We're sure that everyone working at AEG Live is happy the weekend is here.

Hopefuly, weekend moviegoers will help save their investment on the new Michael Jackson flick!

Though it had a strong opening day release on Wednesday, This Is It took a nose dive on Thursday, falling down from $7,445,661 in sales to $3,762,871.

That is almost a 50% decline!!!

Looks like Paranormal Activity may just be #1 again this week!

boo fucking hoo. this should never have been made, its just tragic how everyone seems to be cashing in

    2. 2

After the initial outpouring from Jackson's hardcore fans, the thing those folks need to remember is that in spite of the massive news coverage of his death, Jackson's CD's hadn't really been selling in the U.S. for over a decade and not many folks are going to go out of there way to see a dry run concert rehearsal.

    3. 3

i wouldn't watch this crap so-called movie if you put a machine gun to my head.

    4. 4

      going to see it today

    5. 5

This had trainwreck written all over it from the beginning. And Paranormal was the worst movie I have seen. It was done on a $15000 budget? what they spend it on? food?

    6. 6

      SHUT UP PEREZ!

    7. 7

This is exactly what would have happened to the tour if he was alive…the hardcore (read: out-of-touch) fans would have flocked to the early shows and then reality would have caught up with him (that no one cares about his career any more…except those that can make money from it!)

    8. 8

well it is falling fast b/c anyone with a damn brain knows that this is just a money grab and it is sickening. I will wait for it to get a blockbuster and pay 3 bucks to see it.

A friend of mine (a HUGE MJ fan) dragged me (not a huge fan) to see it, and all I can say it was good, not great. It kind of dragged in the middle, and you're really not going to learn anything new about MJ seeing this movie. The whole concept of the actual concert was great, and the choreography involving Michael's background dancers was astounding–wished the film would have let you learned more about them. Had he been able to do this show, it would have been a kick-ass concert.

    11. 11

Good morning b. Would love to hang out today! Ym b 46 ms

    12. 12

He would so hate his family if he were here. He doesn't want people seeing him, not perfect, and his family knows that! I'm glad their sells fell. The other brothers need to figure out how to make their own money and not off of him.

    13. 13

Why would anyone suppoert the scum bag child molester is beyond me. Perezze no more of this scum bag. The world is a much better place with him dead.

    14. 14

To everyone who commented on this without having seen this movie, including you perez, cause obviously you haven't seen it or you would've posted something about amazing this is..It has nothing to do with being an MJ fan..I am 20 years old, and never listened to his music until it was thrown in my face when he died in June…THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING..if you are a fan of ANY type of music..you will LOVE THIS and feel so inspired and enlightened by this movie..it shows how a HUGE production is put together behind the scenes..its not just about jackson..and it has nothing to do with his personal life..its just him performing and being a perfectionist with his art and his music..and all of his dancers and musicians perfecting this amazing thing..it is so amazing…you will leave feeling truly happy that there was someone out there.. a pop star..who truly loved their craft..no matter what he did in his persona life…I am someone who thinks he was probably guilty, who thinks he was crazy, BUT he had so much passion, and such a humble talent for this craft, that no one else in music has yet to share with us..and it was amazing to watch him and all of these other musicians work…and perfect and mess up and become better in this movie! The guitarist was amazing, the key board guy was amazing, jackson was amazing..it WAS amazing! If you like music..THIS IS IT!

    15. 15

I saw "This Is It" and I thought it was great! MJ was working so hard to make a HUGE comeback. He will always be the best PERFORMER the entertainment industry has ever seen.

    16. 16

Who wants to sit through some lame dance rehearsal…why didnt they show him using..that would have been more fun to watch!!

    17. 17

i always though this movie was not going to be successful in america because for some readon american are very think they are perfect and have the right to judge people and specially mj. and anotehr thing taht bothers me was the over hyped taht sonny did with this movies comparing it with harry potter or the transformers, because if this movie fails mj's name is teh one who sufferes not the people of sonny who only cares about the money

    18. 18

it;s a 2 hr documentary on the making of his show, so of course it's not going to outsell other films. it was a fantastic movie, so all the haters can suck a cock.

    19. 19

I will see it on sunday!

