No Doubt Suing Makers Of Band Hero

No Doubt is suing the makers of Band Hero for fraudulent inducement and breach of contract in order for them to remove their likeness from the new videogame!
According to the lawsuit filed in El Lay Superior Court, the band signed a deal to appear as an avatar in the Activision game, but only to sing three No Doubt tracks. The company went back on the agreement by allowing the stars to "sing, dance and perform over sixty songs" from a variety of artists, "transforming No Doubt band members into a virtual karaoke circus act".
You can even make Gwen Stefani sing in a male voice! We're sure she's thrilled!!
"While No Doubt are avid fans of the Rolling Stones and even have performed in concerts with the Rolling Stones, the Character Manipulation Feature results in an unauthorised performance by the Gwen Stefani avatar in a male voice choir boasting about having sex with prostitutes," states the lawsuit. "Activision has deceived and confused the public into believing that No Doubt authorised the use of its name and likeness for the Character Manipulation Feature of Band Hero and that No Doubt approves and endorses the appearance of its members individually performing songs that are wholly inappropriate and out of character for No Doubt."
The band is looking to withdraw their involvement in the Guitar Hero spin-off because Activision bosses refused to correct the game.

The whole concept of avatars in the likeness of real people, dead or alive, not singing their own songs seems odd and disrespectful to me. Good example of why cited by Gwen Stephani.

This is why you learn how the game works, and READ THE CONTRACT before signing it. Or at least have your lawyers do their job well enough to explain the basics to you.
Gwen and Courtney Love need to get better lawyers or start reading what they're signing.

People playing the game rarely ever actually look at the avatars anyway! They better be glad they were even asked to have their likeness in the damn game to begin with. you guys are all assholes. if someone tarnished your image, making you represent something you think is wrong, ie PROSTITUTES, you would want to change that too. kudos to the band for always staying classy and respectful, and standing up for what they believe in. would you have the same reaction if a male singer brought it up that he didn't like being portrayed with a woman's voice?
mhm, i don't really think that it's about the male voice, but about the lyrics sung by it.
and i think that the lawyers read what they signed, but that the game developers changed THEIR "contract" afterwards. copyright is a tricky topic, and i guess that all people who have had their copyright misused understand the issues.
either way, i don't know the game, so i don't know if it really is disrespectful, but breaking a contract definitely is.

Listen to their albums. They don't have a single swear word in them and are about normal problems and emotions (not prostitutes!). Of course they want to protect their good reputation.

1.) Nobody cares. 2.) No Doubt has has a lot of their music in GH games. They've never seen it? They don't know how the game works? Do they think people care if they're in the game if kids can't play as them? BS. Artistic integrity? No Doubt is as commercial as they come. They are nothing like they were 20 years ago. Activision doesn't give a shit. They own over 70% of the game market, especially after they merged with Blizzard Entertainment.
