    Don't give up.
    .
    It WILL HAPPEN.
    .
ONE DAY THERE WILL BE EQUALITY FOR ALL.

  2. 2

THE "PEOPLE" HAVE SPOKEN! It's a beautiful day in America!

  3. 3

THE "PEOPLE" HAVE SPOKEN. It's a BEAUTIFUL day in AMERICA!

  4. 4

    dammit maine wtf

  5. 5

I fucked up my own post. LOL. I need more coffee. To continue: folks may vote us down but we are not going anywhere. We are everywhere in your daily lives. So, the joke is really on the anti gay people.

  6. 6

I live in Maine and I was woken up with texts from friends telling me to wear black (if same-sex marriage was rejected then wear black to school). Words cannot describe how I felt. I hate Maine. Fuck it.

    But this is not over.

  7. 7

    =(

  8. 8

So, so, so sad! I was very hopeful about this vote.
    .
I'm so sorry to everyone in Maine who voted for equality, and those who only want to be allowed to have the right to marry the person they love.
    .
One day, hopefully very soon, America will have equal rights for all its gay citizens!

  9. 9

What is outrageous is that any state allows the people to decide what is *best* for the minority. Pure craziness that the voting population decides who gets what rights and who doesn't. Maybe some day it will be their rights up for a vote. I can't wait.

  10. 10

The campaign in Maine was fueled by fear and ignornance. In the end, it just denies a group of people from living a happy life. So sad.

  11. 11

You should know by now anything you back fails. Tough luck again douchebag.

  12. 12

    53% to 47%
    clearly this isn't over

  13. 13

Im pissed. I voted but to no avail… im ashamed to live here! Stupid religious redneck pricks… :( Further down south we were killin it, but up north the A-holes were out in full swing.
Atleast the medical Marijuana act passed :)

  14. 14

Genitals and chromosomes dont fall in love… people do :(

  15. 15

A little dishonest there, huh fatboy? Maine has followed in the footsteps of every state that has had a vote on deviant marriage. 31 for 31. Everytime a court or judge tries to push that shit on the people, the people vote it down. Congrats to the people of Maine on standing up for common decency.

Why do 90% of gay people have such baggage in their background. I know tons of gay people — well — and they all didn't have a dad or they were abused or neglected etc… Ellen Degeneres — Dad was abusive and left family, Rosie O'D — Mom died when she was young and Dad was never around, Elton John — Dad left and raised by a very strict stepfather he never loved… The list goes on and on…..

  17. 17

    fuck you, maine.

  18. 18

Re: A Voice of Sanity – You are disgusting. It in no way affects your sad, pathetic life if two men or two women are married in your state!

  19. 19

you have civil unions..get over it…marriage obviously means a lot to heterosexual people and they're not going to budge…you're wasting a lot of time and money when you already have equality with civil unions

  20. 20

Excellent show of common sense and morals

  21. 21

From someone who lives in Maine….I'm ashamed and sad.

  22. 22

Re: hellabria – Tha marijuana act should pass but the shoving your dick where it doesn't belong act definitely shouldn't. Hurray for Maine!

  23. 23

I voted No on 1 (for same sex marriage). It saddens me that the majority in maine would vote it down..

  24. 24

    That sucks :(
I feel bad for all the homosexuals who thought they could marry now.
wth is wrong with the people who voted against it?

  25. 25

I voted No on one. I was very upset to see that my fellow Mainers couldn't see beyond their ignorance. To all that voted for equality I applaud you, to those who didn't, I am ashamed.

  26. 26

Thank God the people have spoken. Get over it!!!

  27. 27

    Sad day in Maine.

  28. 28

Today, I am truly ashamed to be a Mainer.

I was one vote in the 47 percent of people who made the right choice. One vote of the thousands that know that personal judgements based on religious beliefs should not affect other people's rights.

  29. 29

kinda sad really. don't even live in america but i don't understand why it should bother people what other people do. if two people want to be together, it isn't anyone's business to get involved. BTW Isaac, giving three examples proves nothing, there are plenty of people who are gay who don't have baggage, just the same as there are heterosexual people with baggage.

this is democracy at it's best and worst. the people get the vote, but sometimes, it would seem, they don't make an informed decision, but just go on incorrect prejudices.

