Miss California Pageant Is Done With Swimsuits, Among Other Things!

It's probably the only state that actually matters how you look in a swimsuit, but the Miss California Organization doesn't care.
In an effort to modernize a widely considered barbaric transition, officials for the Miss California Organization have decided to do away with the swimsuit portion of the contest, as well as lose the sashes, and the biggest change yet, crown TWO winners.
Though the latter has yet to be clarified for the public, Keith Lewis, executive director of the organization, explained the decision to change the dynamics of the pageant:
“This year's event will be bigger and reflect the progressive attitudes of the contestants as well as our forward- looking state. It will change the essence of Miss California USA from a bathing suit beauty contest to the style of a runway show during fashion week.”
The final 10 contestants to compete this year will wear what was described as "individualized styles" created by designer Tony Bowls.
We don't know what that means, but it sounds promising.

Stupid. Probably the final nail in the coffin for pageants. Evening gown/talent/question sections of beauty pageants are just red herrings to take the focus off the primary attraction which is the bikini portion of the events. Take away the prime attraction, you've got nothing. The loss is no real loss. So long.

AND - NO SASHES?? - how will the viewing public be able to root for their hometown fave? Usually we don't even know who is who until we the SASHES! The sashes give the whole ensemble some class…

Awesome, now the pageant can start to really be a role-model finding event! Okay, maybe not, but we're getting there!
I'm confused as to how Miss California USA can change its parameters without the entire Miss Universe organization also changing those same parameters. Miss California USA is a small sub-section of the Trump owned organization and if one pageant's rules changes, they must all change.
Also, most pageants did away with the swimsuit competition several years ago and due to a public outcry, brought it back. Pageants without swimsuits are not pageants at all. Historically, all pageants started out purely as swimsuit competitions and by removing that aspect, you are ignoring the long-standing history and traditions of an institution.
Well … there went the last 4 people that actually watched this shit! (They only still tuned in for the bathing suits because they couldn't afford cable porn.)

as an avid pageant contestant, i feel that this is a stupid decision by the the California USA system. Bathing suit is part of the tradition of Miss USA! I hate that they are trying to make pageants more "runway like" because they are not the same thing!!!
