The song is a sweet, simple little ditty and the video is kinda the antithesis to that, though. It looks big and expensive, kinda like a Mariah Carey vid - all glam and no substance!
Why so many beauty shots? You're pretty and all, John, but you don't need to be blown out and overexposed!

It's feels relaxing/soothing to me. It's a good change from all the yelling and screaming that a lot of other musicians do.
oh and i love the song and the video! if the song was simple sounding and the video was simple, then it would be boring. the way they contrast is beautiful.
Musically, John Mayer is decent. The video–meh. It's not the worst. It's not the best either. As a person, I really can't stand the guy. I'd rather listen to him than see him. Self-absorbed pretty boys don't do much for me.
What's with the hate? John Mayer and Mariah Carey are two of the most talented artists in the business. This and H.A.T.E.U. are my favorite songs at the moment. You're just bitter because she won't give you the time of day and he's not gay.

I'm a huge JM fan… however, the problem that I have, as a fan for many years, is it's reference to pot. I know that's not what the song is about. It's about not conforming to what people think… and doing what makes "you" happy, but he could have filled that lyric with something else more "shocking".
I also think he needs to be careful with his image. He knows he has this reputation for a ladies killer. As a fan, I would think he should try to give off the image that he's more down to earth. Not jumping in a swimming pool with girls in their undies. Come on John! You're a better musician than this! Don't let the fame game get you!

To begin with, the melody and John's voice is lovely as usual, but the lyrics seem to indicate that he's grown a bit tired and blasé about the life that surrounds him, after all, like in the video, it's not like he's lacking company or things to do.. but does it have any substance?
So Perez, you might be right on the glossyness of the video, but I interpret it as john showing off a cynical side, wanting to free himself and in the process, finding something that actually means something -because nothing seems to right now.
No need to throw punches at your secret crush, Perez, we all know u love him!

I think this has to be one of the first times I liked any music you put up, Perez. The song is pretty simple, but I wouldn't call it a "stoner" song– just because he sings about being stoned doesn't make it about potheads. It's about freedom, personal choice… and the party lifestyle. A little over-hyped with the video, though I like it, and I like the contrast between the 60s-folk inspiration and the gritty, modern music video… which might allude to a theme of Mayer's song (old roots, new media? just a guess)
What happened to John Mayer. I was so in love with him in college. Back in the day when he would do small venues and outdoor concerts. He use to do it for the love of music. Coltrain, Vauhan, the sounds of the greats he use to put out but now it's a bunch of shit. Honestly who rights a ballad about getting stoned? Oh that right Douch Bags do. Anyway this guy turns me into MUSH I am a PUDDLE when I look at him, hear him… I don't know how much of the "douce" rumours are true, but from where I sit, he has one of the most soulful voices I've heard, and I love that I can recognize his guitar playing within 5 seconds of a song.
I ADORE John Mayer - and I've missed every concert he's had here in Toronto, despite my best efforts.
