Prop 8 all over again!
Maine has voted AGAINST the legalization of same-sex marriage.
Sad.
Good for Maine!
Re: isaac – Wow. I never thought of it, but the same goes for the gays I know. They had bad childhoods where their parents died or was abused…hmmm…
Ahhh yes, put down people that don't share the same views…how very open minded.
Isaac: My childhood SUCKED and im STRAIGHT… stop being a retard.
Re: kitty9 – I dont want to see your fat ugly ass getting tapped either… but that doesnt mean it should be illegal you dumb twat
The ignorance has spoken, not the people. I'll disown my own parents if they had voted YES on 1. I cant imagine what it would be like in a world where people are actually happy because they can be unobstructed by Religion and all that Jesus bullshht and the closed minded foolish people who meddle in the lives of others.
Equality over Stupidity people!
@ Hellabria, hey you are cute, we should hook up >:-)
Re: 85Nitro26 –
it was not diseases you idiot. it was genocide!!! the founders were racist and sexist. so dont use them as a moral example.
involving religion in american marriage is OPTIONAL. which is why hetero muslims, atheists, agnostics, scientologists, christians, etc, can get married. so being religious is not an excuse for your bigotry! and marriage has not been the same since the begining of time. why dont you understand that american marriage is NOT christian marriage. the word "marriage" is a modern english word. plus "god" did not add the benefits that come with marriage in the usa.
"homo's lose"!??
ha ha. do you realize 50 years ago, a poll this close in america was unheard of. gay equality in america is inevitable.
Re: Miss-Dior – um dont a lot of straight people have bad childhoods too??
and dont a lot of gay people have good childhoods??
what a stupid theory…
Re: 85Nitro26 – Read the Treaty of Tripoli, you historically ignorant fool.
That sucks!
But not only that - what is with the "yes" meaning no & the "no" meaning yes??
This is a democracy - what is with the "trickery??"
Seriously?? When will the gay advocates understand that you can't shove this idea in people's faces? That is why people come out big to oppose this issue on voting day - make your case with solid, thoughtful facts (which are definitely valid) rather than hateful, judgemental emotions (which is what you are trying to fight against, right??) - and voters may be more open to actually listening and supporting gay marriage.
sad day. :/
Re: Serena!!!COLON!!! You Twats –
Why don't you read the Bible?
Re: sd92071 – I like the way you think!
Today, I'm so ashamed to be a Mainer.
It's a very sad day here in Maine! I was on the No on 1 campaign for weeks and it's so sad that there just wasn't enough votes. But soon enough there will be equality!!!
Re: Hypocrite99 – I meant up in Northern Maine as opposed to SOUTHERN MAINE, I live here I know how the votes were tallied, jesus. Do my home work? stfu and find something else to arhue about because you have no idea what your even debating.
GAY PEOPLE PF AMERICA: come to lovely cold SWEDEN where you can even get married in a church, with a priest!! Welcome everybody, we lovsss gays!!
Way to go Maine!!! People need to stand up for what they believe in and if they dont want gay marriage, so be it. Boo Hoo
I'm from Maine and the fact that Maine is now moving backwards is very sad! Equality needs to strivee!
FU MAINE. sad.
yes the majority of dumb old people have spoken. see the majority that is smart voted for gay marriage. see this is probably why americans are made fun of. its supposed to be a FREE country. i see nothing FREE about it. this is probably why we have never had a woman president either. cause americans only love straight white old men. anybody else is second class in america gays, women, black, hispanics, young people.
thats why only white old geezers are on congress
Re: 85Nitro26 – I have.
It's very humorous to me that so many clearly homophobic people would come to a blog run by a gay man and feel the need to post anti-gay comments. Just as you all have your opinions, my opinion is this site is frequented by females and gay men. Yet, there are many "straight males" commenting on gay marriage. Odds are these guys are closeted. Maybe a miniscule percentage of them are straight… But what straight male in our society would even admit to visiting a bright pink celebrity gossip site, let alone leave evidence they were here?
Re: onceinawhile – Since homosexuals seek approval and government benefits from society - society and the majority have the right to approve or disapprove the behavior - to regulate. Marriage is regulated - people can't marry if they are already married, they can't marry for a variety of other reasons because the state has the right to regulate the institution - Gay marriage fails because the gays want they're cake and eat it too - ie: total dictation, churches stripped of rights, schools forced to teach it, gays can't and won't stop suing and making demands - therefore, society will reject “gay marriage” because no such thing can exist and respect the others in the public sqaure - sue, complain, sue some more, demand some more. We are fed up. The people have spoken and we REJECT GAY MARRIAGE!
CONGRATS MAINE!
Re: cookereh –
"Personally I support Gay marriage however…….
If someone thinks about it, mulls it over, and devides they dont support it, how does that make them "ignorant" or "narrow minded"?"
A person with any sort of capacity for logical thought won't and will never come to this conclusion. We can argue all we want about "rights", but when it comes down to it, the intelligent person can say without doubt that who a person chooses to act lovingly towards makes no impact on their humanity and their morals.
"It's called a democracy…"
Democracy is just a system to help the species to live together more efficiently. It's not THE system.
"I also don't understand why if you dont like gays, you are called a "homophobe".
