Balloon Boy Incident A Hoax? Inconceivable Says The Sheriff
So much for the criminal investigation!
The Fort Collins, Colorado sheriff's department commented this afternoon that any rumors floating around about the Balloon Boy incident being a publicity stunt have been deemed completely false. As far as they are concerned, this was considered a "real event" and was in no way a hoax.
The police re-interviewed Falcon Heene's parents and from what they have gathered from the family, the sheriff says it is "inconceivable" that the family lied in order to gain media attention. Sheriff Jim Alderden deemed the couple "honest" from their reactions, emotions and body language. He also suggested that Falcon is a "hyperactive boy" who was likely "frightened because he was responsible for un-tethering the balloon."
That still doesn't explain why he felt like he was doing it "for the show"! Or how a "hyperactive" kid was able to stay still for four hours!

No way was this not a hoax. That kid specifically made the comment about it being 'for a show' when his father asked him why he did not answer when they called for him. They can spin this any way they want to, but it does not make sense otherwise. I hope that they are caught and held responsible for paying the cost of the search.
I watched this family on Wife Swap and they are nuts. Who know if this was a hoax or not. I hope that someone would not be as sick as that and have their child lie as some sort of weird way to get noticed. On the show, he was all about letting his kids just roam free and explore. He didnt seem to be too concerned about their safety. Maybe he will keep a closer eye on them now. While accidents do happen, even with the best protection, its still something that we should all "try" to avoid.
Ughh, they have to be blind or fucking stupid. Something is definitely not right and if the police cannot come to the same conclusion that most everyone else has, then they should be investigated themselves.
A 6 year old, hyperactive or not can easily stay still long enough in a box to fall asleep which he said he did. Secondly, the child said 'doing it for the show" He did not say "We did a hoax for the show" or we did the "balloon release for a the show" but doing THIS. This for a 6 year old could be exactly what he was doing…which was being on a show. So when he kept being questioned he might have meant I though we were coming here for the show and not that he was going there to answer a bunch of questions.
To a 6 year old a bunch of questions by adults IS being in trouble.

But you can't put a spin on the video that clearly shows The Balloon being released with the Kid nowhere near it or any possible place where he could have ride on it. Is it really that hard to believe there are loony people out there looking for attention and making up such an absurd story, like "My 6 yr old flew away on a balloon that can barely lift a pencil"?

I think the little boy got confused and said "for the show" meaning he was there with his parents for the CNN show that was going on. Either that or he said it just to send his dad over the edge. H AHA HA HAHA HAH

how the $%#k did the Heene get all that helium…and what exactly was he going to do with that balloon?? I mean he could have caused some damage with that thing…I think he did not want to be liable for sending that thing loose. Why wasn't a thorough search performed? The video the eldest son had was showing definitively that it was the dad untethering this contraption and the mom was looking on. It looked like she did let go of something but the video is kind of jumpy so it is hard to say.

are you clueless to the news? no one is harping on the six year old. we are all poking fun at the mainac dad. the boy basically clairfied it was "for a show" right there it shows he was not in the balloon. the parents were awkward and not saying much during the interview and the video? that thing could not hold the boy and somehow manage to end up in attic? it's not possible. the boy was in the attic the whole time. this thing is a stupid matter, a waste of the police's time, and should just be taken care of now. HE DID NOT GO INTO THE BALLOON. it's as simple as that.

The father ( if you can call him that ) the same one who says its ok for 6 year olds to say FUCK and SHIT went to TLC to sell a show. PASS. He was desperate to be in the public eye and this did it. First he said the KIDS let the balloon go then the tape showed he and his hag wife let it go. TOO many lies and this family BLOWS. TAKE THE KIDS AWAY

U r so right. 6 year-olds do not stay put for that long. I thought their body lang on LK showed suspicion. The oldest son kept looking down when asked a question and dad got very defensive when asked about "we did it for she show" question.
I guess we should be relieved that the douchetastic dad did not actually put the kid in the balloon and send it off. But yes it is probably a lame attempt at attention grabbing the guy has been trying to get a show for years and always acts like a mental reject for the cameras.
Maybe the investigative cops where the same mental giants that worked the Jonbenet Ramsey case.
Okay there are just too many things that make this look like a hoax. The family has released the video of the thing taking off, and they LET IT GO. The boy didn't untether it. The mother let go of the ropes and it flew away. Second, the dad said there was a basket attached, and they boy could be inside. The video of the take-off clearly showed that there was NO basket. Then you factor in the kid saying they did it for a show, and there you have it. The dad was trying to come up with some publicity so they could have their own reality show.

Why is the media reporting that the balloon was "accidentally" untethered by mom and that THEN the boys said Falcon might be in there (you can see it in the video circulating where Richard Heene swears and kick something).
The explanation Richard Heene gave for why Falcon answered "It was for the show" or whatever it was exactly just doesn't make ANY Sense at all.
I think the police are bluffing and making it so they are on the family's side before the interview..or at least that's my hope. Anyone sitting at home can clearly see it was a hoax with all the facts coming to light!
The story just keeps changing and changing! I'm sure the police are going to admit they screwed up when they didn't search the attic either! (UNACCEPTABLE!)

Throwing this out there…did that ridiculous balloon look like it could lift off the ground with a 6 year old child in it? It looks like a flimsy piece of mylar that probably couldn't life an empty basket, never mind a child. Why would a man who is a "scientist", who built this thing think that it could take off with a child in it? UNLESS he knew that wasn't possible and this is all one big lie so he could get another 15 minutes of fame. The parents are freaks and someone should be investigating him. I think the Feds may want to look into this. If he can send some contraption up into the air (close to NORAD, military bases and air force academy), who's to say someone else with worse intentions couldn't do it.

"Doing it for the show" does NOT necessarily mean planned for their reality show.. As soon as the kid was found, he started doing interviews for multiple other news "Shows" - and that's easily what he could have meant.. Seriously, how can you take a 6-year-old at his word and try and tell him what he meant.. Maybe his family told him that they were doing an interview FOR A SHOW - AKA CNN, and when they started asking him questions that he'd already been asked, he was like HUH? Who the hell knows what he actually meant, but there is definitely no conclusive evidence of him lying - and whatever evidence there IS points in the other direction..
I think the comment " doing for the show" is more than clear, especially answered to the question why he didnt come our although he heared his parents. Judging from their body language and behavior on TV, it was a lie and the sherriff is a fucking idiot, too. Lets hope, these jerks had shock and embarrassment enough to hide for the next years. I really dont want to see them in a reality show, please let the media people be smarter than the cops.

No one has said this — that perhaps the balloon "accidentally" getting loose was a hoax to get attention, but NOT the part about the kid being inside of it, and perhaps that's what the kid was referring to about it being "for the show". and perhaps the kid … on his own… hid as some kind of hoax/game but i'm pretty sure the parents weren't behind that part of it simply because the mom's hysteria about her son seemed totally real… i really doubt she could be that good of an actress to be faking that. I do think the husband came off as creepy and secretive in TV interview — he was looking down the whole time. And the kid barfing on TV.. maybe HE has something he's hiding! i don't think the kid's comments, discomfort and barfing are all "coincidental".
on second thought maybe the mom is that good of an actress.. and they just want to be the next Gosselins. Any kind of press = $$ whether it be good or bad. beats having a day job!
