The Simpsons Will Never Forget MJ
Filed under: TV News > Michael Jackson
In the yet-to-be released The Simpsons: An Uncensored, Unauthorized History, the cast and crew reminisces over the oddity of Michael Jackson's appearance on The Simpsons' third season when he voiced a 400-lb mental patient who believed he was MJ.
How credible could "uncensored" and "unauthorized" be???
Anyway, the crew says Jackson requested a rehearsal at his manager's house, which "was unheard of," according to Simpsons writer Wallace Wolodarsky.
"…it was a crazy environment where we were all served food by Sikhs in white robes and turbans," describes Wolodarsky.
Hank Azaria (Moe, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy) also recalls the "freakiness" of their visit:
I remember having to make conversation with Michael Jackson. That had to be one of the freakiest moments of my life . . . he wasn't quite the figure he's become today, but still, I remember even then, staring at his nose, and it was all about, 'Don't Stare at His Nose.'
Ha!
But the cast and crew were highly disappointed MJ didn't sing for the ep, as editor Brian Roberts remembers:
I literally didn't want to look at him. So I get my head buried in the script, and then at one point in the script he sang, Man in the Mirror, and I said, "All right. How many times in your life are you sitting next to Michael Jackson and he's singing Man in the Mirror? I just gotta look."
So I look over to Michael Jackson, and he wasn't singing! He had a sing-along guy next to him who was actually singing for him. I couldn't believe it. I was like, What kinda weird [expletive] is this?
How lame!
We would have been majorly disappointed too!

lmfao wow !
huh - no news about the dead boyzone singer? wow.
It's been a long time since I've listened to it, but I'm pretty sure thats from the third season DVD of the simpsons.
I've got the song on that ep stuck in my head now:
Lisa its your birthday
And God bless you this day
You gave me the gift of a little sister
And I'm proud of you today
Lisa its your birthday
Happy birthday Lisa
Lisa its your birthday
Happy birthday Lisa
I wish you love and goodwill
I wish you PRAISE and joy
I wish you better than your heart desires
And your first kiss from a boy
Lisa its your birthday
Happy birthday Lisa
Lisa its your birthday
Happy birthday Lisa
Yeah!
sounds dull. at least you are abstaining from posting about gaga… we will see how long that will last
Simpsons is lame
Man, I love an eccentric weirdo. Missing MJ already..
wait..so…did he not sing his own songs?
Milli?
I wonder if they ever mention the fact that Michael didnt sing in the episode because he he couldnt due to his recording contact at the time. I think that's why he wasnt credited as well.
On the other hand, when you tell someone to not look at something on another person… it makes it that much harder not to look!
SO THE 'SIMPSONS' CAST AND CREW ARE A BUNCH OF IDIOTS.
WHY IS THIS NEWS?
He wasn't allow to sing due to his contract. They don't seem to be very nice some memories lol. They should have just treated him like everybody else that's what he wanted the most but no they had to be so start struck. Anyways I heard other stories of people meeting him and he was never like that they were surprise because he was so normal but then again they were smart and treated him normally.
Haha, they were trying not to look at him. How awkward.
r u effing serious? 20 yo luke warm examples of Mike's "wierdness". That's all you got huh?
The guy who sang in place for M.J. is Kipp Lennon of the band Venice.
Yup - as a few other posted have noted, he was under contract and that is why he went uncredited in the episode and was not allowed to sing. And he wrote the Bartman song too! MJ LOVED the Simpsons!
Re: ElectraCutieKitty – Exactly and "MJJ" you two are so correct. Michael was not able to sing due to strict conditions w/ his contract that forbid him to lend his "singing" voice to the show. He did have some speaking parts but that is all he was able to do by way of legal contractrual agreements. Michael loved The Simpsons. I'm sure he would have loved to lend his singing voice to the episode. And as for the guy talking crap about him… that is a bunch of hooblah. " I remember having to make conversation with Michael Jackson. That had to be one of the freakiest moments of my life . . . he wasn't quite the figure he's become today," It was only "freaky" to him because he was amazed at the fact that the person he was speaking to could hold a normal conversation. He was already expecting to meet a person who was going to break out into song and start moonwalking but was presently surprised at the fact that Michael was actually human and could hold a conversation. The person the world saw on stage was not the same person who interacted with people off of stage. He did know how to communicate like any other person…
hahahahaha. wow thats crazy. MJ was a lil out there…but i still love him and im still soooo sad :/
WOw that is freaky…
Uh, did you not realize that The Simpsons franchise is a comedy & infused with ironic humor? Hence the name, "…Unauthorized…". It doesn't take a genius to figure that out!!
lol what the hell was sooooooo weird about that
well this was a waste of my life
Re: AlphaBarbie –
fuk u bitch better than family guy
that is wierd.
Re: WHORE1 – how are they idiots?
It sounds like they were treating him like a freak. No wonder he acted weird, how are you supposed to respond to that?
Not sure I believe this entire story
That is the kind of stuff that made MJ MJ!! I miss him more everyday!
**RIP MICHAEL JACKSON**
if they werent going to look at him then id be pretty self conscience to.
i mean if you dont want someone to get plastic surgery just dont try to avoid looking at him it makes it worse.
see if you were a sensitive person and people didnt want to look at you it would hurt you very much, so i cant blame him. cause im the same exact way.
but still i dont see whats weird about looking at his nose.
lots of people do it.
im sure it was a positive experience as well.
michael couldn't sing beacuse of contract problems that's why he voiced a random male.
WTF do they feel good making fun of him
Michael Jackson is DEAD, you would think people would let bygones be bygones for now. Michael Jackson was actually a big Simpsons fan, appeared on the show multiple times using an alias voicing different characters, and even wrote the Bartman. I highly doubt anyone working on that show should complain that the world's most famous entertainer took all that time to work on their show.
i love mj so much
Wow, they're kind of rude about MJ.
Wow! What a great story. It reminds me of the "Prince" pick-up basketball story, as told by Charlie Murphy, and acted out on Dave Chappelle's show. BTW, Charlie Murphy is much funnier than his brother Eddie Murphy. Just sayin'.
uhhh….im confused on why your even mentioning this..yea great gossip but fuck leave the poor guy alone. even when hes dead hes being shit talked about. WE ALL KNOW HE WAS AN AMAZING SINGER..YES A BIT ODD BUT FUCKING GET OVER IT ALREADY!
Re: Apple_BottomBooty – I completely agree with you.
yeah sounds crazy, but he actually wasnt allowed to use sing for the show as it would have gone against his recording contract, thats why they had to use a voice double. He wrote "Lisa its your birthday" and "the bartman" though for the show. still weird his character was a huge mental guy
Wow. The arrogance of these people. It's quite sad they couldn't see beyond the outward appearance and truly try to get to know this man.
