Stephen Gately May Have Died From Sudden Adult Death Syndrome

Further information has been revealed in the tragic death of Boyzone member Stephen Gately. The singer's lungs quickly filled with fluid and doctors say that in most cases this is related to heart failure and could have potentially been Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).
UK cardiologist Dr. Sanjay Sharma explains:
“In young people like Stephen, under 35, the vast majority of cases are caused by either hereditary diseases affecting the heart muscle itself or an electrical fault of the heart…I would say it was an electrical fault, when the heart goes into a fatally fast rhythm, around 300 beats a minute. That would only need to happen for a couple of minutes to result in death. A medic would have had to have got to him within minutes. Often in these cases a first symptom of the condition is death, however he may have suffered palpitations and or blackouts.”
90 percent of SADS cases are men and 12 people under 35 die from the condition each week!
Toxicology reports aren't expected for another few weeks, but the autopsy doesn't suggest Gately's death was caused by alcohol or drugs nor foul play of any kind.
Stephen's grieving mother, Margaret Gately, suspects her son passed from a hereditary heart condition as his father's side of the family has been affected by heart disease in the past.
The remaining members of Boyzone plan to accompany Gately's body by private jet on its return to Dublin from Majorca later this week. His funeral is expected to take place on Sunday.

My 6year old died of SADS. Read more about it. This happens all the time. It is so very sad.
Wait a minute! You forgoy yo mention his partner was in the bedroom with ANOTHER MAN!!!! And, the OTHER MAN is the one who got up and found this one dead. The OTHER MAN was some no name guy they picked up in a bar that night and took home.
Gately was found late in the morning. Articles in the UK are writing this poor young fellow died tragically, alone, while his partner was dinking another guy in their bedroom. Sounds like Gately was too drunk for a threesome and they ditched him for a twosome one night stand.
Come one Perez, just cause it's a gay story does not mean you can leave out details. Poor reporting and further proves you have a gay agenda and do not post all the facts.
Call me ignorant I guess, and I am not disputing the whole cause of death thing but - I have never heard of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome…I am not saying it doesn't exist but, I have heard of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) but never death by SADS. I guess that is just a generalized way of saying he died naturally in his sleep but there isn't an exact diagnosis for it because the cause is so vague…crazy as hell. Poor guy and his poor husband.

I had two babies pass away from SIDS, never heard of it in adults, but my heart goes out to the family. I hope they may fine peace some day, I'm still trying.

It's Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome not Sudden Adult…
My 29 year old nephew died from that. he was young, active, fit and collapsed one day. It has to do with a heart irregularity. It's very sad as your loved one is there one day and gone the next…you have no time to say goodbye.
People, show some f&%&^% empathy! My brother died of the same "condition" (same age) and it is a very tragic thing. This could happen to anyone and the worst part is that there are no signals that can predict or avoid this condition/outcome. A person simply pass-out because their hearts just stopped beating. Very sad. I hope his family & friends find some closure.

SADS stands for Sudden ARRYTHMIA Death, NOT Sudden Adult death! Many people who die from this have no warning before the first episode, but some may have had syncope, or fainting spells before.
He had a heart attack and died. And.? No more tragic or sad than anyone else's death before old age sets in. Who was he = Outside his Family and Friends that is…???
He is not the first person under 40 to die like that.Kids as young as 8 have dropped dead with heart attacks out of nowhere.

I believe the more accurate terminology for "Sudden Adult Syndrome" would be congenital heart disease

This is then called Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome. In the past it has also been called Sudden Adult Death Syndrome or Sudden Death Syndrome but, because it affects children too, the term Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome is now used. It is thought that cot death (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS) may be partly due to the same causes responsible for SADS.

When they examine his heart they may find that he had cardiomyopathy. This is a complex condition that can be fairly mild and amenable to treatment or it can turn the heart tough and sinewy, enlarging it and making it difficult for it to pump blood. The latter condition is currently impossible to treat or operate on and the only cure would be a heart transplant. It does kill a lot of young, otherwise healthy people.

i lost my cousin to SADS four years ago, when he was 26. my thoughts are with stephen's family, because i understand the shock that comes with a death that most of the time just can't be explained or prevented. some people here need to learn to show more respect. regardless of his life choices, who he was and what he contributed to society, the long and short of it is that he died suddenly and now there is a man without a husband, 2 parents without a son and many many people without a friend. no he wasn't exactly MJ, but perhaps you people can get over your arrogance and realise that Boyzone have had many fans over the last 15 years. Just because you don't know who they are or aren't a fan doesn't make Stephen a nobody. Have some respect.

Argh!! if you were interested in the truth you would know that the Gately’s solicitor has since given information to refute the Bulgarian mans information. The statement he gave to the police, and not the Sun/News of the World/Mirror/Daily Mail version, is that he was in the spare room. the trash tabloid papers chose to ignore the fact that the guy does not have fluent
English and twisted his words (no surprise there) to sell their trash papers and upset family, friends and fans.
The funeral is Saturday, not Sunday.
Slutstick – SADS is now a know syndrome and unfortunately way too many people are dying from it. A couple of seconds googling that would show you this, I unfortunately know of two people who have died from this and a couple of sports personalities in Ireland have died from it also.

I saw you tube with Stephen signing autographs a few days ago. He looked perfectly healthy and well. I blame that husband of his. Spending the night with a one night stand while he was in the other room dying - its a disgrace.

If an older relative suffers from heart problems, it is a good idea to get the family tested in the hope that you may find any heart problems before something like this happens!
