Michael's Estate Claims Paul Anka Co-Wrote This Is It! Agree To Give Him Half

After accusations that Michael Jackson's newest release This Is It was taken from a demo given to the pop star in 1983, Paul Anka is getting credit where credit is due.

The executor of Michael's estate, John Branca and the crooner's legal team have come to an agreement - the two co-wrote the song!!!

Oh, really?!

"We acknowledge that Michael and Paul wrote this song together," said Branca.

They were just desperate for Anka to sign off!

"We'll give you whatever you want, whatever it takes we'll do the right thing," John McClain, the second Jackson executor told Anka. And they have! Paul will now be getting 50% of the publishing from This Is It.

Guess there is justice in the world!

At least when there's $$$$$ to be made!!!

    more STEALING from T M Z

Michael must be rolling in his grave knowing that the brothers have injected themselves into singing backup on this track.

  3. 3

    yawn. over it already

Paul Anka is the Bob Dylan of his time…a brilliant songwriter whose many hit songs were recorded & made famous by others. He deserves every penny of the 50% earned by the Jacksons for the song he co-wrote. I'm sure even MJ would give him that. Got 1st day, 1st show for This Is It…love ya, MJ!

  5. 5

There was a rumor years ago that Anka and MJ were lovers.

    AND…?

  7. 7

Lucky him, usually you get screwed out of everything in this cold greedy world.

The Jackson brothers have a lot of nerve putting their voices on this track. MJ wouldn't have allowed it if he were alive. If you really like this song (God knows why, it sucks ass) buy the Safire download. Don't give a cent to the leech Jackson family.

    What's fair is fair.

MJ didn't stole anything. He wasn't even going to release this song, I'm pretty sure he though back then it was all crap, and that's why it ended up being sung by some ”singer” in the 90's. Don't twist the story. Mike has nothing to do with this, first of all, he's dead. This was all work from SONY, they went and controlled effed in their stock the words THIS IS IT, and this came up.

We, fans, knew about the song , we just didn't know that it was the one SAFIRE sang. This girl should enjoy being related to this story…

Re: Brainbug – Don't give a cent to the leech Jackson family.

Brainbug, if Michael's family shouldnt be entitled to profits from his work, who should be? Definitely not AEG. Yes, Joe and Jermaine have been acting pretty shady since MJ died, but if the estate profits, it means his children profit. Think of it this way, The Havenhurst estate in Encino, AKA the Jackson Family home, Michael held the mortgage. He willingly supported his family for years.

Before the This Is It tour was thrown together, Michael flirted with the idea of a Jackson family reunion tour. I dont think he would have objected to his brothers harmonizing in the background. He would have objected to them having leads in the song.

Besides, the Safire version sucks ass.

    Re: fridu_reyk

You're damn right! You can tell from the recording that it was hardly a finished track. His vocals echo like he was running a demo, you can hear a difference in the production values on the backing music and the harmonies, vs Michael's lead.

Although the song is rather sweet, MJ fans know that Michael wouldnt have released this if he had some say in it. It would have been a bit more polished to get his approval.

I heard one of MJ's new songs on the radio yesterday afternoon. It sucked so bad! I couldn't believe how mediocre/horrible it sounded - even the DJ's were at a loss for words.

Re: sweetpeax – Exactly 100% right. Good post.

Re: ElectraCutieKitty – His kids and Paul Anka should receive the profits (once all of his massive debt is paid off). His brothers "lent" their voices to the tune so they, too, could reap some profits from it. They are a bunch of broke-ass leeches. They have squandered their money and will do anything to become wealthy again. Doesn't Tito work as a shelver at a grocery store for God sakes? Enough said. If MJ wanted them on this record he would've hired them in the first place. Safire's version does suck ass, but I'd rather she get $1 than the Jackson brothers.

Re: bongo – …I never heard that. Maybe it inspired Anka to write "Having My Baby."

  16. 16

    class acts, i'd say.
the fact that michael's estate is willing to give paul anka his share, and the fact that anka only wanted half (which is exactly what he deserves) says a lot for both parties involved.
perhaps there IS hope for hollywood.

Re: Brainbug – I get what you're saying, but it's my understanding that "the estate" is Katherine and the three kids. The estate is the named beneficiaries in the last will.

That's not to say that Katherine wouldnt support her other children with the funds, but it's not up to us how she decides to spend her part of the inheritance.

BTW, it was Marlon who was working at the grocery store. Tito plays in a blues band, and manages his three son's singing career.

Re: ElectraCutieKitty – Gotcha! Well if it goes to Mom and the kids then I'm happy with that. :-)

Re: karencarpenter – Or the other song "Rub the little children where it counts"

  21. 21

perez are you kidding me, half, he only cowrote 1!!!! get it 1 of those songs and nothing to do with the concerts. so justice where justice is due, really. i think they are being robbed by an opportunist who waited till the song was released to profit . give me a break with this mj hater crap

Paul Ankas wife, Anna Anka is one of the most hated persons in Sweden. She is calling Paul´s fans for rednecks.. Check it out on youtube!

Branca is a straight up BITCH !

  24. 24

He should get 50% of the writing and 50% of the publishing.

Re: bongo – Bongo-head has forgotten to take his psycho-medication again. Why did they let you out of the mental health facility at all? Or might you personally have been infatuated with MJ? Get over it, MJ was terribly shy, BUT AS STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW.

  26. 26

Shouldn't Paul Anka then give MJ's estate half of the royalties he (Anka) earned when Safire recorded the song?

Yeah, there is also a rumor going around about how much you know about Michael but see how false rumors can be at times?? You seem to have a love affair with MJ post though…

Good Paul got his money, but that money should have come from SONY.
