MJ Earns A Posthumous Nod From AMAs

We have our money on him winning.
Michael Jackson has been nominated for five American Music Awards this year, including artist of the year.
The King of Pop will battle it out for the honor with Lady Gaga, Eminem, Kings of Leon and Taylor Swift. However, the winners of each category are determined by fans through online voting, so you have to figure that Jackson fans will be going out in droves to make sure he wins.
Not that he doesn't deserve it, of course. Would be nice if any of the others stood a chance!

The AMAs have always been a poor man's Grammys or more accurately a People's Choice Award for music. They technically have never had a strict released by date or any cutoff date of any sort, so Michael is deserving of the nominations. This even though it is for a 2003 release and a greatest hits package (from which many of the songs are already multiple award winners). It is the best selling "album" of 2009 and for an awards show that is based on sales and radio play (rather than peer critical opinion like the Grammys) so this is appropriate. I do think this stacks the deck against 20009 artists, but those are the breaks. This won't happen at the Grammys.
It wouldn't surprise me if he won all five nominations.

Funny Michael Jackson memory, remember when Britney was presenting him a Birthday presentation and she referred to Michael as her artist of the Millenium but a confused Micheal though he was being awarded the artist of the Millenium (?spell check says incorrect spelling but other sources say correct, sorry). I just thought it was funny. Is he the artist of the Millenium? There is a credible argument for that but I prefer to think of Mozart as the artist of the Millenium.

In truth, he's got more talent than any of the artist nominated. He is one of the biggest selling artist of the year, so, technically he does have a right to be nominated. I wouldn't be surprised if he won some of not all of the awards, since he probably has the biggest fan base in the world. Sucks for the other artist!

Actually that isn't that funny because obviously you weren't aware of the fact that Michael was told that he was being presented an "Artist of the Millenium" Award. He got so many awards so being told that he was going to receive such an award wouldn't have been a crazy thing to believe…..

This is so corny! MJ was unstoppable many years ago but has not been musically relevant for years. Now, because he's gone, he deserves to be nominated for awards??? For what music? Please, this album came out HOW many years ago and was completely ignored by the US (and the AMA's). Plus, it's a greatest hits collection, so it shouldn't even be considered. This is a pathetic attempt to get people to watch this awful show, because the ratings are so bad. No one cares about this stupid award and nominating a dead guy for an album that shouldn't even be considered is ridiculous.

Michael earned a Pop artist of the MILLENIUM award in 2002 (Bambi Awards). And Britney Spears did not present him with that one BTW. Artist of the CENTURY award (AMA's in 2002) LEGEND award in 2006 (MTV Japan) Not to mention the countless DECADE awards, and many many more. Michael was so successful that numerous awards had to be "invented" for him.

Those drugs prove he was a drug addict. The Doctor was using in 2 cases meds that should only have been used in a hospital or clinic. Michael was not sleeping he was anesthetized. Certainly the doctor should be punished by jail time but MJ is not without some responsibility for what was going into his body.

Yes, a statement was released saying that, that was the award he thought he was receiving. No, he was not being presented with that award at the time. Yes, it was a misunderstanding and Yes, he has been awarded an Artist of the Millenium award before so what is your point? You said you moved on from this non-issue regarding MTV presenting him w/ this Millenium award and you downplay the same exact award because it came from outside of the United States?? Michael knew about the kind of prescription drugs that he used for this problem from doctors like Murray. He didn't walk into the hospital himself and request Propofol etc. When someone suffers from insomnia you don't say as a doctor "Hey I got some stuff that will work" when you know that, that stuff is not to be used outside of a hospital setting. I'm not saying that Murray introduced him to such meds. but I am saying that along the line a doctor or 2 did introduce Michael to such alternatives and it worked, so therefore he asked for what helped with his insomnia. Drug addicts don't go enlisting the help of doctors to administer drugs to them for a high because they can easilly do that themselves. But desperate people like Michael will enlist the help of a doctor when trying to get some rest. Though the meds. he was taking was not safe (but then again what meds are safe?), he tried to be as safe as possible by having a doctor around to administer it.

At time of death wether given by a doctor or not he was on highly addictive drugs and as he could not function/"sleep" without them he was therefore an addict. I can keep this going longer than you. So you, Dr. Murray, and Michael were all in that room together on June 25th then I see… Michael admitted to having an addiction to pills years ago and also admitted to getting treatment for that past addiction. Michael at the time of his death did not have an addiction. He had a dependency; he was dependent on the meds. that was administered to him by Dr. Murray for sleep. You can depend on something without having an addiction. People that suffer from joint problems who use legal marijuana have a dependence on marijuana to relieve their pain, that in no way puts them in a class of an addict. Michael had absolutely NO meds. in his system accept those that was given to him from that morning and the night before from when he initially tried to get sleep.

The nurse who came out talking about him asking her for Propfol even attested to the fact that she ran test on Michael beforehand and he absolutely nothing in his system. He was healthy and didn't test positive for any meds. An addict's test would have come back negative. Michael had a dependence and enlisted the help of someone to help with his problem (insomnia) and that person (Murray) killed MJ and that's why it's considered a homicide vs. suicide.
