The Germans Don't Care For 30 Rock

What is all of Germany watching that is better than the wild antics of Tracy Morgan?
In its debut on German television Sunday night, Tina Fey's Emmy-winning comedy 30 Rock scored a 0.0 rating, meaning fewer than 5,000 viewers tuned in.
We bet if they got The Hoff to do a musical number in the episode, those Germans would have tuned in!

All That Wasted Booze!

Deutchlander's have class and are educated.
Dont mention the war…
Wow thats pathetic.
LOL can't stsnd Alx and Tina
Different culture, they can give a crap less about former SNL cast members.
I don't blame them. The show sucks!
not the right kind of Zeitgeist for duetchlanders!Besides the shows really hit or miss anyway
I want The Hoff at the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall next week! That would be so awesome! I've been looking for freeeeedom! Americans have no sense of irony.
btw: Perez, today I saw you on german television in your Gaga-costume "speaking" German. Schlampe!
Every american tv show in germany sucks
the germans need to learn english and watch it in english
than it's funny and good
screw the german shit

Luv 30 Rock - but agree The Hoff would do much better in Germany - The Hoff recently went to South Africa and swam with the sharks - just when others write him off he is off doing something so cool (not sure when/where it airs) - luv "The Hoff"!
the reason for 30 rock performing badly is becoz it is broacast on a digital channel most people here have no acces to or are unaware of its existence.
and yes germans have class and are educated! and a lot of american tv shows air successfully in germany. oh and keep the hoff away from our country. invite him to cocktailbar so that he can miss his flight. grüße from germany
We are soooo over the Hoff. Only Americans think that the Germans still think he's hot. You are a bit behind on that one.
They are too busy watching porn and Cascada
Wow… as a German I'm actually a little bit… I don't know… maby shocked by those (stupid and false) comments. Such an amount of prejudices and ignorance… that is sad. Because when I visited your country I honestly loved it, - my brother even lived and worked there for one year. And I'd never even get the idea of thinking or saying something so negative about ALL Americans in generell just because some of them did something as stupid as voting for George W. Bush - for instance. We are so open to everything that's American - in fact it's dominating our whole culture, like music, TV and movies… We love your stuff! But I personally don't know anyone who likes David Hasselhoff. He had one hit and that was 20 years ago…
Maybe 30 Rock just didn't get enough promotion here. As a matter of fact I didn't even hear about it starting on TV. There are actually HEAPS of American TV shows which are incredibly successful on german televison. Much more than our own stuff.
And by the way, if someone tells "the Germans" to learn English: I'd be quite interested in how well this someone actually speaks and understands our or any other foreign language himself… Or how well informed he really is about our country… Because my English might not be perfect (by far!) but most of us learn english starting in elementary school and at least understand it quite well. We are not all that stupid as some of you here obviously seem to picture us…
Re: dunnvillle debbie dioxin – rofl. too true.
well well, I didnt hear any promotion going on over here. And BTW Hasselhoff crashed down the wall (lol) so we probably owe you one….
It bombed because 30 Rock sux!

