Dancing Takes A Dive In The Ratings

Are people over the phenomenon known as Dancing with the Stars?
Could be according to recent ratings!
Though it's still one of the top shows in prime time, the Monday shows are down 11 percent and the Tuesday results shows are down 17 percent from the Fall 2008 season.
Another cause for the change in viewership could be its competition on other networks. Monday night football notoriously brings in big numbers, especially last week's game with rivals Minnesota Vikings versus the Green Bay Packers. Also new to the time slot in the fall is the usual summer fare of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance.
Mike Darnell, head of alternative programming at Fox, says:
"When you put two dance shows against each other, you're going to have an impact. We're exceptionally pleased. We're dominating the 18-to-49 demographics for that hour. That's all we care about."
And just how much dance can an audience handle each week? Dance pro Jeff Allen makes a great point saying that viewers are most likely more interested in watching actual dancers rather than untrained "celebrities" taking on the dance floor.
But we think the biggest reason for the ratings drop is probably the lackluster cast!

i agree perez! i have been a faithful viewer for years of this show, but this year, there is noone in the cast (other than donny osmond) who i felt really was "star" material.
And aaron carter should go back to being 10 He was cute then
I can't be bothered watching dance "reality" programming. I focus my reality viewing on the critically praised, although poorly rated Amazing Race. By the way a show that has won 7 Emmys for best "non-scripted competition program", every time since the category was created. CBS is kind to keep it on given the ratings.

I love DWS on Monday but Tuesdays resault show is boring and I just watch the last ten minutes to see who is going home.

This stupid show need to get over itself..For one where are the actual celebrities?? Carri Ann takes it soo freaking seriously she ends up sounding like a bitch not realizing some of these people have never danced before, she expects perfection. And worst of all it shouldn't take an hour to show the results.. it should be a half hour results show.. no one cares about the little kids dancing or some singing act, get on with it already!!
a) SOOOOO sick of unscripted "reality" TV (except Survivor.)
b) Julianne Hough not on DWTS this season. Her incredible hotness was the only compelling reason to even consider watching that show.
They put the indicted felon crook politician Tom DeLay on their program and they expect MORE people to watch??? Gimmee a break!
Aaron Carter is a lot wimpier than I thought he would be. And Donnie Osmond is not as obnoxious and irritating as I thought he would be. I like the little snowboarding guy.

Mr. Allen is mistaken. If I want to watch professionals (yawn), I can watch them on PBS. I want to see celebrities mix it up, risk and/or save their careers, etc.

I really don't watch anymore other than to tune in for KO. Once they put Mya on there, I stopped. She has had prof dance training and it is not fair and not fun to watch.
A Bad DWTS cast this season!
They fucked up having Tom "Should be in Jail" DeLay on. Fucking asshole. I would never watch a show that would pay him to be on.
OK Perez you are soo wrong about Aaron Carter! Us Girls Loove him! Most girls I know are only watching because of him and he is a verry good dancer! And he looks gooood!

It should be titled, Dancing with the Wanna Be Stars, or maybe, Dancing with the D-List Stars. This show has absolutely no stars in it nor has it ever had a star.

I think it lost alot of credibility after that French guy Guilles lost the last season- he was the best ever. This one is kinda boring -except for Kelly Osborne, the swimmer Natalie and the snowboarder - and no Julianne and Max is already gone - plus Donny, Aaron and Mya have been dancing for years - that's just not fair - this is the worst season for sure
I have always loved this show, but for some reason this season, not many "stars" are shining yet, and as for Aaron Carter, his dancing actually makes me turn away, just bad dancing!
This is the first year I have lost interest as well…there are so many(who the hell is that) so called stars on this show this time around. When we saw the preview..we were all like..it should be called "Dancing With The Who The Hell Is That?" They need to up the anty with some real celebrities..I mean how hard could it be to find some has beens who want a chance at a career comeback..they just need to make sure it's people we have heard of before. Also..I like kelly osbourne alot..but i laugh when they introduce her as Actress…she should be introduced as reality show star..that is what she is famous for after all.
I'm not Aaron Carter's biggest fan or anything, but seriously Perez what's your issue? He's one of the more bigger names on this season…yes becasue of his brother, but a least most people have heard of him, half the people on this season I haven't even heard of, and you blame Aaron because his name isn't big enough…Well who the hell is this Joanna chick?!? And the snowboarder dude who the hell is he?!?
