Canadian Singer Killed By Coyotes!

How awful!
A young singer/songwriter from Toronto named Taylor Mitchell was attacked and ultimately killed by a pack of coyotes.
The young girl was hiking alone on a trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park this week when she was confronted by two coyotes. Several other hikers in the area heard her screams and cries for help and immediately called 911. When help arrived, she was airlifted to a hospital, but at that point she was already in critical condition.
She succumbed to her injuries early yesterday.
We send our condolences out to her family and friends at this most difficult time.

So sad .. horrible way to die. Rest in peace, Taylor.
That is really sad but I never understood why people go hiking in the woods in the first place. It's the animals territory and they are only doing what is natural to them. Go workout in a gym and stay safe..
This SO tragic! I live in Nova Scotia- it broke my heart to hear about this.
I was always frightened of coyotes- now I am TERRIFIED of them!
Re: dopemcee – YOU PIECE OF SHIT- ONLY LOSERS WOULD MAKE A COMMENT LIKE THAT!!!
Re: Shelleybean – I hear ya. I'm from NS too. SO scary…
This was very sad to hear I live 45 mins from where this happened. I hiked there this year I only saw 3 moose on the trail that day which is very normal. I would never walk that trail alone its a 2 hour track and your cell phone won't work out there in places. Another thing our coyotes grow bigger here well thats whay was in the paper today, so she might no have been able to fight them off. But the park is saying there are 6 coyotes and they are not taking and chances so they are going to kill than all, cause they don't know which one attack the girl and so far the killed one.
She went to the same high school as me, she was two years younger. So sad
omg that is tragic
Re: Bungle22 – lol
Re: misiz_sjmxo – Yeah, no, nice try. The trail was in Cape Breton Highlands Park, a five- to six-hour drive from Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia. And she was hiking alone, although there were lots of others on the trail. And her family wasn't with her; she was doing her first tour of the East Coast, promoting her CD.
Re: adneauseum – Apparently coyotes in Eastern Canada do have wolf in them. I was listening to a CBC over the past couple of days, and the Eastern Coyote can have quite a bit of wolf in it.
The poor young girl!
I can't stand to think of what horror and pain she endured in the final hours of her short life. How can people be so heartless to make light of such a tragedy? Where is the humanity? Your mothers would be so ashamed…
I find it interesting all the people who say, "Oh, you should never hike alone." Being alone can be the point of a hike. I hike sometimes with groups and sometimes alone, it all depends, but I really value my solitary hikes (and I hike a lot in Nova Scotia; absolutely beautiful part of the world and one of my favourite places to go to clear my head). In terms of the iPod, she was a singer/songwriter, so the combination of music and the natural beauty of the place would have been a no-brainer for her. I think we can all judge the situation and say "coulda, shoulda, woulda", but none of us is promised tomorrow. My heart breaks for her mother and for all of us, who will never know what she would have done musically and otherwise. I feel certain she is at peace.
Ms. Mitchell's mother has made the following statement: "When the decision had been made to kill the pack of coyotes, I clearly heard Taylor's voice say, 'please don't, this is their space.' She wouldn't have wanted their demise, especially as a result of her own. She was passionate about animals, was an environmentalist and was also planning to volunteer at the Toronto Wildlife Centre in the coming months," Emily Mitchell said in a statement Thursday. "Tragically, it was her time to be taken from us so soon," the mother said.
oh wow.. this is so incredibly sad.. i feel horrible for her friends and family.
Re: therealstinkweed – she wasn't just BIT by a coyote. she was fucking KILLED. this isn't about statistics. quit comparing apples to oranges, dipshit. rest in peace, taylor.
Re: dopemcee –
fuck you
So sad.
What a horrible way to die.
Rest peacefully.
Doubt it was coyotes, they don't go after humans. If no one actually saw the animals, I'm betting it was a mountain lion or something. But hey, wild animals gotta eat too, and wtf do people expect when they go into the animals territory?
Re: dopemcee – asswipe!
Thats awful! So sad for her and her family and friends. RIP
I do wish there were more details regardging her injuries, tho.
Re: kissmewhereipee –
U R Dumb!! First of all there are no mountain lions in Nova Scotia, second of all the 5 or more hikers who tried to save her did see the coyotes attacking her and threw things at them, scaring them away. Did you not read any of the other comments on here? Coyote attacks are extremely rare but they do happen and coyotes around here are bigger, more like wolves.
And for all those who are blaming the victim and saying she was "hiking alone" and "invading the animals space"…ummm it's a public trail, very popular here and visited by many, a lot of them are alone when hiking.
