And the critics are arguing whether or not he was any good!
Michael Jackson recites his original poem "Planet Earth" on the This Is It album - and reviews are ranging from "unsophisticated but poignant" to "vapid" to "consider yourself warned."
Quite a mixed bag!
Here's the poem in its entirety:

A capricious anomaly in the sea of space

We think it's kind of sweet and tend to agree with the review that it's "hokey at times, but there is a childlike quality that emerges after a few listens."

Songwriting is a lot like poetry, so why is this so surprising?
I think it's pretty lame how most people taunted MJ when he was alive, after all the sex abuse claims. Now that he's dead everyone wants to love him. He could have used that love when he was alive people!
I think its beautiful. In THIS IS IT, the movie, he explains how much he loves earth and mother nature and you can tell he was passionate about making the world better, and I think this poem is from the heart. About the childlike quality, I agree, he reminded me a of a child at times in some of the interviews he did and theres also a point in the movie THIS IS IT where he reminds me so much of a child because of nice and attentive and innoccent he was.

Michael's second book called Dancing The Dream is a collection of his poems and reflections, which I'm proud to have owned since I was young. Him being a poet is nothing new.
Love his poetry! Being a writer myself, he's one of my inspirations- not just as a singer and dancer, but if you read his book of writings, "Dancing the Dream" you'll find he's got a very creative mind. I wish people would look past all of the media and see how intelligent this man was! RIP MJ!

Why does everyone think that describing a man that was fifty years old as "child like" is endearing and not gross. Every time anybody describes him as a person or in this case this poem, its "child like". Isn't that a bit disturbing?

I think this poem's beautiful, and simply put together- that's why it's childlike..but it gets a message across..it's lovely. Whatever michael created was art. classic art.

It's a shame that your only taking out the time to realize such things now that he is no longer here. Have you ever heard of the book titled "Dancing the Dream?" There are alot of other poems (including this one) that Michael worked on that are in this book. His talents knew no bounds…. Almost every song he wrote and almost every poem that he created was a message to us all to make a change and help others. He was also a great artist.

Unfortunately he wasn't able to help himself with the same advice he was giving others. What is that called? Some of you are being too fanatic bordering on obsessed. So now we have to go out and buy a book because it has poetry? haha If you write songs that rhyme you are a poet. I see why the comments of child like came about and why some people are not sold on his level of poetry. It is Child like, very basic using some overly used word play and lacking depth or real thought provoking insight. That's is my opinion.

Re: Dynamixx – The last time I checked fan is short for fanatic. I am a Michael Jackson FAN and that is why I appear on Michael Jackson post, what is your excuse? Everything Michael did for others was out of L.O.V.E. His lyrics spoke about helping others and giving back and he did practice what he preached so I don't know where "Unfortunately he wasn't able to help himself with the same advice he was giving others" is coming from? Michael was disected by the media and by extorters when all he was trying to do was help, and though people didn't understand all the greatness he was doing for others it still never stopped him from giving back. Hello??? the man passed away and in his will he left money to the same charities that he had supported his whole life. And no one is telling you to go out and buy the book smartness, I was merely bringing to Perez and any one else's attention the fact that "Dancing the Dream" has been out there for all to see for years. Michael was child-like and there was nothing wrong with that. Possesing that quality is what makes one humble, understanding, and less concerned about the things that tend to get adults into trouble (Greed being one of them.)
