And yes, it's gonna be on TV!

Food Network star Jamie Oliver is heading to America's fattest city to help them clean up their act!

But, the residents of Huntington, West Virginia are not pleased!!

The show, which is scheduled to air on ABC next year, is aimed at getting people to eat healthier and improve their quality of life.

Although, it opens fresh wounds from the Associated Press story that deemed them the country's fattest and unhealthiest city - a label they claim to be unjustified.

"The quick, sexy way to promote the show is, 'We're here to save the fattest town in the world,'" said Doug Sheils, director of marketing and PR for Cabell Huntington Hospital. "That's going to be a label we can't shake for a long time."

But, obesity related illnesses are so common in Huntington, that it is hard to ignore the epidemic!

"All the years of statistics don't strike home as much as the threat of a national TV audience getting this perception about Huntington," said Delegate Don Perdue. "If it's accurate and not positive, that's our fault. If it's inaccurate and negative, that's their fault."

Don't get your plus-sized panties in a twist and enjoy the free food!!!

This guy is getting a little old. Do what you do best, cooking. Doesn't the States already have Dr. Phil to save them?

    9. 9

I live in Huntington and unfortunately, we do have lots of fat people. However, I think education would be a better outreach program than some other overweight guy telling people how to eat. Most everyone just wants to be on TV.
I've seen the filming. The skinniest people are turning out for it, except for when they filmed at the Hot Dog Fest. Anyway, I don't think America is getting an accurate portrayal with this show in relation how obese we really are.
What do I care, though? After college, I won't live there anymore.

    10. 10

First of all, this Director of Marketing & PR is in denial about his city & needs realize that any publicity of this area is good (for what it's worth). Major industry is long since gone. Coal hasn't been the $$ it used to be in how many decades?? Marshall Football ain't gonna make you THAT much money. Maybe he needs to go take his daily lunch break at Tutor's Biscuit World, conveniently located off of basically every interstate exit running through the city, and ponder that thought.

    11. 11

huntington really needs to stop bitchin' about how someone coming to help them lose weight, i went to Marshall for college and after i moved away from there i lost over 45 pounds, people there are lazy and it doesn't help that there is a tudor's biscuit world on almost every interstate exit there. i think its great that someone is coming to help them out, the studio where they are filming it right across from pullman square looks really cool too. people in Huntington WV should be happy that they're getting the help from someone like him!!!!

    12. 12

Guess what huntington, wv… I've never fucking heard of you before!!!!!!!!!! This is the only reason anybody knows you exist. I think the entire state of WV is unnecessary.

Jamie rocks! He does a lot of good stuff, I love his 'Fifteen' projects!!

    14. 14

I used to live in the healthiest city in the US. Then I lived in one of the fattest places on earth for a month, Fort Worth. It's all about the surrounding environment. If you live in a town focused on outdoor activities, where you walk most places you go, and there are hiking trails everywhere, of course you're going to be healthy. If you live in a place where it's impossible to walk anywhere, you're surrounded by fast food and fried food chain restaurants, you'll likely be unhealthy.
Jamie doesn't need to change only their eating habits, he needs to change their lifestyle.

    15. 15

Re: buttcrackcheese – That's a very unnecessary comment. I'm sure the entire state feels the same way about you.

    16. 16

Someone send Perez a copy! PRONTO!

      Re: Serena!!!COLON!!! You Twats

Thankfully I don't know anyone from West Virginia. Everyone seemed really miserable and stupid when I was there. They have nice hills though.

    18. 18

      Re: Serena!!!COLON!!! You Twats

You're right though, all my comments are unnecessary.

    19. 19

Re: buttcrackcheese – Thankfully you don't know anyone from West Virginia?!? You're a miserable person!

    20. 20

He could lose a few pounds himself….

    21. 21

Well they are about to get even angrier because they are the cover story on the NY Time Mag this week

    22. 22

      you buying a copy mario?
you need it most….wish this guy would write a book called " the pot calling the kettle black"
      you'd be on the cover!

