Blame Jay Leno!
We didn't watch it, but Ben McKenzie looked mighty fine in the commercials!
Unfortunately Southland has been canceled by NBC and supposedly Jay Leno is to blame.
We told you how many of the creative types in Hollywood aren't pleased with The Jay Leno Show taking up 5 slots a week of what used to the homes for prime time dramas.
NBC decided Southland was "too dark and gritty" for Friday's 9 p.m. time slot and with Jay in the 10 p.m. slot, they couldn't push it back. So instead they gave it the axe!
Southland producer John Wells, former producer of ER and The West Wing, says of the cancellation:
"I'm disappointed that NBC no longer has the time periods available to support the kind of critically-acclaimed series that was for so many years, a hallmark of their success. We remain extremely proud of Southland and are actively looking for another home for the series."
Maybe it will fare better on a cable network, but for now at NBC it looks like Jay is their prized possession!

First they cancel "Life", good who done it cop show with some corky comedy in it and fast cars( hey I love fast cars), and now they cancel, what I thought, was the most realistic, freshest, brilliantly casted, interesting writing, educational about what big city cops go through in there day to day lives both on the job and off the job!?!?!?!?! Jay Leno is killing scripted drama primetime television. One by one pow…pow…pow. Sure I've watched Jay and I like Jay, but to be honest his show isn't close to being that good for them to be killing off excellent scripted shows that give WORKING ACTORS AND CREWS JOBS! Soon all we'll have on primetime is stupid reality shows and of course……Jay. I'm already getting tired of seeing him in primetime. NBC what are you thinking? And to John Wells please please please do not stop trying to find "Southland" a new home. FOX might bite. Don't give up sir, your show is frickin brilliant. You and the writers and actors and staff that work on "Southland" do not deserve to be fired over……..Jay Leno. NBC = mistake.
Great Show. FX should look at picking it up. it's no shield but I have heard nothing but good things about this show from everyone and i watched every episode so far. Its a great show with a different but great cast of characters. Someone pick this up quick.

I thought it was weird when they put Jey Leno on at 9:00 every night and even weirder that they put Law & Order SVU, a VERY gritty show on at 8:00. Jay Leno just seems to be recycled from his old show and that wasn't that great to begin with. Too bad for the dramas that I used to enjoy. Southland was great.

The first season of Southland was absolutely fantastic. When it gets picked up by another network I'm sure NBC will realise that they've made a huge mistake.

I knew this kind of thing was coming. With all the FCC bullsh!t, NBC can't risk anything "gritty" and "dark" — i.e., realistic and dramatic — at 9 pm ET which is 8 pm and family time CT. CBS learned that the hard way when one of its dramas got fined for content on one of its crime dramas that was ok at 10 pm ET but not 9 pm CT. Fvck Leno — phony unfunny, sleep-inducing blowhard that he is and the asshats at NBC that thought dumping quality programming for cheap Leno was worth it. I hope Southland finds its way to the NBC-owned Bravo line-up! It's compelling, well acted, with great characters — not your typical cop show!
I really enjoyed Southland and was excited it was coming back. New shows don't seem to get a chance. Sad to hear this, If it weren't for The Biggest Loser and Law & Order: SVU, I wouldn't watch anything on NBC. Sucks that all the good shows on this network are not appreciated. Time for a new gig Jay Leno!
I can't stand Jay Leno, I think only old people like him. That's why he moved to an earlier time slot than before. He SUCKED at interviews, guess that's why he gave that part up too.

There's pretty much nothing left on television to watch anymore. NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX… hell even the CW… they cancel every show that is even remotely interesting. I used to watch Everwood, Wonderfalls, Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies & Reaper. Now they're all gone, and it was Southland and Fringe I was looking forward to. So far Southland is now gone, and people are saying because Fringe was stuck in a Grey's timeslot Thurs nights it's suffering massively too. So so sad for non-cable TV these days.

More insanity from the good folks at NBC. Southland - gone; Medium - gone (thank you CBS for picking it up); Earl - gone…Trauma - god-awful, hackneyed crap. Only decent new show is Mercy. I like Jay Leno as person but to hand him the prime spot every day of the week is senseless.
I'm way pissed that NBC has canceled Southland. This show was awesome. Regina King and Ben MacKenzie were magnificent in it. Jay Leno is no longer funny and he is ruining the 10pm slot for them (NBC). Once he is canceled no one is gonna want to come back to them. Shame on them for canceling such a wonderful show.

I think the new Jay leno show is awful. His guests aren’t even that good and the show is nothing now it used to be. I can handle Jay at least once a night! NOT EVERY NIGHT! I am pissed that the shows that I liked got cancelled because of the Jay Leno show. They need to get rid of the Leno show.
