The parents of Balloon Boy are screwed!
The Larimer County sheriff is planning on filing misdemeanor charges against both Richard and Mayumi Heene for filing a false report with the police!
"We were looking at a Class 3 misdemeanor, which hardly seems serious enough given the circumstances," said Sheriff Jim Alderden during a news conference on Saturday night.
He continued, "We are talking to the district attorney and federal officials to see if perhaps there aren't additional federal charges that are appropriate in this circumstance."
A search warrant was issued for the Heene's Larimer County home on Saturday night, where officers seized a number of boxes and a computer from the home.

They definitely deserve to be punished, though I don't know if jail is appropriate considering that they have young children and no-one was actually harmed by their actions except monetarily. House arrest, yes. Probation and community service, yes. Hopefully the punishment will fit the crime and will also take the kids into consideration. I know these are not ideal parents, but they aren't directly abusive, and it would be less traumatic on the kids to remain with them than to go into foster care.

From the latest pictures, it looks like the dad realized how stupid his haircut was, too. Thankfully, he buzzed his head. As for jail time… yeah, the dad definitely needs to be in jail. It wouldn't surprise me if we found out that he's physically abusive to his family, especially after the way he treated the guest "wife" on Wife Swap.

Keep in mind that child services is involved now. Also, apparently the father has a bad temper. So bad that last night she was urged, for a long time, to take the children and go to a safe house. She refused. I think there is more that we aren't hearing if they are urging them to a safe house. I hope they really look into this matter and talk to friends and co workers regarding the kids. Maybe they do need to be taken away, or the father ordered to stay away from them.

normally i would say that a non jail sentence would be better for the kids, but after watching the wife swap episode i think these parents need to be away from there kids. the kids swear, there not allowed to have any other interests otehr than science (they tried one tapdancing and the parents were shocked he had another interest), the food there served up is terrible, and here the parents are using the kids for there own fame. i hope they have a family member who can take them because these kids need to loose there parents.

How Balloon Man could have done a successful hoax: he should have had his wife take Falcon on a 7 hour outing and pretend not to know where the kid is, when he releases the baloon and pretends to believe the kid is "in the baloon" that way, the kid is not in the know about the hoax, to be able to talk about it. Adults have a hard enough time trying to lie - kids are not good liars.
