Nobody will ever eclipse their fame or influence. They’re both simply the greatest pop cultural icons of the last 40 years right up their with the Beatles, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe.

Funny how everyone tries to assign negative intentions to Ms. Loren's statement. What about the possibility that Ms. Loren was stating her honest opinion? I am certain people like Madonna are indeed lonely! Certainly she sought out and worked hard for the life she now has, but I am quite certain that there are many aspects of her life she would do without if she could. If fame were all peaches and cream, you wouldn't see so many miserable, lonely, and/or mentally unstable, dysfunctional people at the top!