    21. 21

Re: haylerr89 – Right on, sistah. You hit the nail on the head! Regardless of how anyone may feel about MJ personally, this movie was all kinds of kick ass. "This Is It" was all that!

    22. 22

This is awesome! No one should cash in on the dead! RIP Michael, I hope you are resting with ease.

    23. 23

It's Halloween weekend who wants to go see a non horror movie? I'm not going to see it until next weekend or I might just wait until it comes out on dvd to see it!

    24. 24

I saw this last night and my movie theater has it playing in 3 different theaters. My time was basically sold out, it was really crowded!! And when it was over and we were leaving there was a huge line of people waiting to go in for the next showtime!!!

The movie was amazing, I recommend it to everybody!!!

    25. 25

I just saw it. The movie showed just how great MJ was and how much he loved music and his passion for it. It showed how happy and excited he was to get back up on stage. Although he was thin, holy shit could he still sing and dance like nobody's business! The dootr that murdered him should be thrown in jail for killing such a great person..

    26. 26

Turn the hype meter down and it is a good documentary. I understand the hardcore fans praising it and salivating its every turn. However, the showing I went to was only a third full. The audience was really lethargic and I had to lead the clapping behind most numbers…and even then, only a few people clapped along. The music sounds great. But at the end of the day, it is a documentary about dancing and a dancer. It is not the next "Star Wars" or "Titantic"….it is just a solid documentary. Shame on Sony and the Michael Jackson estate for over hyping this and also forcing you to buy the entire soundtrack, which is a rehashed compilation of which there are already several, for the title track. You actually might like the title track at the end, until you go to iTunes and are forced to buy the entire album. But it is now #1 on iTunes so what the hell do I know?

    27. 27

This is It is a fabulous film. Best ever! I saw it last night and would see it over and over again. Loved it. Inspiring.

    28. 28

well im a fan, but waiting till the dvd.

but remeber their are some who think its to soon, the this is not it campain people, the fans, and the people wanting to see it out on dvd.

still its beating half of the concert movies out. more thabn your precious madonna

    29. 29

maybe this a sign that people have moved on and that we should let him rest in peace.

    30. 30

I don't know where Perez is getting this crap, if you read articles that aren't on blogs from the AP like Reuters, it's doing fantastic. Typical media BS.

    31. 31

because nobody cares like the media or his family tries to portray. In comparison to his fan base in the 80's he only had a handful left, everyone else has moved on, he was human and he died, hundreds of people will die today, it really doesn't matter.

    32. 32

It's Halloween weekend. Who the hell wants to go to the movies?!

      34

Halloween weekend and two World Series games are two major impediments for this movie to overcome. It is still projected to beat Paranormal though. The question is still out there whether Sony will extend it's run the way Disney did for the Hanna Montana concert film and the 3D return of the first two toy story movies.

    35. 35

      Re: ap076 – Well said!

The movie was GREAT and I think that he was at Elvis genius level… yes I went there and I never really cared for MJ as a person… go see it.

    36. 36

This Is It is a wonderful movie. It truly shows Michael's genius. He wanted his message spread and sadly, this wasn't the way he planned. Many people are against this movie because of the controversy with the This Is Not It campaign. I feel as if Sony and AEG are trying to cash in on his death. Michael wouldn't have wanted this movie out because he was a perfectionist. I loved it and I think everyone should see it. I just wish these movie came out not under these circumstances. RIP Michael. I love you and miss you.

    37. 37

      Re: Superboy

Michael wasn't at Elvis' genius level. He was way above it.

    38. 38

      I liked it.
Rotten Tomatoes lists it with an 80% approval rating and other critiques I've read are positive.
Remember, it's a documentary film..not for everyone.. but I really enjoyed it.

    39. 39

      To All you MJ Haters….
You obviously have no clue about the music industry. This man was extraordinary entertainer with genuine talent and artistry. There is not one artist out there, living or dead, that even comes close.

    61. 61

That's what they get for hyping it sooooooooooo much. Everyone is just trying to cash in. I would watch the movie, but I wouldn't pay money to see it in theaters. It's a dress rehearsal, not even giving MJ the true representation he truly deserves.

