Happy Anniversary, Gagaloo!
Exactly one year ago today, October 28th 2008, the world's ears were graced with the explosive and (then) ahead-of-its-time sounds coming from Lady GaGa's debut album, The Fame.
The year has sure been a very very very good one for her and for her album, as it was the most successful debut disc of 2009. To date, the album has peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 list, remains in the Top 20 and has sold more than 1,530,000 copies in the United States alone.
As for worldwide, The Fame has sold more than 4,176,000 copies!!!
All four of her amazing singles have been on the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Her first two singles off the debut album, Just Dance and Poker Face, soared to the #1 spot, making GaGa the first artists to do so in ten years! (Take that Christina Aguilera!)
All three of Lady GaGa's first singles have made it to the top of the Billboard Mainstream Top 40, and if her latest hit, Paparazzi can rise to #1, she will be the only artist in the charts' history to collect four number ones from a debut album.

you know, when you actually see the numbers it really isn't very impressive. either "artists" these days aren't making very good music, or people just aren't buying albums anymore like they used to. it's probably a good combination of both. i mean, look at the numbers for alanis morissette's first TWO albums. they both sold way more than this, and i don't think "Thank U" got more airplay than "Pokerface". it really is odd.

Alanis's "Jagged Little Pill" sold 30 million copies alone. That's almost 6 times what Lady GaGa has sold. The only other albums to do this are Shania Twain's "Come On Over" and Mariah Carey's "Music Box." Carey, as of now, has the best selling record of the last 5 years in the United States with "The Emancipation of Mimi." It managed to sell 5 million copies IN THE U.S. in 2005 alone.
