Americans Watching TV More Than Ever!

According to the Nielsen ratings, the 2008-2009 TV season has seen record-breaking numbers of Americans parked in front of the tube!

The average person spends about four hours and 49 minutes per day watching TV, which is up four minutes from last year and an increase of 20% from 10 years ago.

Also at an all-time high, the average household watches eight hours and 21 minutes a day!!!

Primetime viewing has remained the same as last year, but it is still at its highest peak since 1991.

The factors contributing to a country full of mindless zombies include more TV sets in the home along with more channels and content. Not to mention, DVRs have become quite handy!

      television
      the drug of a nation
      breeding ignorance
      & feeding radiation…
It's the perpetuation of the two party system
where image takes precedence over wisdom
Where sound bite politics are served to
      the fastfood culture
Where straight teeth in your mouth
are more important than the words
      that come out of it

while you watch TV Nancy Pelosi and Ben Bernanke stick you in the ass. But you like it, so go back to watching Survivor.

    7. 7

Ever since television went digital we haven't watched TV…..I refuse to pay money in order to watch it!

Now that the economy is bad, people don't have the option to go out. Going out costs $, and that is in short supply for most people these days. What other option do they have but to sit home and watch tv?

Re: 6one9 – Lots of women are leaving their husbands because of this and yet you say your leading this cause? You're an idiot. And what were you doing on the weekends and after work? Do you have a job? Hmm…its nice to just watch you place all the blame on another person and if you are gonna divorce someone over watching tv, then im pretty sure you marriage was screwed along time before that, people do not just get divorced because of tv watching habits unless there is more going on.

Re: TwoGoofballs – im pretty sure you've always had to pay to watch television.

    11. 11

Also, America's unemployment rate is 10.2%.
More people at home watching TV because they can't afford to go out!

    12. 12

Re: popstar2k2 – Nope only cable. But if you don't live in America, they added digital TV which means you have the pay it…kinda.

I multi-task: Browse internet and watch the tele. For instance, right this very second I am reading Perez's blog AND watching House Hunters! Wowa.

And thanks to you bitches, I have to watch The Hills now too. WTG and TNXS a lot for that!

Speaking of The Hills… Spencer and Heidi should not be letting those adorable little puppies run around loose in the yard the way they do. There are hungry coyotes in them there hills. Everyone is losing their puppies these days. I don't need to read about your future tragic loss.

Now I am debating hitting submit because this is such a stupid comment I'm leaving. Clearly I'm bored….

      Go TV Go Internets

what else are they supposed to do in this damn recession. if thats not the probem…. then blame glee

    16. 16

BLAME IT ON THE UNEMPLOYMENT !!!!

    17. 17

It's just a shame that television has degraded from a classy dame into a cheap $2 whore. Reality television and pay tv has ruined it for everyone.

    18. 18

It's b/c of the recession - they're probably surfing the internet more too.

    19. 19

Well, here's your Hopenchange for ya. People have more time to watch television because more of them don't have a job and many others need more time lost in the form of escapism. Who needs a fascist to go all out in American when we have non-thinking individuals who will submit freely into "what everyone else is doing." Hey, it's how November 2008 happened.

Go back to bed America, your government is in control again. Here, here's American Gladiators! Watch this! Shut up!

Go back to bed America. Here's American Gladiators! Here is 56 channels of it! Watch these picturary retards bang their fucking skulls together and congratulate you on living in the land of freedom. Here you go America! You are free to do as we tell you, you are free to do as we tell you!

People are getting dumber.TV is an instrument of mind control, hypnotic suggestion and mental programming.

Re: Big Black Dick – The bigger the tv, the smaller the dick and the more useless it becomes.

    21. 21

God, do I hate TV. But it's just there. I watch it. Probably even more than the average amount of hours most persons watch. I watch Current TV, though, so it's not SO bad. Current is edumacational. Repetitive, but edumacational.

    22. 22

      it's called unemployment

    23. 23

wow, weird, I watch less and less every week… but I'm on the internet more and more

that's cause nobody has a job, dick. way to rub it in

    25. 25

I find it funny that people get angry over this saying "it's because no one has a job".So if you don't have a job… there is no option but to watch tv? How about reading a book? Educating yourself? Maybe some physical activities? Hey… internet is a lot better than watching tv even. Americans are so LAZY, getting dumber and dumber, it's scary.

    26. 26

all thanks to hulu.com. they really revolutionized tv viewing.

    27. 27

It has to do with the recession i agree but i think people watch t.v. too much anyhow. I got rid of my tube almost 5 years ago and don't miss it at all. i watch movies but that's infrequent. the less you watch, the less you need. I did it intially because I felt I was wasting money to have cable hookup and then it just grew on me. I think people become better thinkers without television and less media influence. If I had children there would be only cartoons from video.