Anschutz's AEG made its dough on This IS IT. Sony paid AEG 60 million for the footage and right to produce This Is It. I don't know what AEG's liability was for the cancelled 50 shows, i'm willing to bet AEG got a mega check from an insurance company covering any cancellation expenses. Phil Anschutz is no Perez but he's an all right business mind. RIP MJ.

    67. 67

      CHILD MOLESTOR!!!

    68. 68

Concert movies have very limited appeal, even the ones which are excellent, as was the case for U2s "Rattle And Hum," Madonna's "Truth or Dare," and the brilliant biography/concert film "Everybody Stares" about The Police. Even hardcore fans sometimes bow out of going to the theater because it's very hard to duplicate on film what one does live. Given that MJ has somewhat limited appeal, I was not surprised by the numbers it has taken in and I almost laughed when Sony and EAG predicted it would pass the 250 million mark…

    69. 69

Re: Edgenet – In the 80's and 90's,faith in "recovered memory therapy" where individuals went into therapy with no memory of (childhood) abuse , came out believing that they had been sexually molested. .Hypnosis was seen as a valid method, including the use of mind altering drugs like sodium amytal. These methods had been discredited as capable of planting false memories.Chandler told his father he had never been , molested(he was 14 yrs) and unlikekely to forget such an incident. His bankrupt daddy tried to plant false memories using sodium penthotal which didn't work. He found a psychiatrist who used sodium amytal with success. Such evidence is not admissible in court and there was no collaborative evidence. Hundreds of children all confimed that no such incidents happened. There has been more than enough evidence to suggest that money was the motivation in both cases, as the acquittal proved. Two people who tried to cash in with stories of molestation by MJ , were charged with extortion and obstruction of justice and found guilty in Canada.Maybe you can educate yourself with relevant books and research instead of tabloid and gossip media, otherwise STFU!

    73. 73

Perez get your facts correct! THIS IS IT has made in its first 5 days 101 MILLIONS. it almost doubles miley cyrus best of both worlds which had the biggest box office success for a movie concert till now. and must remember THIS IS IT has only been in theathers for 5 days and the HM concert was for months! PS: THIS IS IT: is more than great. i think the word great does not describe it acurratly and it was only rehearsals! With L-O-V-E like Michael said :)

    74. 74

Re: kissmyassobama – you must really be ignorant! you go there to see art in progress. you do to see something that artists today dont have PASSION and most important TRUE TALENT.

    76. 76

HEY CHECK IT OUT! This is It #1 for the weekend, beating out Paranormal Activity by over $5 Million domestically AND garnering OVER $100 in Worldwide sales total. Hmmmm… looks like Perez once again shows that he's a fucking retard when it comes to opening box office numbers. Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com; final figures will be released Monday:

      1. "Michael Jackson's This Is It," $21.3 million.

      2. "Paranormal Activity," $16.5 million.

      3. "Law Abiding Citizen," $7.3 million.

      4. "Couples Retreat," $6.1 million.

      5. "Saw VI," $5.6 million.

LONG LIVE MICHAEL .. THE KING !

    82. 82

just got back from seeing "This is it" and I have to say it was not what I expected, it was much better. In my life time I have come to realize I will probable witness only a few genius's, and life changing events. MJ is one of them, you can think you are above all the hype and marketing BS and refuse to cave in to spent ten bucks to go see it. You will be the one who loses, this is a wonderful tribute to a genius man, whom happened to live in our lifetime. The dancers, the producers knew he was the real thing. Dont put this docomentry of this wonderful man down until you go see it, This Is It!

    83. 83

By most standards, 21 mil for domestic audiences is pretty low… Especially for a movie that has been so heavily promoted. Once one considers that the movies take has declined rapidly over the last few days, it's safe to assume that the movie is, in fact, "falling fast." Of course, the movie's saving grace has been international markets… where his popularity has been less tarnished… On the subject of such things as his actual character, regardless of what allegations have been brought against him by others, this is a man who admitted to Martin Bashir that he "shared his bed with children." Personally, I cringed when I heard this. Were he not a celebrity, he would most certainly be in jail, because unless one is sleeping with their own children, no grown man has any business doing so… Those who disagree are obviously misguided.

    84. 84

Your ass should have waited until the full results came in. The movie made over $101 million worldwide this weekend and $21 millions in the US. You always so fucking negative, that's why a lot of ppl always talk shit on this site.
