There goes our opening musical number!
The news that the unlikely duo will be hosting the biggest night in film was announced to mixed reactions. But Bill Mechanic, a producer of the Oscar show says that the matchup is a "spirit du combat."
In other words, the most elegant evening of the awards season is going to be turned into a farce for ratings.

We're sure the pair will spend most of the time playfully bantering about who is doing a better job hosting, or who is better suited for Meryl Streep (they both star in an upcoming movie with Meryl in which they each vie for her affections), so we think we'll be snoozing through most of the show this year.
Now, if Adam Shankman can find a way to throw in a musical number for us, then we'll reconsider!

I like it, but why two hosts?! They've already tried that concept and it failed. And it's kind of an insult to Alec and Stephen because apparently they're not funny enough by themselves.

Um, moron, both Alec and Steve are incredibly musical.
So, obviously you've never seen one of the gajillion times Alec has hosted SNL or anything that Steve Martin has ever done. If you had then you would have looked at those names and instantly thought of a huge, over the top, hillarious musical number. It'll be great.
You won't be happy until they tap Richard Simmons to host will you? Give them a chance.

Wow I did not know this news. You most have been the first one to report it. Except for every other news agency yesterday. Dual host on award shows usually sucks. Steve Martin would be fine by himself.