  30. 30

This is pathetic. Why do we allow this to be up for a vote anyways. If we voted on whether or not to allow slavery today, some people would still vote for it. Some states may even have the majority. If we voted to keep interracial marriages, some majorities would dismiss it as "being bad for our kids" and "they don't last." Take this to the supreme court and once the court realizes that 1. the US has a separation of church and state 2. Every person has equal rights 3. This is purely unconstitutional. We will then have equal rights. To all you who votes yes on 1, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

Re: isaac – and there are also straight people who were abused and neglected as children. being abused and neglected doesnt make someone gay. i have awesome heterosexual married parents, and im gay. was your comment supposed to be an excuse for being anti-gay??

  32. Paty says – reply to this

    32

    This is just sad! :(

  33. 33

I AM FOR gay marriage, but I am also for it to be voting on by the people. It's sad that they didn't vote they way we would have liked them, but I still believe in the voting process.

  34. 34

Fucking disgusting. How does gay marriage impact non-gay marriage, negatively OR positively? Oh wait, IT DOESN'T. AT ALL.

  35. 35

Pure ignorance and bigotry. GAY PEOPLE DESERVER EQUAL RIGHTS!!! CIVIL UNIONS EXCLUDE 1,300 PROTECTIONS THAT STRAIGHT PEOPLE GET!!! NOT FUCKING FAIR!!!

  36. 36

i had a feeling that was going to happen.

  37. 37

    move to Canada =)

  38. 38

“The people have spoken". You have to love that phrase. Imagine where we'd be today if we used that phrase in regard to other CIVIL rights issues: 1840: Don't like slavery? Sorry, the people have spoken. 1910: So you think women should be able to vote? Sorry, the people have spoken. 1950: You think black children should have access to the same quality of education as white children? Sorry, the people have spoken. 1960: A black man & a white woman getting married? Sorry, the people have spoken. Preventing people of the same sex from marrying each other is OK because these people can choose to marry someone of the opposite sex. By that same logic, it would be acceptable to prevent interracial marriage on the grounds that people of one race can always choose to marry someone of the same race. The gay community & those against the discrimination of minorities will continue to fight for CIVIL rights for all.

  39. 39

People need to get informed… every time there is a gay marriage issue put to voters, it gets voted down. It is the states where the legislature passes the law with no vote - that is where it sticks. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY DO NOT BELIEVE IN GAY MARRIAGE! People who go on Perez HIlton or hang out with gay people, they want it. But that is not the majority. Why do you think Obama won't touch this with a ten foot pole - he wants to get elected again! It may not be right, but that is how it is. Maybe another 20 years it may happen across the board, but not yet. Still too new.

  40. 40

Hellabria… please do some research. "Down south they are killing it but up North the A-holes are in full swing"? All the states that allow gay marriage are in North East (and Iowa I believe)!! "Progressive" California voted it down. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN THE SOUTH… NEVER! The majority of people in this country are not yet ready. Maine is a great place to live, just do your homework!

  41. 41

congratulations MAINE. GOOD FOR YOU. AND I'M GAY.

  42. 42

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA….*catching breath*….HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  43. 43

What a difference a year makes. Perez, you get what you wished for, however BAM has not delivered . FBO FBO FBO

  44. 44

    Re: kitty9

Personally, I'm all in favor of the "it's none of your fucking business what goes on between consenting adults, so don't try to turn the country into a theocracy" act.

  45. 45

WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!? I love the country I live in, but I'm starting to think that if I were gay, I'd be packing up & moving to Canada or a more open country…."Land of the free…" indeed. Don't get me wrong, I love almost everything about this country; EXCEPT THIS SHIT!

  46. 46

Re: JerZGirl52285 – You do realise they DON'T even have civil unions?

  47. 47

    Re: JerZGirl52285

Civil Unions aren't equal, idiot. Not even all domestic partnership laws are equal. States are still fighting over whether or not same-sex couples deserve the same set of rights.

  48. 48

I said yesteray they would. There are too many ole' timers here!

