We Need More Latinos! And Asians! And DIVERSITY!
The Screen Actors Guild has released some startlingly sad facts about diversity in film and TV.
Unfortunately, minorities, seniors and female actors haven't been making much progress recently when it comes to roles in film and television.
In 2007, minority actors were at a higher number, receiving 29.3 percent of total roles. In 2008, that went down to 27.5 percent.
The percentage breakdown of film and television roles from 2008 was 72.5 percent Caucasian, 13.3 percent African American, 6.4 percent Latino, 3.8 percent Asian-Pacific Islander, 0.3 percent Native American and 3.8 percent other or unknown.
That's pretty pathetic!
Also, not surprisingly, male actors continue to snag the roles over female actors two to one.
The only gain for minority groups was from Asian-Pacific Islanders growing from 3.4 percent to 3.8 percent. Which still isn't that much when you think about it!
Come on, Hollywood! Step up the diversity and get it together!

how can men "snag" roles that are written for them?? and i dont need to say what countless others have said about the percentages being spot on with americas demographics, educate yourself perez before you start posting what you think are thought provoking posts of injustice in america. do you even care about this or are you just posting this to get attention and to seem like you care about more than just gossip, hell do you actually care about any of the causes you promote on your site, id like to know if you actually donate your time or slackingly earned money to any of them
First of all, the lack of Latinos is inaccurate. They have their own networks and their own movie companies. Every time they want a minority female for Will Smith, Denzel Washington, The Rock, etc. she is some C-list white girl or Latina!!! Never in the history of cinema has she been BLACK!!! or African American if you prefer.
The reason for this is Black Women do not appeal to WHITE MEN! The same men who raise the money for the films, started the business of movies, and own every aspect of the BUSINESS!
So Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, even though they get crazy crititsm, are doing the right thing, their OWN films! White films are the last place for whites! to be WHITE! In that fantasy film world they can tell THEIR STORIES!
I totally support them on that! Minorities should not feel that the white man needs to visualize them in their fantasy! The minorities need to make their own!
