The parents of Balloon Boy are screwed!
The Larimer County sheriff is planning on filing misdemeanor charges against both Richard and Mayumi Heene for filing a false report with the police!
"We were looking at a Class 3 misdemeanor, which hardly seems serious enough given the circumstances," said Sheriff Jim Alderden during a news conference on Saturday night.
He continued, "We are talking to the district attorney and federal officials to see if perhaps there aren't additional federal charges that are appropriate in this circumstance."
A search warrant was issued for the Heene's Larimer County home on Saturday night, where officers seized a number of boxes and a computer from the home.

Update: The Larimer County sheriff has officially declared the Balloon Boy incident a hoax!
In a press conference held Sunday morning, Sheriff Jim Alderden said the publicity stunt was a "planned event for two weeks," and if found guilty, the Heenes could serve up to six years in prison!

I live in Colorado (very close to where this happened) and I think this hoax is awful.
I was one of the few on this family's side when people began questioning the incident.

Good for Richard Heene! He wanted publicity and he got publicity. God bless his little son's heart for being so honest. Also, I hope while they took other stuff they took the Ipecac that they surely gave to those kids for the tv interviews.

The police are filing charges higher than misdemeanors, which could mean 1-2 years jail time for parents.

yes, the balloon came down safely - but it could have been in the middle of traffic. Police & Recuse tied up for hours instead of being available to other emergencies. etc., etc.

I do truly feel that TLC and kHATE pimping her kids out was the start of this type of bid for big dollars/fame by parents (and others). Let's all just stop watching, and it will no longer be profitable for the money whores at TLC to continue this.

Good…I have 5 kids and would never make up a story about them being sick/or in danger.
It is disgusting, how can they do that to a child? the interview where he was throwing up on tv and the parents just carried on made me sick to my stomach.
I hope they have to pay for the rescue services time.

A friend of mine just heard and then told me that Mayumi is a Japanese prostitute and that the three boys are actually her johns and that Richard is the family pimp. She said she read it in "The Enquirer." They're usually spot on, right?
