Oh, we remember this episode. This is the one where Monica flashbacks to the early '90s when she was fat and Rachel hadn't gotten a nose job and Ross dressed like he was in Miami Vice.
Except we don't remember Neil Patrick Harris being in Friends? Oh, that's right!

How I Met Your Mother is ripping off from them! Got it!
This promo shot of Neil in an upcoming episodeshows his character Barney in a whole different suit - a fat one! Though we're not sure why he is putting on 300lbs, we feel like this joke is really played out. Hopefully, the copycats writers have come up with an inventive reason for the amount of tonnage on Neil.
We won't keep our hopes up though.

i don't think it is a "flashback". it is most likely a flash forward. or "what if" scene. since, barney doesn't wear a Suit few years prior. he was a "hippy" back then.

they aren't ripping off the show. its got a completely different idea behind it. and they rip on the fact that hanging at a bar is better than a coffee house [the swarley ep]. what the hell. himym is hilarious. and friends isn't even on the air anymore so who gives a shit?

how i met your mother is an awesome show and anybody who watches it knows this can't be a flashback… and it's INFINITELY better than friends ever was so i'm sure they would never feel the need to rip it off.

HIMYM shows that real situations are hilarious and sometimes stretched whe stories are told. lol love that show.
they are def not ripping off friends, the episode is about relationship weight, the joke is how people is relationships tend to let themselves go, and now that Barney and Robin are together, it can even happen to him,, I think it will be a funny concept

Really? Friends is the ONLY sit com in history that has a fat flash back. Get over Perez…you aren't original either…besides prostitution, you have the oldest job int he book…and there are TONS that did it before you and TONS that will after you. You are doing nothing original yourself…only NPH gets paid more than you do…

HIMYM is a great show. Agreed, it's not a rip off- Barney Stinson didn't wear suits until a few years ago- he was a skinny, baja wearing hippie. Must be a present time thing or a what if.

"How I Met Your Mother" is one of the best comedies on TV with a great cast. The use of a fat suit/make-up was not original to friends when it was done brilliantly and there is no reason to think it will be any less brilliant when use here.
