This Is It Was A Disappointment

this-is-it-poster1__opt.jpg

After being hyped to the extreme, the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It is selling pretty short.

The film made $20.7 million over the Halloween weekend, which was much less than Sony had expected. Paranormal Activity followed close behind with $16.6 million.

Sony execs apparently think that the initial talk of sold-out screenings during the pre-sale has kept fans from turning out to see the movie.

Seems like Sony was way off the mark when calculating the public interest.

Did U see This Is It? What did U think?

Perez once again does not know what he is talking about. The movie grossed 100+ million Worldwide just over the weekened. The $20.7 million you are talking about Perez was just on Friday! Idiot.

    3. 103

$20.7 million on Friday night in the United States alone. $100+ million Gross Worldwide.

    4. 104

what do you mean disappointment? 101 mil sounds good to me!!
      anddd it was good

    5. 105

I saw it! It was amazing! I think this is exactly what people needed to see in order to start thinking of him as a real human being. It was also very exciting to see him at work. Watching a genius do what he does best is indescribable.

      RIP MJ

    6. 106

what is it with perez and talking shit about mj, you did enough of it before he died now when everyone else is reporting it as a sucess, you say its a dissapointment.

are you being bitter perez? disappoinment? it already gross $101m in just 5 days and it surpass the holder of the most grossing concert film of all time (hanna montana) obviously, This is it grabs the crown! Sony paid $60m and now they get almost double, and to mind you, the movie is not over yet!
And can you please stop writing rubbish?

      108

"disappoinment?????" are you kidding me perez? what the hell are you talking about? you're the only one who said that! it gross $101m in just five days and still counting!

    9. 109

Don't believe the hype!!! the interest in MJ was always blown up anyway, prior to his death he was pretty much a has been

    10. 110

I loved it. I think this concert would have amazing. So bittersweet.

      miss-u-michael

    11. 111

I saw the movie and it may not have been all it was hyped up to be but if you are an MJ fan you will definitely appreciate it. It showed how he interacted with the crew and how he considered everyone family. It showed his "save the earth" side which I absolutely love and it also showed that this concert would have been amazing and one of the best performances ever. It just made me wish he was still around.

    12. 112

i saw it and it was incredible!

Re: Lilo lagoon – Actually, this is something that interests me. If you take average ticket prices into account, 32.5 million means that only 3.5 million Americans were big enough fans/fanatics to bother to go see the film in the first five days. Worldwide that means only 10 million fans felt the need to see The King of Pop one more time. I am not taking away from any of the film's accomplishments but the number of fans seems small. These numbers will seriously decline in the coming weeks. It may very well not make 100 million domestically.

    15. 115

Ummm. Why are you trying to put a negative spin on 100 mil?

Re: NoMoreDrama – I am all for correcting PH when he is wrong and he should have posted the film's international success, but you are in error stating the film made 21+ million in America on Friday only. It made just under 8 million in America on Friday. My sources are Entertainment Weekly. c o m and Box Office Guru. c o m. If I am in error and you have a source to support your Friday figure, please let me know.

    17. 117

No Way Would I Pay to see this.
I would not give this family of Freaks a dime!!!

    18. 118

I saw it and it was SPECTACULAR !

    19. 119

Re: SilverSwirl – well bitch obviously ppl do care about him seeing the movie sold over 101 million dollars .
Re: LzBth – you can rot in hell also then .
Re: luperdiga – what does your husband being black have to do with the movie ?

    20. 120

Re: former M fan – ok and who are you ? he may have been a has been but your nothing so stop hating .

    21. 121

      it was amazing
showed the world how amazing mj's mind was though he never got a chance to show it

    22. 122

i can see how half of hollywood went to see it, but, i dont think majority of people want to go see this especially for halloween weekend….scary movies ftw

    23. 123

Not sure what you are talking about…it took #1 at the box office. Personally it feels exploitative to make a movie out of the rehearsals of a show of someone who OD'd, but to each his own.

    24. 124

it made over $100 million not $20 million. i don't know where you are getting this misinformation from.

    25. 125

People like Perez is what caused Michael to be the way he was. This movie made 101 million dollars, more money that Perez's sorry ass will ever see. I bet if this was Lady Gaga Perez would be promoting this shit. NOT A FAIlURE, 101 MILLION is not a Fail!!!!!!!!!!

    26. 126

      Re: BIOTCHH
he was killed? nah grl. nah

    27. 127

god why cant we stop hearin about this weirdass hes dead already right so why cant we forget he even existed as we should my lorddd

    28. 128

Re: majorhawty – your never gonna forget he existed simply because you get on perez's website and type michael jackson's name in the starseeker box !

    29. 129

I have seen it twice and plan on seeing it again before it is done! No matter what you think of his family or Michael Jackson, you realize a true talented man is no longer around for anyone to appreciate. It is sad

    42. 142

i won't give my money for the greedy sony people and jackson mafia family. no way. and i'm bored of jackson! sorry! leave him alone for christ's sake. they release a thousand of compilations DVD and now a movie-rehearsal! cmon!

    43. 143

perez - you're SO FCKING PATHETIC
First off, the facts. Michael Jackson's This Is It grossed $32.5 million in five-days, which gives it a surprisingly high 4.4x multiplier on its $7.4 million opening Wednesday. It's three-day weekend take was $21 million, more than enough to be number 01 for the weekend. In just five days, the $60 million acquisition has become the third-highest grossing concert film of all time, behind the $65 million gross of Hanna Montana: Best of Both Worlds and the alleged (via many releases) $50 million gross of 1970's Woodstock. Internationally, Sony is claiming a $101 million debut session. This Is It is now the highest-grossing concert film of all time in just five days, easily eclipsing the $71 million worldwide total of the 3D Hanna Montana film. This is a rock-solid debut, no matter what Nikki Finke tries to tell you.

    44. 144

THIS DOCUMENTARY MADE OVER 100 MILLION DOLLARS SINCE THE RELEASE, AND YOU THINK IS A FAILURE…. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU????

Re: helen2009 – yes i actually read that on contactmusic.com also, but you know perez…..!!!!

    46. 146

Re: ainaazizi – my husband said the same thing. he wasn't a huge fan of michael's and really didn't want to see the movie. now he says the movie was awesome and he never realized what a great performer he was. now he agrees with me that michael is a legend. king of pop!

    47. 147

perez–sometimes i wonder where you get your info. and why so negative all the time? to say this is it is a disappointment is ridiculous. just because YOU don't care for the movie doesn't make it a bomb.

    48. 148

i def saw it. i LOVED it. but i did feel he shud of played way more songs than that. but i still LOVED it.
