Stephen Gately, member of the Irish boy band Boyzone, died while vacationing in Spain this weekend.
Although the cause of Gately's death is publicly unknown, the members of Boyzone have released a statement saying the singer "tragically died."
He was only 33.
So, so sad.
Our thoughts go out to Stephen's family and friends during this difficult time.

My first concert was to see the lads in dublin when i was like 5 i loved them and so did all my cousins and although the reast were great stephens voice was really what made the band he will be sadly missed by all the irish women of all ages well most ages and they only got back together last year

And there I learn some weeks after Stephen’s death at the age of 33.

this is so sad. i was a boyzone fan in the mid-90s and this came as a shock. no, he wasn't the most talented person in the world, but he was clearly a nice guy who was enjoying life. so so sad. RIP.

This is much bigger than Perez is reporting. For one, Stephen was the first boy band member to openly come out and he maintained his popularity. Louis Walsh, Boyzone's manager, is one of the judges on the X Factor and he cancelled his appearance on the X Factor tonight and Simon Cowell paid tribute. Elton John, Stephen Fry, the former Prime Minister of Ireland, and many others have been paying tribute to Stephen all day. All the members of Boyzone have arrived in Spain to help with the arrangements. Ronan Keating was in America and immediately cancelled his plans to fly to Spain and is said to be devastated - they're all like a family. This is a sad tragedy and both PerezDaVi and azz0r can shut their disrespectful mouths!

It matters alot. There are terminally ill people in this world, people starving to death, who have no choice about their circumstances - and then you have others dying because they're filling themselves with drugs for a 'good time'.
Sure, he's someone's son, he has fans and friends - he will be missed and I agree it is a huge waste of a young life. But if this is drug-related he'll get none of my sympathy and I pity the family/friends who loved him and he has left behind.

For all of you speculating, his family released a statement to say it wasn't Drug related, there was no fowl play involved, it was an tragic accident.
Some here are speculating that he may have choked on his own vomit after a night out. He fell asleep on the sofa. Stephen wasn't a "partier" so let that be a lesson to us all who have the odd "mad" night out. This happens more than people think!
