Shiloh Pepin, known to the public as "Mermaid Girl", passed away this weekend in Portland, Maine.

She was only 10-years-old.

So sad.

Pepin was born with a condition called sirenomelia, in which she was born with her legs fused together with no lower colon, genital organs and only one working kidney.

Shiloh, who doctors believed would only live for a few days after her birth, had become a media darling in recent years, appearing on both TLC and The Oprah Winfrey Show, explaining the trials of her condition.

Our thoughts are with Shiloh's family and friends.

So sad……….who knew brad and angie didnt just make up that name!?!?!

  2. 2

    Portland, MAINE not Oregon!

  3. 3

I saw a program on the Discovery channel about Shiloh. She was an amazing and courageous little girl! An inspiration to us all, may she rest in peace :)

  4. 4

Um, there's another Portland actually. And this should be Portland, MAINE not Portland, Oregon.

  5. 5

Perez or whomever writes this.. for heaven's sake stop saying things like "10-years-old." She is a 10-year-old girl, she is 10 years old.

  6. 6

Shiloh is up in heaven running through the fields free…finally! RIP!!!

  7. 7

God bless her and her family, rest in peace little girl.

  10. 10

Awww…she was such a happy and courageous little girl despite her condition. RIP Shiloh!

  11. 11

Another old post…she died last week and it has been widely reported EVERYWHERE!

  12. 12

really Perez, these days-old news postings are getting tiresome. guess you're too busy promoting yourself to bother with what made you famous in the first place…

  13. 13

RIP sweet girl! How sad :(

  14. 14

I even sent you a heads-up Perez. But you were too busy covering those Kardashian broads…now this is old news.

  15. 15

Awww.. That is so sad… So damn young… :(

  16. 16

Re: FaHabulous! – Actually "Shiloh" was a particularly nasty Civil War battle.

  17. 17

I saw this documentary about her and it is so sad. Other than being disabled, the saddest thing is that her parents are both morbidly obese and indulged the poor child by over feeding her. Most likely obesity contributed to her early demise.

  18. 18

Re: ultraviolets – I saw that one too. I was impressed by her good spirits in spite of such a challenging handicap. Sad that she is gone.

  19. 19

Whoever writes this crap is completely illiterate, I would be totally surprised if they have higher than a third grade education.

  20. 20

What was the cause of death? And yes it DOES matter.

  21. 21

Re: weezeeca – wow a girl dies and thats what your worried about?

  22. 22

she had 10 years no thought she would. she truely proved that nothing can get in your way if you don't let it. I'm sure her parents are grieving but need to remember that she never stopped living. I have never seen anyone with such a "OK, this doesn't work so what are we going to do about it" attitude. and she was only 10. she got to have a life, and her parents got to have something they will never lose: her……..

  23. 23

    oh noooooooo
    i loved that girl!
    she was so inspiring!!!

  24. 24

wow this is so sad! i LOVED the program on tlc. she never gave up :[

  25. 25

Oh my God NO! I loved this girl, she was absolutely incredible. She had such a beautiful spirit and was so optimistic…she was more mature than most people I know.
    RIP beautiful angel.

  26. 26

Shiloh was a little doll. That child is in a better place, and we are a sadder world without her.

  27. 27

    So So Sad!
    =(

  28. 28

um… but why did she die?

  29. 29

    Re: supersongbird

I didn't want to mention this as I thought that her obesity was due to her condition. I now realize it was not. I feel bad for her… not only for the condition and the early death, but because her parents abused her with food. childhood obesity is at an all time high and it's absolutely disgusting.

  30. 30

    Re: kruff315

morbid obesity. her parents let her eat and eat and eat because they thought this made her feel better. They apparently did not care for her health.

  31. 31

She had her problems, but she was far from sweet.

  32. 32

Re: FaHabulous! – Um, anyone who knows anything about religion knows that the name Shiloh comes from the Bible.

That name is thousands of years old and you thought Brad and Angelina made it up? lol.

  33. 33

does sirenomelia also make u fat?

  34. 34

Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk – That's really terrible that her parents actually let her eat herself to death. Honestly I think they should be charged with a crime.

However, I think it would be slightly normal for her to be overweight since kids burn off calories by running around. Obviously she's not able to do this. But how can the parents not recognize "ok she's overweight, it's time for LESS food now" instead of giving more and more?

  35. 35

    RIP baby!

  36. 36

I am heartbroken over this news. This girl was a little firecracker and my husband and I loved following her story. RIP, little Shiloh. BTW… I can't believe a little girl is dead and all some of you can say is… this is old news?! Seriously, folks, think before you type. Also, her "bloat" was from the kidney dialysis. She didn't let extra weight hold her back in any way. She was really VERY active.

  37. 37

    KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!

  38. 38

    Gross

  39. 39

Re: kruff315 – she died from pneumonia

  40. 40

Holy hell, that one took you 4 days…..you are falling behind again!

  41. 41

she died because she came doen with a cold. her immune system was so bad, that a simple cold could always become deadly. it turned into pneumonia…the actual cause of death was a blood infection - or at least that's what the Portland Press Herald said yesterday.
her home is in the same town i live in…it's very, very sad.

