This Is It Was A Disappointment

After being hyped to the extreme, the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It is selling pretty short.
The film made $20.7 million over the Halloween weekend, which was much less than Sony had expected. Paranormal Activity followed close behind with $16.6 million.
Sony execs apparently think that the initial talk of sold-out screenings during the pre-sale has kept fans from turning out to see the movie.
Seems like Sony was way off the mark when calculating the public interest.
Did U see This Is It? What did U think?

Madonna & GaGa: What You Didn't See On TV!

NO I WENT TO SEE STEPFATHER INSTEAD. NO CREEPY DADS EXPLOITING SOMEONE'S DEATH FOR MONEY THERE. ONLY CREEPY DADS TRYING TO KILL PEOPLE, WHICH REALLY I PREFER. =/
I saw it, it was amazing. Miss you Michael ;[
Loved it.
Hmmmmmm
No, I won't be giving one more penny to The greedy Jackson's, ever again.
I was never interested.
Didnt "This Is It" make $101,000,000(that's million btw) worldwide?? Doesnt sound like a disappointment to me!
I was one of millions who saw This Is It over the weekend. I thought it was freaking amazing and I wasn't alone. It was the #1 movie in America, Perez, so I am not sure WTF you're talking about. The big wigs bet $60 million on this being a hit and it made $101 million just this past weekend. How is that not a winning bet?
I have not seen it and i will not see it. Micheal Jackson creeps me out just as much now as he did when he was alive. I have no interest in his life or death and i dont know why some are.
I was never a Huge fan but did like his music growing up. I did see it with my niece and we both really enjoyed it. It showed a side of him that I never knew. It would have been an amazing concert that's for sure.
It was pretty awesome. I don't claim myself a huge fan of Michael Jackson, but after seeing this movie, he is no doubt one of the greatest entertainer in history. No one could inspire others like he did. Rest In Peace Michael.
$100 million worldwide Perez is AMAZING! Just think how many burgers you could buy with that..
Who is doing your reporting these days?
After its weak opening, it held up relatively well over the weekend (its legs were quite strong over its 5 days released so far). And Perez, you should also mention its worldwide gross.
In 5-days, it made $101M at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing concert-film of all-time. That's nothing to sneeze at, even if it was a tad lower than Sony's over-the-top predictions were at.
i was a HUGE MJ fan so of course i loved it. but is also showed a different side of him, which i really liked. the movie made me laugh, and sometimes even cry (and i NEVER cry during movies). it made me realize what a great loss this was for the world, and how some people took him for granted
A-W-E-S-O-M-E. enough said. rip MJ - one spectacular concert this was going to be
I'M GETTING THE DVD COPY FOR $2!! YEA, LET SOMEONE ELSE BENEFIT OTHER THAN THE JACKSON ESTATE FOR A CHANGE. JUST SAYIN.
101 MILLION WORLD WIDE IS NOT A DISAPPOINTMENT PEREZ!!!!
IT WAS AN AMAZING FILM. SO SAD HE WAS KILLED AND COULDNT PERFORM IT ALL. WHY DO YOU SAY IT WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT?
DID YOUR BOOK SELL 101 MILLION IN 5 DAYS ???????
No it may not have done as well as they thought but it's #1 so I would not call it a disappointment!
That old biddy Elizabeth said it was worthy of a Oscar, man she must have been taking her pain medication by the handful that day.
I think that this movie was life-changing! I have grown up hearing about how screwed up MJ was. I was never really exposed to the kind of person he really was. This movie helped me to see how genuine he was and how passionate he was about his work. I also no know how great Kenny Ortega is! I do not understand how Disney got him for the High School Musical series, he is a genious!!!!!!!!!
Didn't see it - never will.
the film is number one worldwide…it grossed about 30 million over 4 or 5 days in the u.s….it made 101 million worldwide…i don't understand the failure in that…i even heard that the two week run will be extended…i don't understand all of the mj hate/bias
If you would hane a look at the international figures, you would see a completely different stroy… the movie is a huge success and will easily top $200 million.
It was brilliant, as I would have expected.
According to a reputable site,(obviously NOT THIS ONE!) This Is It made 101 MILLION dollars! You are an asshole,Perez! You,or whoever is writing for you, better check your facts!
People…don't believe a friggen word written here! This is such bullshit!
Just another fucked up story about Michael, that's a LIE!
