Matthew Broderick Disappoints At The Starry Messenger Preview, Show's Opening Delayed

Doesn't sound very professional to us!
Disappointed theatergoers were very upset over Matthew Broderick's shoddy performance in The Starry Messenger. The actor had to ask for his line 10 times — and that was just in the first act!
Broderick is known for studying his scripts later on, but he may want to change his methods after hearing some of the harsh criticism from audience members:
"Broderick should be fined for this sort of thing. The theater, the producers, [director] Kenneth Lonergan and Broderick should be ashamed to have let an audience in for this."
"For God's sake, they are charging good money for this, and it is indeed unconscionable to use these as rehearsals. I only hope they do cancel this week of performances because I, too, have a ticket, and I don't want to endure this either."
"It was an overall mess. He kept apologizing under his breath after he forgot a line, and everyone in the audience started to feel awkward."
Ouch!
Broderick's last performance in The Philanthropist from earlier in the year didn't go over well with theater critics either. Some are saying people might be too harsh on the actor as it was a preview performance for The Starry Messenger. We tend to disagree.
Preview or not, people are PAYING to see you perform! Get it together and do your job!

As a member of the Academy, SAG, and Actor's Equity, I would have fired his fat ass right there on the spot. And if that didn't work I would have forced my 9" cock down his throat until he got it right. But why reward this queen when he can't even remember his lines.
As a theatre actor myself…previews are exactly that…previews. The actor still has the ability to call for a line when necessary…and even though it is a paying audience, it's not full price. Give the guy a break. He just had twins. I chellenge you all to get onstage and do better.

You people have NO IDEA how hard it is to memorize on onstage play FULL of lines as the STAR of the show. give him a break. It was a PREVIEW and these people should have known is they are such theatre goers that this sort of thing happens…..

They're PREVIEWS. Shows are never stellar in previews. I've seen way worse than a couple forgotten lines… and you know these people didn't pay full-price for their tickets. Also, didn't he just have twins? Good god people.

If you had any clue you would know that as a PREVIEW show this is equivalent to a 'warm-up' and any idiot buying tickets to such a show should know its customary for the actors for ask for lines, etc.
Pu-leaze! I've been acting for 21 years and have never heard someone call for line in previews. We stop if there are technical difficulties or someone gets hurt, but other than that the show must go on. We use previews to figure out which parts of the show are working and which need to be changed and to gauge audience response. He should have known his lines weeks ago. And say what you want about that crazy queen Nathan Lane, but he shows up to the first rehearsal with all of his lines memorized! Unprofessional. The people should get their money back, and he should be ashamed.
Maybe the baby daddy is being kept awake by their twins to much at nite? He is probably not getting to much sleep lately…