  42. 42

Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk – You are WAY off! The girl had only one partially functioning kidney. Doctors NEVER expected her to live past a couple days. She also had no lower colon. Her parents did not kill her with food. She received daily dialysis which bloats you right up. She caught a cold and it transitioned to pneumonia. Your comments are so insensitive. This is someone's daughter. Do you not have a soul?

  43. 43

poor girl… so sad… well now at least she can be in peace and have no worries at all…. RIP ..still… I feel bad for her family

  44. Pibb says – reply to this

    44

This is very sad news. She seemed like such a sweet and fun loving little girl.

    RIP Shiloh.

  45. 45

SO HEARTBROKEN!!! i saw her documentary on TLC, she was so vivid and funny and full of life, even with her condition. My heart goes out to her parents, who gave everything to make her life normal and wonderful!! Shiloh rest in peace, sweet angel!

  46. 46

Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk – This is way off the mark. I don't know anything about her parents feeding her to death, but she was on kidney dialysis, which makes you bloated, not to mention that she had to be on steroids, which puff you up like that. If she hadn't been on the steroid, she would have died a long time ago. That's why she had the large face, body, etc. - not because she ate nothing but ice cream and cookies all day.

  47. 47

    R.I.P little angel

  48. 48

I've never heard of her but will research and watch some of her interviews. She seemed like a cool little girl who was more mature than most adults (myself included). It's a shame she had to die so young.

  49. 49

If I were her, I don't know if I could ever smile like she does. She's a great, courageous, and optimistic little girl, and I believe she's inspired many people. Rest in peace, Shiloh! We all love you!

  50. 50

Re: SheriMoonFireFly – put down the fattie you hippie

Poor little girl–she was a sweetheart.

  53. 53

She's in the arms of the angels now. RIP babygirl!! Prayers to her family.

  54. 54

i saw her special on TLC and on the Oprah Show, may god bless her and may she finally rest in peace!

  55. 55

Aww :( I'd seen her on a show on TV, documenting her life. She was amazing and had such a sweet personality

  56. 56

Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk – Uh, wrong. She died of complications from pneumonia, but thanks for being an asshole.

  57. 57

SO SAD I LIKED HER WHEN I SAW HER ON TV

  58. 58

how sad, her poor mom and dad must be just crushed. R.I.P little girl

  59. 59

she didn't eat herself to death. read about her medical conditions, they caused her to be chubby.

rest in peace sweet shiloh! you had a beautiful spirit and you taught so many people SO much. you are now free to RUN about and play :)

  60. 60

How incredibly sad. She was a great role model on how to be positive no matter what your downfalls in life……R.I.P

  61. 61

God bless her, may she rest in peace.

  62. 62

O wow, I just saw her on Oprah not too long ago and she looked so vibrant and full of life. :(

haha. one less retard in the world. yippee.

  64. 64

aww I met Shiloh many times and knew her personally through family! Our thoughts are with youu! RIP Shiloh forever missed

  65. 65

Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk – as any parent would do they gave her what she wanted because they knew that any day she could be gone! she didn't wnat people to feel bad for her she wanted people tolook up to her! she loved herself and made the best of her situation, and for her parents they are amazing people that did everything they could for her and to make her happy so you can't be saying they fed her obesity problems no they made their little girl as happy as she could be.

  66. 66

Re: angbeep – Well aren't you just an oxygen thieving waste of space. I'm quite certain I speak for everyone here when I say GO FUCK YOURSELF!

  67. 67

Re: supersongbird – This child was not obese, you moron. She had two kidney transplants and various other ailments for which medication was given that causes the body to swell. Someday when you have to take the same meds (as steroids such as prenesone are given often) you'll find out.

  68. 68

she past away!! i watched the show oh gosh she was such a bright girl. r.i.p

  69. 69

Re: supersongbird – She died of pneumonia,NOT from being overweight! Geez,I guess you GUESSED WRONG!

  70. 70

My heart is so sad! I've watched EVERY show about this little girl! She was her parents only child and they completely adored her! She was their life and now their life is distroyed! I feel extremely sad for her parents! Nothing can be more devastating then loosing a child!

  71. 71

Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk – Her parents let her eat & eat? How do you know this,Einstein? Just how much exercise do you think she was able to get? Get a fucken clue!

  72. 72

Re: MileyCyrusLooksLikeAChipmunk – They did let her eat, but it was partly due to the steroids she was on. They make you want to eat!

  73. 73

    Re: angbeep – You're a DOUCHE!

  83. 83

I watched both of her specials on TLC and this little girl was AMAZING. I wish more people had her infectious personality. Nothing seemed to get her down. My thoughts go out to her family.

  84. 84

    R.I.P. :(

  85. 85

I'm a little sad about this. She was such a cute kid and I really liked the stories I had seen on her. So sad.

  86. 86

My mother works with her mother in Portland, Maine. anddd.. just to clear the air, obesity had ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING to do with her passing. She was in the hospital for about a week because her kidneys were failing, she started to get better, and then they failed completely.

nothing to do with obesity. at all. what so ever. and her parents cared very much about her health, they cared so much in fact, that they did everything they could to help her. She was the only "meraid girl" to live as long as she did, and was estimated to live only 72 hours after BIRTH. she survived 10 years. don't be so ignorant people! her parents cared deeply about her, and her health!

  87. 87

what a brave and sweet little girl! Surely Heaven has welcomed another beautiful angel…
