Michael Jackson Performing Arts Center To Be Built in Hometown

Last night, Joe Jackson appeared with the mayor of Michael Jacksons hometown, Mayor Rudy Clay to announce the construction of the Jackson family museum and performing arts center in Gary. The men decided the best place to share this news was at the Brenden Theatre at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.

The gentlemen received a $10,000 check from Johnny Brenden, president and CEO of Brenden Theatres Corp, to begin work on the project. We estimate they'll need about $30 million more to get it off the ground.
Hopefully, no one was dumb enough to hand over that money directly to Joe. It'll get spent before the first brick is bought to build the place!

I would spend the money on moving the remaining residents to a more viable U.S. city.
I saw a special on I believe either the discovery channel or the history channel about how more than half the town is completely abandoned due to all the mill closings over the years. Sounds like throwing money down the drain at best or an unsavory business practice for Papa Joe at worst.
I hope the mayor had to foot his own bill for the trip to Las Vegas and not the suffering taxpayers.

I was travelling through Gary the week after MJ died. No crowds in the old neighborhood, no fans, no one cared.
I don't have an issue with this being built, as long as it's paid for through private donations. Taxpayers should have nothing to do with it.

If you think Joe Jackson is an idiot, Rudy Clay is a bigger idiot. Embarrassed to say it is my hometown and I moved away years ago. I can't imagine who would want to visit there. The city doesn't have anything to offer anyone. It's only saving grace is that it is so close to Chicago, Il, it could be considered a suburb. Don't bet on this project ever happening!

Once they built a Sheraton Hotel in Gary Indiana. Never got up and running. All the televisions were stolen out of the rooms. The faucets, everything, were gone.
i live in n.w. indiana and anything rudy clay the mayor of gary is involved in would be a joke. the man is a fool. and we all know joe is an embarrassment to the jackson family. those two will never get any performing arts center off the ground. and secondly the people of gary can't afford anything like that especially with the economy the way it is. rudy and joe are two of a kind. they will need a miracle for this to happen!

after michael died that stupid mayor rudy clay had joe come out to gary for a memorial for michael. people of gary wanted to know who the hell paid for this trip as the city is stuggling big time. joe arrived in a limo talked for maybe a minute and left. rudy made such a fool of himself as joe pretty much ignored him! joe is just plain ignorant. looking and acting.

that's not totally true. there were fans all over his old neighborhood. people came from all over the country. people do still care! but i agree it will never happen and if there was a miracle and it did–no one outside people from gary would risk their lives to go.