# 16
You are so right on many points.
All I ask, as an American, is to believe me when I say that all of us are not so narrow-minded, nor did we all vote for George W. - - TWICE!!!
I am proud of President Obama and am always happy to hear that Europeans like and respect him.
But sadly, he is struggling here, meeting opposition at every little detail!! I'm worried that we are exhausting him in only 9 1/2 months.
Anyway, the David Hasselhoff thing in Germany is just as bad as the Jerry Lewis thing in France. So stupid. Forgive us!
wow, i must agree with kat_strat.
as a german (living in canada, though) i must say that perez, your post could not have been less tastefully done.
talk about stereotypes and ignorance!!
educate yourself, man.
30 Rock is full of jokes and references about American pop-culture and
U.S. politics.
I can certainly understand how any other country would be at a disadvantage, and BORED, with our TV shows that have so much "insider" dialogue!
good that show sucks ass, at least the germans know it
Re: tussi B. – sure, because Americans speak SO MANY other languages than English. At least Germans actually put some effort in learning English when they are in an English speaking country (I am an exhange student in Australia and the German exchange students kick American ass when it comes to English grammar). Unlike Americans who I've never seen taking the effort to learn the language when they are in a non-English speaking country. They just talk louder to people who don't understand them (which is actually pretty funny). And btw I am not German, I'm Dutch (and I speak 4 languages fluently including your precious English)
20 Rock is not funny at all… i dont understand why anyone likes it
good even the germans know it sucks.
the show is horrible and honestly they've been trying to ram it down our throats ever since it started. and so what is the show wins all these awards it's a show no one watches! because alec baldwin is a douche and no one wants to see tina fey "try" to be funny.
Good even the germans know it sucks.
And honestly ever since 30 rock started they have been trying to ram it down our throats and by bringing on guest stars and advertising all over the place but you know what? still no one watches it! and do you know why? because alec baldwin is a douche and no one wants to see tina fey "try" to be funny.
and yes the show has won countless awards but it's still a show barely anyone watches. God did you see the emmys? it was nothing but 30 rock i got so annoyes i had to turn it off. anyways i just don't see how people think it's funny.
Germans are intelligent people.
The show isn't the problem. It's the Synchronization. Can you even imagine trying to translate Tracy Morgan into German? Any humor is completely lost in the process.
Re: kat_strat – I couldn't agree more.
Perez Hitlon bitches and moans and whines and cries about gay issues and for people not to be ignorant and uneducated about stuff pertaining to them, but he's such an ignorant bastard himself.
the low rating has 3 reasons perez:
1) Its free TV premiere on sunday was on a new (side- sub) channel called ZDF NEO, nobody wants or has this channel.. no BIG channel has aired the series.
2) Its first seasons have already premiered on pay tv channel FOX, nearly 3 million ppl in Germany have pay tv… but ratings stay unknown.
3) in Germany movies are way more important for the primetime than tv series… especially on sundays…
german's don't get humor..i'm not sure if they even smile
Modern Family is funny
you know u r all dumb as hell. honestly I had no idea that show would come on so why would i watch it. i dont even know what channel it was or is supposed to be on. oh wait - i looked and guess what- its on a channel that started airing the exact same day that show was on. seriously - how is anyone supposed to watch it then…so you all just shut up - seriously
this show is one that u either love or hate.. no inbetweeners
Re: hehee –
And all Americans are fat, stupid and religious nutcases, right?
these comments have bothered me for a number of reasons. Having lived in Germany for two years I have learned among other things, most Germans (especially of the younger generation) do know English, it annoys me that someone (#10) would be so ignorant to say that they should "learn english, than it would be funny"…. I believe that would be a time to use "then" maybe you should practice up on your own english skills. Also, the Germans do have a sense of humor, although they may be sick of the whole Hoff thing, we should not even get into some of the imports who had at one time been popular in the US (ricky martin anyone?)
In defense of my own people all I can say is for anyone to make a generalization about Americans not learning any other language and how they are all loud and obnoxious is just about as ignorant as it gets. I mean, come on, there are 300,000 people in the United States. That is like saying everyone in Western Europe are techno loving club kids who are 10 years behind us when it comes to fashion. It's a vicious circle here people, can't we all just get along?
and finally, 30Rock is an amazingly funny and well written show. If it doesn't catch on in Germany I am going to have to agree with lulwhut on this one, the hilarity of Tracy Morgan can not be translated.
oops I meant 300 million, not 300,000. It's late.
Re: coocoosmith –
Only 45.7% are.
"Thanks" for comments like "Germans should learn English" or "they don't have a sense of humor". Some people think they already know how Germans are although they've never been to Germany before.
First, and it was already mentioned above, "30 Rocks" is aired on a digital channel so lot of people don't have access to it.