Remember the other one where he was faking his own death? UGH!
No I won't support anything Jackson. Let the man rest in peace and stop trying to make money off of him!
I thought it was good, even my husband liked it. He was very talented, extremely gifted and was involved in every aspect of his show. That man knew every note, tone and lyric for every instrument on all of his songs. Britney should watch it and take notes.
Saw it and the first 15 minutes was cool….basically kept repeating itself with same or similar material for different songs….I was struggling to sit through the whole thing.
No, I have no intention of seeing it, as it will be daddy dearest who will benefit most from this. That man can rot in hell.
You're an idiot. The film made over 100 million dollars and its run was extended. No wonder places like GossipCop.com have a field day with you.
my husband went to see it, he said it was so freaking boring.. and he is black, so thats saying something.
If that is your way of getting people to see it … what an ass you are … why didn't you write how much it earned worldwide within a wk and also write about the fact that it has been extended until Thanksgiving weekend. You are such a loser and a hater.
I mean that man is dead, his greedy family needs to stop milking whatever is left.
yeh lots of us got messed up as kids. didn't make me a peadophile
Re: Willys Bong – Even though you are an asshole - I actually laugh at your comment b/c of the pill reference … I swear Perez gets his buddies to write crap on here sometimes.
They should give away Happy Meals so little kids will go see it. If Michael was alive, he'd make sure that the seats would vibrate.
I saw it at the early showing yesterday and the theatre was packed. And it was Halloween weekend, so I don't think everyone was running out to see it. PS - $101 Million worldwide is pretty epic.
'
'
whatever, maybe i'd watch it on dvd- but people really dont care about MJ as much as his family and sony would like to believe…he was such a has been at the end if his life- yawn
'
'
I saw it & LOVED it…. FREAKING GENIUS he was!!
I never would have been able to make it to the concert, so I was happy to see the movie and see what I would have missed.
It seems to me that you're revelling in the fact that the movie is a disappointment….but it's not! Yes, it didn't break any major box office records but it still made it to no. 1 at the U.S. box office and it is doing GREAT overseas….i'm glad there are some people left in the world who can appreciate MJ's art for what it is… this movie is not about MJ's life or whether one likes him or not…it's about the sheer amount of talent, genius, dedication and hard work that went into creating what would have been the most mind-blowing concert series in the world … it puts the concerts of madonna, britney, lady gaga, JT and the likes to shame…and that's saying something
Yes! Absolutely loved it! Makes me want to work harder at everything I do.
that pisses me off >
it was amazing. really enjoyed it. it was interesting to see mj in his element.
I honestly don't know what Perez is thinking ? Uhmm 101 $ dollars worldwide thats sick ! And Each time i went it was sold out. Now we can see a perfect example that the press twists and turns the truth. Dissapointed in the headline. There was one true celebrity in America and that was Michael Jackson. Live with it!
Not sure how 20 mil is considered a disappointment, but whatever, Perez. I saw it at 3:45pm on a Sunday- not exactly the most popular day & time. The theater was packed. I loved the movie and definitely recommend it to every fan of Michael & every fan of music.
Yeah Perez, thats why its made over $100 million in five days, whats a failure. Get real Perez, on the news this morning they said that since it made so much in such a short amount of time that they are keeping it in theaters through thanksgiving weekend. I've seen it twice and I'll probally see it again. Plus, when the DVD comes out it'll be flying off the shelf. Perez is delusional, Michael has made $100 million in five days, thats more than Perez could probally make in a lifetime.
For the highest grossing documentary in history, I wouldn't call it a disappointment. And the fact that Sony decided to extend it's running until Thanksgiving doesn't sound like a disappointment either.
I may be wrong but to me, a disappointment is having a tour with almost nobody in the audience and nobody wanting to "extend" the concerts…just like the Perez Hilton Tour which was an epic failure not long ago!!
I saw it and it was good. MJ was a genius and still had a lot of energy and talent. He looked very excited about his tour which would have been wonderful, and i do not where are you getting that "dissapointment " info because many sources are saying that is the number 1 movie in the USA…
PerezHilton= Loser
Yes, and it was incredible!!!!!! I will see it again and again and again, and if it ever comes out on DVD I will purchase it and watch it again and again and again. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!
NO disappointment here.