    23. 23

Re: buttcrackcheese – I have lived in Huntington all my life. I am 5"5 and weigh 120 lbs, I have all my teeth, and though we do have health issues here, it's not going to help our problem by the rest of the world constantly calling us fat. in real life that causes what? eating disorders and suicide. BTW buttcrackcheese, I DARE YOU TO COME SAY THAT TO MY FACE. are you saying that the only state to succeed from the South in opposition to slavery is unnecessary? Carter G. Woodson, look him up. He started black history month, Huntington roots. Marshall University went from ashes to glory and you are just a hater because you do not have a close knit community like ours! I think you should come down here and kiss H-towns fat ass! 304 bitches!

      Re: QueenBull – word.

    25. 25

all the kids hate jamie for taking away their vending machines in the schools lol

    26. 26

what does that guy mean "the quick, sexy way" to promote the show? whats sexy about helping the fattest city in America lose weight?

LOVE Jamie, tho. totally watching it just to see him.

    27. 27

I was born and raised in southern California (805 woot), and I have been living in Huntington, WV for about 6 months now. Yeah, a lot of people are fat (and yes since living here I have been joining the ranks). But Jamie Oliver needs to find a better way to find money than exploit a small town filled with very kind and very proud people who would love nothing better than to be left alone.

    28. 28

love the comment Queenbull :) 304 bitches!! LET'S GO HERD!!!

Huntington is a beautiful city. Unfortunately it is very spread out, and is not easy to walk from place to place. Their claim that Huntington people don't eat "homemade food" is bullshit! It's sad that West Virginia is such a beautiful state with some of the kindest and friendliest people one could meet, but we only get recognized for the negative things that occur. The survey that Huntington is the fattest state ALSO includes counties in the surrounding states….but they don't really advertise that. I really hope that Jamie Oliver puts a positive spin on his adventures here. He hasn't thus far, and has been talking to local media trashing us left and right. The man is quickly wearing out his welcome. It is appreciated that he is offering help, and criticism. But, on the same note, you don't have to put down those you are trying to help on a national level. Let's hope he wises up!!

buttcrackcheese….you can definitely kiss this girls cute WV country ass!!!!

      29

Well, shouldn't Jamie Oliver lost some weight himself? It seems to me as if he's gotten a little pudgy. So, be careful before tossing stones!

    30. 30

they should donate some of the food to the poorest countries…

    31. 31

I am a WV native myself. I no longer live there, but I can tell you compared to where I live now, Florida, and other states I've lived in, even rural Macon GA, WV does not offer enough facilities to encourage its residents to become active. Its not taught enough in the school system or encouraged by the government. Without those two key factors you're bound to have a state full of obesity.

I go to Huntington High School and I have watched the filming of this show. Though there is a problem with unhealthy lifestyles in Huntington, the majority of our citizens are by no means overweight. I watched Jamie go through our cafeteria and only interview the overweight people. The hundreds of us who are thin were never filmed or interviewed. If he wants to help make us healthier, I am supportive of this show, but if he simply wants to negatively and inaccurately portray us, I do not.

    33. 33

Re: wv10 – I doubt Jamie will only focus on the negative, because he usually does a good job showing positive things on his shows. Maybe I'm wrong, but he seems like a really nice, down to earth guy who actually does care.
If there's an issue with how everyone eats in the community, I think Jamie should be focusing on the skinny population, too, because it's not just overweight people that are unhealthy. Many naturally thin people are more unhealthy than overweight people, simply because they can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound. I have good friends who eat nothing but fried foods and junk and never workout and they weight 30lbs less than me, and I eat healthy and work out nearly everyday.

    34. 34

Well I live in Huntington WV, we exist. We are used to being made fun of. For all of you Marshall students saying you lost weight just because you left here is BS…you know you did nothing but eat at B-Dubs and swill beer…no wonder you were fat! And if your wondering…no I am not overweight nor have I ever been. So the majority of us don't want the world to think we are all fat nasty hillbillies…

    35. 35

glad i live in Beckley. haha.

    36. 36

woo, so many west Virginians, i was in Huntington over the weekend, it's a very busy city with wonderful historic preservation. The people are very friendly and proud, and won't hesitate to retaliate if Jamie portrays them inaccurately.

    37. 37

what happened to him? he used to be cute. he looks horrible.