Homophobe means to be afraid of gays, not dislike them….."
You're absolutely right! You aren't a homophobe. You're merely a bigot. Homophobes can overcome their fear. Disliking a person for no apparent reason is prejudiced. Tell me now, why do you dislike gays? Chances are it's rooted in a fear. No matter, it's all ignorance if you ask me.
I was hoping this State could do it. Very sad!
Maybe we should all be nice and equal and all get our gay on. Sure the world would end because no babies could be produced, but what a gay old time we'd all have!!
Seriously what you do in private is your own business but to call it marriage between two people of the same sex is just weird. Homosexuality is not even proven to be genetic. Every time the people could vote on it they turned it down. America is still a democracy for letting the people decide.
For all you morons out there who are anti gay-marriage, please know at least that "marriage" is a proto-indo word that do not originate from the hebrew bible or any abrahamic religious texts. It simply means "to be engaged to a marya" which is a young boy or a boyfriend. Nothing magical or sacred about that. It would totally make sense that gay men use that word. But lesbian would have to call it a "merriage", because a young girl in proto-indo is a "meri".
Re: Romy23 – It is proven to be genetic, though. People like you refuse to accept the evidence, however.
ok,so gay people want seperation of church and state?
and bitch because same sex marriage was voted down again?
hello..marriage is a religious institute, started by religious ”figures”…you have civil unions, thats yr seperation of church and state…unless you all pass a law that says religious people can not vote in an issue such as this,it will most likely be voted down over and over again, and trying to pass a religous excluded voting law will never work.everyone is entitled to their vote…
haha … so sad perez
Re: isaac –
i don't know if you were trying to be funny, but if you are an adult you should already know not to generalize.
Thats like saying, why do almost all the black people i know like watermelons, it must be true then!…. moron.
Re: Hypocrite99 –
sad, but true
and please don't include Perez with us, he's in his own category. Gays don't want him.
Re: hellabria – WOW….
"Stupid religious redneck pricks" — nice, tolerant, open-minded viewpoint on your part. How about when YOU respect the opinions of others, then they can try to be open-minded to your ideas too?
I live in the state of Maine. I can tell you Yes on 1 passed because voter turn out is dismal in years when officials are not on the ballot. In my voting district alone only 30% of eligible voters turned out to vote, down from 85% last year. And guess what those that get out and vote every single year are those who do not support gay marriage.
About this being ignorance that caused gay marriage to be voted down. Yeah no. Everybody is entitled to there opinion no matter how wrong it may seem to the majority. The real ignorance here is those who didn't vote and then whine about the turn out. If you cared so damn much then why didn't you use your right and let all know your opinion? Some need to wake up and realize things will not change until you do something about it! Hopefully the next time this is one the ballot and you know it will be, people will actually turn out to cast a vote.
Re: cookereh –
if they dont believe in it, then why dont they just turn the cheek and let live?? why do they have to take time out of their lives to vote for something that will negatively affect the lives of other human beings when it has NOTHING to do with them??
it seems to me that they have more than just a belief conflict for them to go out of their way to fuck somebody's life up like that…
I'm very sorry that your country has decided to allow what my father calls, "The Tyranny of the majority". Here in Canada we have gay marriage and we did not vote on it. Our government introduced the civil marriage act in 2005 and there just hasn't been the kind of objections here that you guys are having over there. I can't fathom why anyone would make it their mission to prevent another person's happiness, but I am incredibly grateful to live in a nation that can proudly say to the world, "Look, any kind of LOVE is a GOOD thing!!"
And listen, if you get too sick of all that oppression, by all means come to Canada, we're pretty cool up here!!!
I live in Maine and I voted No on Question 1 (for gay marriage).
31 states have voted and all of us turned down the very bizarre idea that American pop culture can overturn biology, evolution and the mind of the Creator.
love is love does it matter id you like a boy or a girl? it makes no difference
I'm from a country where gay can marry and frankly the bigot majority has NO SAY when comes the time to deal with rights of a minority. Whatever bullshit the bigots will throw here, I don't want to hear about it. It's ABSOLUTELY unethical. The blacks didn't get their rights because they were a majority. The majority has nothing to do with it. Stay behind, USA. Stay Be-Hind. The Euro is already much stronger than your dollar, and gay marriage will be legal all over europa long before neanderthalian conservatives in america wake up to the beat.
It was a day of mourning for many of us in Maine. If you look at the results, the folks who live along the coast voted overwhelmingly to Protect Marriage Equality. However the religious zealots (who hate everyone) & less educated folks of western maine where taken in by the hateful commercials that were funded by the Catholic Church - don't forget that the Catholic Church supported Hitler. The ads were awful and filled with lies. FYI - it took the Supreme Court to legalize interracial marriage, and that didn't happen until 1967. Civil Rights should not be left up to the individual states or the voters, as they have shown us time and time again, they can not be trusted to do what is right and moral.
The Catholic Church poured close to a million dollars into this campaign - TIME TO TAX THE CHURCHES!!!!!!!!
"Religious institutions that use government power in support of themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths, or of no faith, undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of an established religion tends to make the clergy unresponsive to their own people, and leads to corruption within religion itself. Erecting the "wall of separation between church and state," therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society." -Thomas Jefferson