Not sure why anyone would see anything about this loser. But perez it made over $100,000,000 world wide and since its release over $32,000,000 in the USA. Michael Jackson always did better overseas. This is no failure. It is the top grossing doc. of all time. You are not a very smart person perez. You do not seem to understand the simplest concepts.
I dont want to see it!
saw it on opening day…loved ittt, it was amazing…sad at the end though
It made $ 21.3 million, and the cummulative is around the 32.5 million in the USA. What a disapointment right perez???!!! MJ still rules!!!
perez why must you always spin things negatively THIS IS IT did pretty damn well WORLD WIDE grossing $101 million in five days I don't call that dissipointing at all.
yea i liked it. but it was just rehearsal footage so he was kinda half-dancing, half-singing and he was still better than most of the artists out there. it was really good overall, i just wished they showed more of his jokester side.
perez only calls it a dissapointment cause it beat his precious madonnas moive. oh yea and beat out tickets for new moon. i hardly call 101 million a flop. i'll get the dvd. i did watch it online and it was cool.
Re: Lisa W a Lil L – um, people do care about MJ, but no one is rushing to see this movie because MJ himself did not sponsor for the release of this movie…the greedy executives of sony are the ones putting it out there. dont forget, trick, that he did sell out within two hours 50 concert dates in london to over a million people. and this movie proves he wasnt a has-been, he still got it. you sound just like some of those judgmental americans who cant see past his oddities and recognize god-given talent.
I want[ed] to. I'm just busy & I don't have time.
i absolutely loved it !!!!! i started dancing with my friend in front of everyone haha
is it just me or does it seem like PEREZ hates on MJ a little too much..the movie is numbr one and they are extending its run…sounds like a hit to me…
ps: i saw it and i am going to see it again…pre-ordered the DVD…Michael Jackon was truly a gift!!
sony shouldnt hyped it up so much, but damn, that wouldve been a helluva concert.
The movie was AMAZING!
AMAZING!!
stop lying perez.
HOW THE HELL IS IT A DISAPPOINTMENT. it made over 100 million world wide. perez stop being so ignorant
i saw it and it's amazing, everyone should see it
I seen it and thought it was great. I thought it might be stupid and not much to it. That wasn't the case. I think this was going to be his best tour yet. There was a lot of detail going into this show. He still was able to do all his moves. I will be buying the DVD. Body of an 80yr old man my ass.
You are making a complete Fool out of yourself! Perez !
This is it! made over $101Million - this weekend! Get over yourself and stop spreading lies about the movie.
We have not forgotten - what you wrote on June 25th
I'll watch it on dvd some day. not something I would run to the cinema for.
perez, as much as i love you, i'm pretty sure this movie made $100 mill world-wide… so before you start posting things to your site, you might want to get your facts straight
Loved it.
He still had it!!
I saw it two times!
then why do I keep hearing that it's the number one movie worldwide and it made $100 mil??
Re: Elle086 – What you are saying is totally true! I read the same thing!
I saw it and loved it. I think this movie overall will make more money. Especially when the DVD comes out. I plan on buying the DVD. I do think SONY is 'pimping' it too hard. I saw an advertisement for it in REDBOX. RIP MJ!!!!!!!
dont care about it.
paranormal activity wasnt number 1 again just because is was playing in 1000 less screens than this is it.
Why don't you mention that it made $101 million worldwide?
I saw it Friday and thought it was amazing on every level. The theatre wasn't very busy, there were quite a few high-schoolers there watching it also.
Re: MJBambino – he may have found it boring cuz he didnt understand it prolly never saw a concert and had any interest in the makings of a really big show. Michael jackson was a technical genius and he's right he might find the complicated mind boring cuz you dont understand it.
Perez is a fucking hater who never did like MJ, which is no surprise to me that he always attempts to speak bad of him ever chance he get's. Fucking disgusting fat piece of lard!
!!!!!!!!PEREZ YOU REALLY SHOULD REPORT THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!! saying stuff like this should be considered slander since so many ppl prescribe to your blog. but i know why you did this so you could get all these responses 'right?'. sure im right.
