Gerard Butler Goes Shakespearean!
Filed under: Film Flickers > Gerard Butler
Since a sting of terrible romantic comedies, Gerard Butler needs to prove that he can do something other than eff his costars.
The fledgeling actor has decided to tackle some of the most difficult work of his career - Shakespeare.
Butler will attempt to hold his own alongside powerhouses William Hurt, Vanessa Redgrave and Ralph Fiennes in William Shakespeare's Coriolanus.
The "passion project" will be directed by Fiennes, who will also occupy the lead role.
It has not been confirmed what role Gerard will potray in the film adaptation, but we have our money on Coriolanus' sworn enemy, Tullus Aufidius.
At least it's something a little more 300, a little less The Ugly Truth!

I see him more as Hamlet but whatever….zzzzzzzzzzz
"Since a sting of terrible romantic comedies"
"The fledgeling actor"
"what role Gerard will potray"
That's some quality posting right there, Tubby McFistmyass. I can only assume that you're letting your flipper-baby sister do the "writing" today while you have some leisure time with your favorite Vietnamese rent boy.
☼k…hez fine…

WHERE'S THE NEWS ABOUT ASSHOLE SIMPSON BEING FIRED FROM "MELROSE PLACE" ALREADY?
Re: SheriMoonFireFly – hee-hee… only if it were a p☼rn☼
Re: Brainbug – It's on page 3 hun midway down…I know ! SHOCKING that he has it up already eh…
I think this dude is such a douche bag
Who gives a shit. Hes boring
Film aficionados hold onto your 'Perez's Guide To Great Films'. Perez will be starring in a sex tape titled Cornholeanus. It has not been confirmed what role the fat bastard will potray in the film adaptation, but we have our money on Cornholeanus' sworn enemy, Kidius Fidillerus. Oscar buzz???
Gerard Butler can act in something other than a romantic comedy. Has anyone seen Phantom of the Opera… well he is the phantom. He sings and dances in that one and does amazing. His comedies are hilarious too!!! Who is writing for you today sweet Perez?
i just wanna lick him. damn fine looking bit of rough.
What do you have against him? I don't understand. He's very talented.
Oh my God! An actor with some kind of accent doing Shakespeare! What a novelty!!! Must alert media!
I like him in 300. Unfortunately, his movies after that have been a bit sucky. I was not impressed with his SNL appearance. What a shame. I hope he finds his niche soon.
Now that Gerard Butler is in America, he MUST visit one of our fine dentist offices all over our beautiful country and take care of whatever it is wrong with his teeth/mouth! Lord!
P.S. I Love You is one of my favourite movies. He was also great in Rock n Rolla, Dear Frankie and 300 and he's getting great reviews for Law Abiding Citizen, which his production company produced. I haven't seen Phantom of the Opera yet, but it's on my list. Granted, The Ugly Truth isn't going to win any Oscars, but there were some funny moments in it. What I love about Gerry is that he isn't letting himself be pigeoned into one type of role… that and he's smoking hot…
The things I could do to this fine man….. I could definitly see him as Hamlet.
This isn't anything new for him. He appeared in "Suddenly Last Summer" ages and ages ago.
he did good in Phantom of the Opera…actually he was pretty damn amazing in it.
Holy shit fucktard, who the fuck are trying to fool? Your sister and mommy? You don't and never did know anything Shakespeare until you plagerized this story (just like every other one, Maryoh!) from another media outlet. Nothing like uninformed, regurgitated shit from ol' shit-for-brains itself!
Fledgling actor?? Are you insane?
Gerard Butler had a stunning turn in the U.K. series "The Jury" in 2002. He held his own as Johnnie, the Scottish alcoholic, against such venerable veterans as Derek Jacobi and Antony Sher. He's amazing in his own right and arrived YEARS ago.
He's no kid, he's 40. Stop trying to pigeonhole him.
Well, well, finally……….perhaps Stratford next? The Bard, live. Accept the challenge Mr. Movie Star?????
Camaguey: FYI, before Gerry starred in films, he already played a role in this particular Shakespeare play on stage so he's not just another actor that wants to play Shakespeare!!!
i wonder if they will keep the original text, you have to be classically trained to do it really. hopefully it will be good though! ive always thought he was a good actor who is better than the shitty romcoms hes been doing lately
i agree he would be a great hamlet or richard the 3rd
"fledgeling"?
1. That is an incorrect spelling
2. The word does not apply to Gerard Butler as he has been an experienced actor for many years
Afterall, Gerry has done Attila, Phantom of the Opera, 300…he will handle this just fine. "Fine" now there's a word to describe Gerry. Law Abiding Citizen is a good movie, not great, but entertaining. There were some parts of the movie, however, where you had to work a little harder to suspend your disbelief but overall the movie had me biting my nails in some places; it was definitely way better than Gamer.

Re: Mancunian –
Word is they will be using the original text but everything else will be from this time period. Gerry is a brit he will handle the Shakespeare just fine.
I love Fiennes and trust he will do an excellent job, but why in particular Coriolanus? As a huge fan of Shakespeare I can think of more than a few masterpieces I'd sooner see on the big screen. Two gents anyone?
