Smallville TV Movie? For Real, CW?
We honestly want to know how this show has survived NINE seasons on television. Wasn't the point of the series to follow Clark Kent through his HIGH SCHOOL years? We think his 25 year reunion is coming up or something.
Tom Wellling is still, hot though. We'll give them that!
Regardless of what we think, the ratings for Smallville must still be strong enough to keep the show trudging along, and not only that, warrant the show be turned into a TV movie event.
You read that right.
It seems fans are particularly excited for the upcoming Justice Society themed episodes, which will include superhero stars like Stargirl, Hawkman, and Dr. Fate. (We haven't a clue who the hell any of these people are. What about just Batman?)
Due to the high demand for the episodes, which will be penned by Geoff Johns, the CW execs decided to go the extra mile and combine the planned episodes into one mega, awesome geekfest explosion of a TV event.
The two-part, two-hour event will air on January 29th.

i used to watch the show every week. but it sucks now since Lex was killed off, or left the show, whatever. i'll tune in every now and then just to see if Lex was back. BRING LEX BACK!!!
I have been watching Smallville since the beginning of it's time. It has re-defined the entire storyline of Superman, and while that makes me upset at times, I'm still a true ADDICT. I will keep watching until the final episode…which should have been when Clark's father died a LONG time ago but what the hell, Tom Welling is HOT and I don't mind watching him kick alien butt! The writers keep dangling the superman transformation like a carrot and it drives me crazy but I love it!! I would also LOVE to see them do the series finale as a Superman movie in the theatres, that would be a dream come true

i really don't get why people don't understand that at some point clark kent had to grow up, and yes tom welling is still hot (even more now) but he ain't getting any younger, so it's natural that the series moves on with from what began as clark kent at highschool to how he becomes superman…

Not every other superhero story has to have Batman in it, Perez… just think if every other pop song had to have fergie in it; or if every movie had to have jennifer anniston in it…You shouldn't comment or come up with opinions without thinking about it first.
I do agree with you about how long the show has been on. The creators should have done the show in four years- focusing on his high school years, and when that was done, put out another series that showed what he did after that.
It has been on a ridiculously long time…but honestly the episodes I do catch continue to draw me in for the hour. It has a formula that really works, and an almost limitless supply of canon to draw from until it ends. I think it will be one of the few shows that end because the story ends, and not because of a loss in ratings.

Again, I neither watch or have ever watched the show but it has a sizeable following.
The show has more than managed to "survive".
It has even mangaed to show some gains despite a move to Fridays.
The show won the 8-9pm hour in adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49.
Last week it showed a new season high in adults 18-34 and 18-49 and men 18-49 as well as in total viewers.
Overall last weeks episode was up compared to the previous week, 8% in adults 18-34, 7% in men 18-34 and adults 18-49, 15% in men 18-49, and 14% in total viewers.
Overall these numbers represent the best in the demos in over a year.
So again the show is doing more than just "surviving".

It's not like the network green lit a TV movie in the sense of how most people think of a TV movie.
It merely combined two episodes with common story-lines.
Given Smallville's recent successes it only made sense to the network to dip their toe into the 9pm time slot.

This show has lasted 9 years because of the huge fanbase. The series pulls in such a broad demographic. You should probably try watching an episode before opening your mouth. The point of Smallville was not to follow Clark through high school, but to follow his transformation into The Man of Steel.

Smallville is a great show, and obviously if it survived 9 seasons it has a large enough fan base that the movie will be successful. Just because you personally aren't a fan of the show, Perez, does not mean the movie won't do well.

Dr. Fate is one of well known characters in DC Comics. Not only that, Dr. Fate is powerful than Batman. IN fact, Dr. Fate can make Batman disappear … for eternity.
As for Geoff Johns, I'm confident that he'll succeed with his script for Smallville. After all, he had these successful stints at DC Comics writing Day of Judgment, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Infinite Crisis, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Legion of 3 Worlds and the current blockbuster … Blackest Night.

I think the guys who bash a show they haven't seen need to give this show a chance. It's about Clark becoming Superman, not from just when he was growing up. He's kicking butt while being the hottest guy on TV.. The show is having its best year ever. Looking forward to the two hour movie event (which is really two episode being presented together, which the show has done before with a big event storyline). Can't wait for this… It should be yet more awesomeness.