  49. 49

First of all I’m disappointed by the outcome and worry that anti-gay groups are going to use this as propaganda to say that gay marriage has been voted down coast to coast. First of all this wasn’t a Presidential election year and voter turnout was extremely low. The Obama coalition also didn’t come out in droves. Typically in mid-term elections older people vote and clearly they aren’t as liberal on issues like gay rights. I also am troubled by the fact that all the money to fight this was coming from out of state, have you seen much came from an anti gay Christian groups in New Jersey to try to overturn marriage equality in Maine? It’s troubling that the domestic partnership rights vote in Washington state was extremely close yet passed. Many Republicans claim to be in favor of domestic partnerships and clearly that's bs. They SAY that to appease people who want full marriage equality yet yesterday they had the opportunity to practice what they preach and it didn't reflect in the total vote count. I also think the anti-marriage groups are on the losing side of history, look how much things have changed in the last 10 years, once our grandparents generation dies off it's going to be a much different world. Regardless what people say or think gay marriage will be here some day. People that don’t recognize that are just as ignorant as those that were opposed to equal rights for women and minorities.

  50. 50

This shouldn't even be a voting matter. The majority voting on the rights of a minority? It makes no sense. Everyone deserves equal rights. Allowing people to vote on whether we have equal rights or not is ridiculous. Personally, I think the government should get rid of marriage, give it to the church so they can do with it what they want, and then create a partnership law that applies to any two legally consenting adults. If you want to be "married", go through the church. Let's privatize marriage.

  51. 51

Re: JSAMFAN – YOU are a fucking idiot. Each "example" you state, the MAJORITY allowed for the change. You think blacks voted IN the civil rights changes?? You think women voted for the right to vote?? You dumb fuck. The voting rights act was approved by MEN. The civil rights act was approved by WHITE MEN. People see this for what it is. No one wants you homo's getting married. NO ONE. You just don't get it. WE don't like or want YOUR kind. PERIOD.

  52. 52

I am a straight female with 3 kids been married for 7 years. I was hearbroken at the turn out of this ballot. I hope we are on the right track of understanding what equality is realy about, but I am afraid it will take a while. Don't give up the fight!!! There are manyof us who support this bill, we need to keep trying. As far as "Marriage is for men and women" that is a load of crap. Marriage is about love. When the world is filled with men and women who actually stand by their vows and what marriage is meant to be, then maybe that line could be used. Just in Maine alone there are so many failed marriages, cheaters and beaters. why can't the world understand it is about love?

It's nice to know that there are still some people who want to preserve marriage between a man and a woman. Yeah for America!!!!

  56. 56

Marguerite Yourcenar is rolling in her grave. Does anyone here even know who Yourcenar was? Didn't think so. Desperate website…

  57. 57

    seriously sucks!!!

  58. 58

YES!!!!!! This should be a sign for everyone. It says in the Bible that God created Adam and Eve…NOT Adam and Steve. It's a GREAT victory for America!!! Hold true to your morals and ethics!!!!!!

  59. 59

    I'm disappointed in my home state… :(

  60. 60

Woo - my vote counted! Yay for Maine and the other 31 states!

As far as Poindexter - these things have nothing to do with people BEING gay. has to do with them wanting to use the word MARRIAGE.

As such, the people, who vote these things down, don't agree with marriage.

If you guys would change the terms of your legal requests for laws, so you would get equal rights, but not use the word marriage, you would go a lot further…but you guys refuse to back off the word, thus, people don't like it, thus, you will lose.

  61. 61

Re: JSAMFAN – You're a retard. You're aware that constitutional amendments have to be voted in, right? Thus, by the people.

  62. 62

    Want REAL Freedom?
    .
CANADA would be the place, NOT the USA :(

  63. 63

hellscream is right.. Its not about gays having equal rights.. I could care less what they do.. However.. marriage is for a man&woman.. not two men or two woman.. (just my opinion). If you really believe that the people of ME are going to actually vote this in you are crazy! It will never fly there.. And it shouldnt.. Just deal with it!

  64. 64

    Re: Wrenn

Marriage being reserved for a man and woman only is over.
    .
    .
    .
If you want to live in an uber-religious country that suppresses human rights, I've heard Iran is lovely this time of year. AND! Iran supposedly doesn't even have gays! Score one for you!