Well I was shocked that they advertised so much. That picture is literally everywhere you look in Los Angeles. The reactions to the posters made me think no one would see the movie, so I was shocked when it was #1 on IMDB. It did better than I predicted. I can't explain why I don't have interest in seeing it. It's sad, it might be too soon. If they had waited and built it up some sort of other way, maybe the entire planet would have shown support but this was just bad timing in my eyes.
i saw it. loved it. i think with it being halloween weekend parents would rather take kids trick r treating. the movies gonna be out longer now so it will get more people watching. plus, im sorry, here in the states mjs not very beloved
I went online & bought tix a month in advance to go first day…only about 10 other people were in the theater. We were suprised, but movie is definitely worth seeing. Heavily edited, but moments of brilliance.
Doubt he could have made it through 50 concerts, but so sad he didn't even have a chance…why haven't they arrested that Dr. yet?
" "Michael Jackson's This Is It" pulled in $101 million worldwide in its first five days, and distributor Sony is extending the farewell performance film beyond its planned two-week run.
The film was the No. 1 Halloween thriller domestically with a $21.3 million opening weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The previous weekend's No. 1 movie, Paramount's low-budget horror sensation "Paranormal Activity," slipped to No. 2 with $16.5 million, lifting its total to $84.8 million.
"This Is It" raised its domestic total to $32.5 million. The movie pulled in $68.5 million overseas, including $10.4 million in Japan, $6.3 million in Germany, $5.8 million in France and $3.2 million in China.
"He's just loved everywhere on the planet," said Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony. "It doesn't matter if it's Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, South America. Every continent in the world loved him and his music."
In Great Britain, where Jackson had planned a marathon series of 50 London concerts starting last July, the movie earned $7.6 million. "
HOW ABOUT YOU TELL THE WHOLE STORY, MARIO?!
"They bet $60 million on this and got $101 million in just five days," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. "It was a gamble and a bet that paid off."
im sick of your one sided "reporting," its one thing to have an opinion, its quite another to leave out important details to sway the story the way you want!
i'll be seeing it this week.
We went to the AMC and the 9:30 and 10pm showings (in a theatre that holds 400) only had 17 people (9:30) and 1 person(10pm)
Last Thursday in Ontario…
I loved it!! It just confirmed how amazing he really was. I am just sad we will never get a chance to see the final show. Such a sad ending to the King of Pop!!
It was amazing and I have to disagree with everyone saying they don't want to see it because of the greediness. These people worked so hard and there was so much money involved in making this huge tour that it was beneficial for them to make a movie because that way their efforts weren't made in vain. It was breathtaking. I wanted to stand up and cheer at the end.
Saw it! I liked it, but as much as I wanted to see it, I felt like a sell-out because I think his brothers are pathetic and looking to make a buck on it too. The ridiculous Jackson promo for their new reality show on A&E…SHAMELESS! I just really wanted to see him one last time. I bet the actual show would have been awesome had he lived to perform them. But, unfortunately, he was surrounded by free-loaders and crooks who made sure that he wasn't going to be around for his children.
Re: theclass – You didn't miss anything, the concert never happened…
I refuse to see a concert that never happened…$101 million? Sounds like 101 million idiots in the world!!….lol
well there is next weekend which is suppose to be the end of the two weeks only. i do know that MANY san francisco theaters are sold out for that weekend. i don't know what people were expecting but i saw it twice and WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. michael was on his game. he was comfortable and in charge when on stage. too bad that couldn't carry over to his personal life. entertainers like this are few and far between. a big loss.
i hope he has now found his peace.
DOESNT SUPRISE ME THAT PEREZ IS HATING
AFTERALL PEREZ HILTON DID POST THAT MICHAEL JACKSON FAKED HIS DEATH, AND THEN DELETED IT TO COVER UP HIS SORRY A$$
MAYBE HE NEEDS ANOTHER BLACK EYE TO SHUT THE F##K UP
was ok. but was a long movie and only showed the prep for his concert. was ok but long and no action.
Oh please Perez… it's so obvious you're still an MJ-hater. Why don't you mention the film made over $100M worldwide?
"Hollywood reporter" reports that "This is it" is supposed to stay in theater at least til Thankgiving. I loved the movie. We miss you Michael ! Awesome.
Actually, it has grossed over $100M in its first 5 days, which is pretty incredible. The movie, itself, was amazing - it not only reminded me of Michael's true talent as a performer (despite the incessant media scrutiny that invaded much of his life), but also that he was a human being…and a rather likable one at that.
I did and it was amazing, he was truly a gifted man! RIP MJ
i enjoyed it! he was a talented performer and it would have been awesome for him to make his comeback!
