than himself and you can't even acknowledge that.
You, my dear… are a special type of negative idiot.
That's awesome of him
Stay strong & positive! Keep moving forward and everything you want is right around the corner! 46 ms bg
Bravo……….., Simon…….! very good.
Re: BehoovedLady – He's helped alot of people including past Idol'ers. He's a heartie at heart when u least expect it. Not like he's not rich enough to!
If you really want to help an organization that deals with pets, then you should go to www.peanutpetshelter.org
This organization is run by two individuals who currently have 100 dogs. They have turned there home into a pet shelter, for abandoned dogs on the streets of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. There goal is to reduce the stray dog population in that area, a problem that is rampant in mexico.
Further more, this organization is not run by ex-actors who have or have had money in the past, but everyday people who want to help out.
Re: Starlit – Excellent point Starlit. I'm sure he's helped countless people in that industry, but isn't that what he's paid for in the first place?
When someone donates any sum of money to a legitimate cause, I tend to pay attention to that person. I really could care less about his entrepreneurial karaoke show though.
I love this story. Way to come through Simon!
I've always liked Simon, now I LOVE HIM!!!!
its not actually reported that much but Simon Cowell gives loads and loads of money away to charities
Go Linda Blair. Great cause ..
Go Simon .. keep the cash flowing for these animals. You can well afford it.
this story is at least 2 months old!
I have always loved Simon Cowell. When I found out that he was a compassionate friend to animals, then, even more.
#10 littledollsland - this is my argument to all naysayers like you: I volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Soup Kitchens, poor families in my town, and more. Why do folks such as you decry animal help? The National Humane Society posts statistics of children who abuse animals and grow up to commit crimes. And why do believe that animal rescue and child rescue issues are mutually exclusive? People can and do both.
RE: EveS #17 thank you for that information. I will forward it to my hundreds of volunteer friends, both family and animal.
And Kudos to Linda Blair too, who played one of the most awesome film roles EVER!!!!!!
I wonder why many people dislike him just because he speaks harshly to the American Idol's contestants. For me that shows how much he cares about them and wants them to improve for their own goods. And this donation shows that he even helps dogs =)
Sweet and wonderful!
All I can say about Simon is ewwwwwww creepy old man.
Hey, Simon, nice to meet you!
I had no idea you could be so cool!
Kudos to BOTH Simon AND Linda Blair. Each of them merits accolades.
Our wonderful four-footed friends deserve all the help we can give them. I may live on a pension but I always find $$$ for my "pet" agency, the SPCA.
Simon is like me…he likes animals more than people too!
Kudos Simon…You seem like an asshole most of the time but you do use your money for good occasionally.
Re: alexaaa911 – For your sake, I hope you're not over the age of 13. Your posting was that pointless and immature.
Re: littledollsland – There are millions of ways to help children. Hell that's all we do in America is support "pay check" babies. Quickest way to get help for your "chilin'" in this country is to be a freakin' druggie/reporbate…I know of a crack mama going to court and instead of jail time, gets 3600 a month in EXTRA help, plus a new home. She still does drugs..Goes to three or four "Gifts for Christmas Programs", only lets the kid's keep ONE gift, then takes the truck load back to Wally-World for cash refunds, then parties like HELL for a month.
NO, you really don't care for children. You just resent the money not going to you YOU Judas Iscariot! Probably an' f'n dog catcher.
Re: EveS – Great post BUT don't let the Humane Society of the US hear about it. They'll go down to Mexico and bust them for "hoarding". The HSUS is also trying to force chicken farmers out of business (all but one chicken farm is corporate owned) because the HSUS believes it's better to have chickens run around in a nasty warehouse, than lay eggs in a sanitary cage..The end result is that egg protein will double in price, the only cheap protein low-income families can afford. Notice, the HSUS isn't advocating "free range chickens" which I choose from my free will to pay extra for (these actually go outside). My point?. Be careful of advocacy groups (like the HSUS) that only pass control/hassle tax laws and don't actually run any shelters themselves. I applaud Simon for giving to a private group BUT those like Linda Blair's is under attack from HSUS-government sponsored jack-booted thugs everywhere. One last point, some environmental groups opposed poor Africans from buying refrigeration equipment. This form of elitism said it was better for some people to "starve" rather than possibly "harm the atmosphere". Beware these global Illuminati that believe that Earth can only sustain 600 million people in their goal to achieve their vision of a "Pagan Eden".
This is not the first time Simon has given lots of money to charity. I have seen hoim giving away large sums several times on British and American TV. He regularly attends charity events and I really beleive he is one individual who trys to give something back. Do you remember when he gave that woman on Oprah a load of cash. I think it was for medical treatment.
Good man. I'm impressed