  65. 65

    Re: JerZGirl52285

Civil unions are NOT the same thing as marriage. That is ignorant to say. It is not equality to allow some people to marry and some not. This is the very same argument that people used when African American people were segregated and forced to go to different schools, not allowed to use the same bathrooms, etc. It is wrong to treat a group of people differently because of race or sexual preference. Saying they are treated the same does not make it so.

If marriage really meant so much to people, the divorce rate would be much lower. People would not cheat on their spouses.

People are inherently afraid of change. I say give it time. Someone mentioned earlier about slavery, giving women right to vote, etc. People were very much against changing those things at first, and I think gay marriage will be the same.

Personally, I think it's crazy for the government (or anyone in general) to care about who is marrying who. It won't affect you in any way. No one is saying YOU have to marry a same-sex person. But who gives YOU the right to tell ANYONE that they are not allowed to?

  66. 66

I think all just vote the opposite of what Perez "so sad" Hilton wants.

  67. 67

    Re: 85Nitro26

Clearly you're gay too. What's with all these closet gays masquerading as christians?

  68. 68

    Re: HellscreamGold

    Separate is not equal.

  69. 69

    Re: 85Nitro26

Church and state are supposed to be separate. Not every religion believes that gay marriage is wrong. So why are we all forced to submit to beliefs that are not our own?

  70. 70

Americans are behind the rest of the world in same-sex acceptance.
    Shame on us.
It will happen one day .. be patient .. change is so slow.
Someday we will look back and regret our resistance.

  71. 71

Re: dabears – CT voted in favor of it long ago, so not EVERY state has voted No.

  72. 72

    BOOOOOOOOOO!!! Small minds have spoken!

Help make a difference! Make a donation/donationS to the LGBT!

  73. 73

I just want someone here to give me a legitimate argument as to how same-sex marriage affects traditional marriage. Most people say that they don't care what gay people do. this is obviously not true. yes tradition shows that in the past marriage has been between a man and a women, but society changes and the laws and right should change as well.

  74. 74

TWO OF THE MOST LIBERAL STATES IN THE UNION DIDN'T PASS IT, NOT LOOKING TOO HOPEFUL.

  75. 75

    :)

  76. 76

I don't understand why people are calling out ignornance. I believe it's people who do that who are the ignorant ones to be honest. Everyone has a right to there own, not everyone has to be up with the gays. I have a step sister who is gay and if I still lived in the state of Maine I would've voted YES, I do believe marriage is to be between and man and a women and no other.

Hellabria- You clearly aren't too disappointed by where you live because if you really were then you wouldn't be living a state of "stupid redneck hicks".

I really think you people should just get over it and move on with your life. Big deal gays can't marry each other, it's amazing how ignorant people really are these days. Just be happy that you live in America period, it could be A LOT WORSE..

  77. tasha says – reply to this

    77

Better get used to it perezpuss. So far every state that has put it to the people to vote, and thats about 31 now, have voted against it. The only time it's passed is whey the legislature of the state passed it and then it didn't go to the people of the state to vote.

  78. abrim says – reply to this

    78

It was SO close though. In the beginning of the vote it was 52% for gay marriage and 48% against but it just slipped to 53% against and 47% for. Maine is a very liberal state but there are bigots everywhere, we failed, and for that I am so so sorry. Trust me, it is a VERY sad day in Maine.

  79. 79

Re: Lovely3227 – "Just be happy that you live in America period, it could be A LOT WORSE.. " dumbest comment I've heard! just because things could be a lot worse doesn't mean you shouldn't fight for them to get better. THINGS CAN ALWAYS BE WORSE!

  80. 80

Re: tasha – Passed by a very narrow margin. It is only a matter of time.

  81. 81

    Re: rachel182

This country was founded by Christians. OUr historic documents were written by Christians.

Don't blame me that people shot down the gay marriage. Do I have a problem with gays? No. However, I do NOT and CAN NOT support a marriage of the same sex.

  82. 82

    Re: lau115ren

Awww. Resorting to name calling? Doesn't hurt a bit. This country was founded by Christians with the same beliefs that are evident today. Don't like it? Get the fuck out of the USA. I don't mind gays. I just don't support a marriage between the same sex. GET OVER IT!