Second, a lot of Germans DON'T like Hasselhoff, me included. Dear Perez Hilton, maybe you should refrain from silly prejudices like this one.
Third, many Germans CAN speak and understand English, especially the younger ones. Sure, it also depends on the region. In East Germany (the former GDR) the older generations have difficulties with speaking English. But usually speaking and understanding English is not a problem for us (if there are some grammatical mistakes in my text, well, I'm not a native speaker;) ).
the thing is that hardly anyone can even watch the channel that show is on.the channel is new and you have to register for it but nobody is interested in the channel. so that is that.
and yeah, actually we have a lot of american shows on german tv, sadly we only get to see the dubbed versions.
Oh Perez, the joke about the Hoff is soooooo old and mentioned a gazillllion times.
Dont you have any other punchlines about Germans. Why not some lines about the new German Secretary of State, Guido Westerwelle who is openly GAY.
They don't understand the humor. They would watch it and go "HUH?"
Who in the world watches pay tv? There's already enough series, movies, sports and nudity on normal tv (oh wait.. not on the prude american tv)
we actually do understand english (includign the jokes) but of course, people who never been out of their own country can judge us. Definitly.
Plus. A nation that voted Bush a second time? Started the financial crash?
Erhm yeah, I am completly offenden by you. You guys (especially perez hilton) is definitly someone who can judge over other nations.
Btw. Who the fuck is Tina Fey and why should I be interested in that show?
The TV Channel that aired 30 Rock is new (ZDF Neo). In fact, 1st of November was its first day.
Only few people knew about this TV channel - And there were lessssss people who know that 30 Rock was aired.
The TV Channel that aired 30 Rock is really new in Germany (ZDF Neo)- In fact, 1st of November was its first day.
Only few people knew about this, and lessss people knew 30 Rock was aired there.
The average rating of this channel is 0.1
having lived there for 5+years, it's probably because they don't promote the heck out of shows like we do here in America. Also, comedies are hard to translate. Most of our comedies don't do very well over seas. The humor doesn't come across the same way. I'm sure that if the Germans speak English (which most do), they will just watch it in English!
well there was actually NO promotion of any kind made for it. tina fey is not as known here as she is in the US!
PLUS there are so many great movies released here at the moment that deserve even more attention, including a comedy featuring Til Schweiger!
Oh and: nobody here likes 'the hoff' as you call him. I don't know where that came from…
I love how most of the Germans who have commented on this post use better grammar than the North Americans who have commented. This is coming from a Canadian girl. We should be ashamed at our obviously lower education level to the general masses. See this first hand with Perez and his writer's grammar. They are supposed journalists. Pathetic!
aww peretzl, hating again on us germans? this is getting so lame.
fyi: all of the successfully running american tv shows (and we have quite a few) here in germany are getting dubbed, we don't get the original with just subtitles in german. so i have to agree with my previous writers: comedies are hell to translate & some of their original humor might be lost in the process and so it might not draw in a large crowd of viewers or come across as funny as it might be in english.
i consider myself a tv addict & i haven't seen any promotion for 30 rock on tv or else. i hadn't even heard of zdf neo before i read this thread.
i usually prefer watching 'your' shows in english, but i'm also a huge fan of the german synchronising business - these guys are doing a heck of a job most of the time and they got great dubbers with fantastic voices.
and the hoff? well, start apologizing for that right now, please! ^^
Perez…you are a SCHLAMPE!
I did not hear or read anything about "30 Rock" and I don't know a single person who has "ZDF Neo" here…
I never heard about that.
If they would show it on Pro7 or something I think many people would indeed watch it.
So, now go and hear your Tokio Hotel CD's, Perez.
Well, I love 30 Rock. but i didn't even know that is was on german television..:D
Maybe Germany isn't ready yet;-) We will see..
bottom line: perez, you need to shut the fuck up sometimes.
1. I've never ever seen ANY TV-Spot for the show or in something about it in ANY magazine - and I AM GERMAN!
2.: Most ppl in Germany don't know SNL. Only way for me 2 watch it is via the net.
3.: People under 23 don't know "The Hoff". It's another generation and they are so not interested in him.
4.: Inform yourself, before writing stuff which is so NOT correct!
Thanx
what!?!
they showed 30 Rock on sunday!?
WTF!?! I wanna watch it.
Where do they show it??
if it's just this 'ZDF neo' ir's understandable..
like.. NO ONE has this.. we don't either…
but.. really??
Germany, dear country I live in, why must you SUCK eggs??
damn perez, do some research!
at least germans do know that hitler is gone and berlin isn't split anymore. germans wonder what you guys learn in history…Re: ViolaRose – THANK YOU!!
Nobody mentioned that "30 Rock" was aired on a totally unown and unpopular TV Channel on it's relaunch!! Nobody in Germany is watching this TV channel because it ist not free tv and too bad to pay for it!
We buy the DVD's to watch it in the original version and don't wait for the dubbed version to be aired on free tv!!
(Only teeny Baywatch fans in the 90s heard "The Hoff".)
