The street artist responsible for the now iconic image of our current president used in his campaign was arrested in Boston over the weekend.
Shepard Fairey was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants, both charging him for tagging property with graffiti. He was released on Saturday on a $1,500 bail, but is due in court this morning for further review.
Our thinking is, how is he suppose to apologize for something that helped make him famous?! We sure as hell wouldn't!

Yeah, this is deff. not the first time he's been arrested in Boston. About 6 months ago, he was in town for a show, and they were ready to arrest him as soon as he arrived on the same outstanding warrants. Same thing, paid the bail and was on his way!!!!!!! Its nothing to this filthy rich guy, pay the chump change and go on his way, for the impact his art makes, who really cares?!!?! He was amazing even before this obama work!

Two warrants were issued for Fairey on Jan. 24 after police determined he'd tagged property in two locations with graffiti based on the Andre the Giant street art campaign from his early career, Officer James Kenneally said. One of the locations was the railroad trestle by the landmark Boston University bridge over the Charles River, police said.

Shepard Fairey has been arrested several times for his previous work in other cities before. This is not that new or groundbreaking. I appreciate Perez's fun and interesting takes on the news, but sometimes the sensationalism of the the postings make things seem more outrageous or outlandish than they really are. It's understood that this is what it takes to be the kind of celebrity blogger that Perez is and it's also understood that what Mr. Fairey is doing is legally and technically wrong, but his work is also accepted street art, and despite the crappy, low-grade work that is often put up as art, Fairey's work is crafty, attention-grabbing, well thought out, precise and thought-provoking. I would love to see others who have any ounce of talent, or any ounce of brains do what Mr. Fairey has done, despite it being illegal or not. That being said, he needs to answer to the law and THEY will decide what or if he did something wrong. Who are we to judge anyone but ourselves?
I believe that graffiti is art, but in the right spaces. Tagging the side of a building is someone's property. THAT is vandalism.
If someone burned down a building to honor our president, should they also be above the law?
While they are artists, graffiti artists are also vandals if they paint property that isn't their own.

Yeah right. IF Obama had actually supported this talented artist properly as is warranted by the exposure that Obama received due to the actual artwork itself - the artist would not be out in the streets protesting. THE ARTIST could/should be working with disadvantaged youth in a program fully subsidized by the Obama Dream Team. They benefitted in a huge financial way due to this amazing piece of creativity. The artist could chose a location and building that is "real" for street artists like himself. With hot coffee, sandwiches and healthy snacks available to the young artists as they "drop" in for mentoring and human connections… Lots and lots of free art supplies of good quality and some gentle guidance on techniques and marketing. Just where MY head goes with this story… HE created this. HOW much was he paid?? IS his determination and geniosity being shared with the world or is he screaming for JUSTICE???