  83. 83

Marriage is a concept; civil unions are for legal reasons. It's important to have civil unions so people can take care of each other legally, but who gives a turd about marriage? Just have your own ceremony and call it a day. What are you going to do now Perez? Head up to Maine and protest? You should after the beatdown you inflicted on that poor Miss California who was perfectly justified in SPEAKING HER OWN MIND. Not your mind, HERS.

  84. 84

Re: isaac – Why do so many straight people have baggage? I know plenty of straight people with similar stories.

  85. 85

Re: JSAMFAN – Exactly. If we let the majority decide what the minority/oppressed should get, women wouldn't be voting and we'd still be drinking from separate drinking fountains. It's wacked.

  86. 86

    Re: SWEETPIECE!
    # 80
    So right!

  87. 87

Personally I support Gay marriage however…….

If someone thinks about it, mulls it over, and devides they dont support it, how does that make them "ignorant" or "narrow minded"?

    It's called a democracy…

I also don't understand why if you dont like gays, you are called a "homophobe".

Homophobe means to be afraid of gays, not dislike them…..

  88. 88

This just makes me want to cry. I'm straight and I cry because we are all equal and deserve to be treated the same. Keep fighting it will happen cause you know what? Gays aren't going away, nor the straights that will fight right along with you for equal rights for all. I agree IT WILL HAPPEN!

  89. 89

    bad maine

  90. 90

Way to go voters! Yeah, it's not a "right". Civilizations (countries, states, etc) grant certain benefits, favors, and advantages to the basic building blocks of a society, for reason. Keep recruiting to your lifestyle gays…nature won't grow you.

  91. 91

Re: 85Nitro26 – america was founded by murdering all the native people, then they brought slaves over and treated them like cattle. do you even know all the policies that the "founders" supported?
they didnt support rights for people who werent white, womans rights, or gay rights. plus the seperation of church and state was created for a reason. supporting gay marriage in the usa is not about religion. its about supporting freedom. how difficult is it to understand that the defintion of marriage was ALREADY changed in america. the benefits the come with marriage have already changed the meaning. heterosexuals do not need a church to get married in america….so religion is not a legit reason to be against gay marriage.

  92. 92

Re: !!whuh – how about gays stop living their lifestyle, ounce condoms and birth control for heteros becomes illegal. you cant take away their rights just because they dont all want children. btw, gays can adopot and have biological children if they choose. oh and allowing gays to get married wont hurt the population at all.

  93. 93

This is so wrong. What century do we live in again?

  94. 94

    As it should be.

  95. 95

Re: southernboi11 – it doesn't matter I do no support gay marriage, they have their rights and their civil unions or whatever they call them. I'm happy that the state I live in currently doesn't support it and neither does my home state. Sorry you think my comment is stupid, but its how I feel, sorry your so closed minded. Because things could be a lot worse and just because something so little wasn't passed doesn't mean everyones gotta jump down each others backs, which is clearly what you people are doing.

  96. 96

As unpopular as my opinion may be…I am glad that Maine voted for the preservation of traditional marriage.

  97. 97

    Re: hhhhhhh7

Okay. Here's a history lesson for you then. The founders were Christians and built the laws and documents off of the Christian religion. Also, the founding fathers were from different countries (mainly British). Yes there was murder, but if you look closer, the murder was diseases that were brought. Native Americans didn't have the immunities that settlers have. The concept of marriage hasn't changed since then. It's been in the Bible and it's God's word since the beginning of time. Marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN. Americans are given the ability to vote for what they think is best (aka Democracy) and we voted not to allow gay marriage!!!! (YAY!) Also, marriage between man and woman does not have to be done in a church with a ceremony. It can be done by a justice of the peace, priest, minister, etc. Religion is a valid point to go against homosexuals. It's the building block of this nation and our morals. Case closed. Homo's lose (again!!!)

  98. 98

    Re: Rebeccagrace11

    AMEN!!!!!

  99. 99

I voted No, and almost everyone I know voted No. It's all the stupid hicks up north… :( But on the bright side, medical marijuana dispensaries are now allowed in Maine :)

  100. 100

Only a very smaller % of Americans agree with it Perez! You are a very small minority.
