Annie Lennox Wins "Woman of Peace" Award from Nobel Organization

Singer Annie Lennox was honored with the 2009 "Woman of Peace" award yesterday in Berlin at a Nobel Peace Laureate summit.
Lennox has been involved in raising awardness of HIV/AIDS especially in women and children in South Africa. She gathered 23 female vocalists to record the song "SING" for her SING organization that has since raised $2 million dollars to provide treatment, testing, HIV education and prevention programs in South Africa.
Lennox, who was inspired to help the AIDS effort by Nelson Mandela's description of HIV in Africa as a "genocide," says of her award:
"I want to express my profound gratitude and deep humility. I honor all the women working around the globe to reduce the effects of this pandemic. This is for them, they truly deserve it."
Congratulations, Annie!

Oh Annie…always so gracious & that beautiful voice…
That's awesome! I love Annie Lennox!
I saw her in concert on a beautiful starry summer night with only a slight breeze and a beautiful voice from heaven!!!
Annie is one of my all-time favorite singers.
Her song 'Why' is beautiful and haunting ..
ANNIE LENNOX, eternally beautiful, certainly deserved that. She's got it all–an extraordinary voice, a striking signature look, and is a TRUE humanitarian. She has chosen to use her name to get the attention of officials who have the power to make a difference. She has given massive UNDISCLOSED amounts of money to the hungry and those stricken with AIDS and poverty. She is also a single mother of two daughters. She won an Academy Award in 2004 for her song in 'Lord of the Rings.'
Great!
Love this woman! She deserved this award. Hello to all the people and to you Sweets!
::raising awardness of HIV/AIDS::
I CAN'T believe Perez Hilton has typo's in every single post and still hasn't managed to get an editor. This is simply unacceptable. Perez, e-mail me. I will work for you, not because I want to, but because it's annoying the living hell out of me and I can't take it anymore.
wOw she still looks gOOd …………
Such a shame she's Scottish…she could achieve so much more if only she gave up the Buckfast!
Who gives a F—? The Nobel lost all cache when they awarded it to a man who had been office only 256 HOURS - yes… HOURS when he was nominated. It's worth NOTHING - least of all any respect. Thatcher and Reagan should have gotten it for bringing the Berlin Wall down. Bunch of idiot schmucks on the committee.
Now there's a class act and a true talent. Much respect due.
Too bad the O won the peace price, they have all lost their luster. Sorry Annie you are one great singer and person
LOVE HER! ALWAYS AND FOREVER!
Erm, Marrakesh, George Bush Senior was President when the Berlin Wall came down and Thatcher was vocally opposed to German reunifications. Keep on taking the tablets….
Re: Marrakesh –
Too bad you don't know what you're talking about. You might want to brush up a bit on Reagan, Thatcher and Bush Sr.
Good for Annie-she is definitely a generous human being!
A classy lady with real talent. Not many of them around these days
Re: Sallykitten – What a stupid comment. I'm Scottish and I've never tasted Buckfast in my life.
Fantastic and well deserved- you rock, Annie!
GO ANNIE!!!
NOW THIS IS A TRUE ARTIST AND WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE - NOT FUCKING BRITNEY OR CHRISTINA OR BEYONCE OR THOSE SIMPSON AIRHEADS, ET AL.
LU ANNIE …
Re: Marrakesh – PLEASE GET BACK ON YOUR MEDS
Beautiful Annie. How about that? She did it with NO media around, NO newspaper people around and NO paps around - unlike other doo gooders who have their pics taken in every country they visit.
Re: Marrakesh –
Waaa waaa waaah.
Re: Sallykitten –
Do you practice being such an asshole? Or does it come naturally to you?
