Other Religious Leaders Call Out The Catholic Church
After threatening to discontinue their social services through Catholic Charities because of the same-sex marriage bill in Washington D.C, other religious leaders are calling out the Catholic church for their disgraceful actions.
Reverend Dr. Dennis W. Wiley, Pastor of the Covenant Baptist Church just released the following statement:
“Yesterday, the leadership of the Catholic Church made clear that they are choosing a cynical political ploy over their call to serve the neediest among the community.
"Members of the Church hierarchy announced that they will prohibit Catholic Charities from providing services to D.C. residents if the D.C. City Council decides to recognize all married couples as equal under law. If it indeed takes this step, the leadership of the Catholic Church will be turning their backs on thousands of D.C. Catholics and other D.C. residents who embrace all of our neighbors and seek to provide for them in times of need.
“The Catholic Church hierarchy is at a crossroads: they must decide whether they are in the charity business for charity's sake, or if imposing their will on the D.C. City Council and the citizens of the District is their primary interest.”
So which is it?
Charity or hate?

Honestly, I don't understand why the Catholic marriage has a say on who can and cannot get married AT ALL. They may have the right to not allow the marriage to occur in their church, but last time I checked a marriage can occur anywhere at all, even outside of a religious setting. Marriages happen at city hall every day. Believing in God is NOT a requirement for having the right to get married. How is it possible that two successful gay men or women fall in love and want to get married but it is illegal according to the government in many places, yet two FELONS as long as they are of the opposite sex have the opportunity get married whenever they please? And who allows Catholics to dictate that marriage should be between a man and a woman? The only argument for this "law" is that only a man and a woman have the ability to reproduce. Yet, many straight people are born infertile or become infertile and will never have the ability to produce with a man or a woman. Should these people also be stripped of their right to get married? Marriage is no longer a only a religious tradition, and should not rely on religious rules.

There are a lot of people that will give up their core values, the things that define them so that others will like them or under the guise of political correctness. I for one am glad the they are standing up for what they profess. not becoming a victim of political correctness. I grew up catholic, but I think religion is sofa king retarded. Why are people so pathetic that they need to follow a religion of made up stuff that was made up centuries ago? Also, I agree that gays should get to be married, but who cares really? What does marriage really mean when so many people get divorced? Why are people so insecure with themselves that they need a contract with someone to stay with them forever???
I am still wavering on the issue of gay marriage and I was also raised Catholic. That being said, I am very disappointed in the Catholic Church due to this little political maneuver they are trying to pull. Catholic Social Services provides aid to the homeless, adoption services, and several other services to over 60,000 people in need in the D.C. area. They have a contract with the city to provide these services, and they are saying they will not honor the contract if this law passes. However, taking away the services will not harm the people they are upset with (i.e. city officials and homosexuals). This will hurt the people who need their help the most. I am so sick of politicians and organizations always taking things away from people who already have too little. I seriously hope they reconsider their threat and realize that not only is it ridiculous, but it goes against EVERYTHING Jesus emphasized in his teachings (i.e. helping those in need, not passing judgment on others because that is God's job).
What has the world come to, where we all have to believe in one thing? The Catholic church should do what they want with their money (they've been building their wealth since Constantine's time). To those that say they don't help the poor and every priest is a child molester, that shows how much you about anything. Did they start the joint project to help the needy and out of goodwill or did they start the joint projects to use as a future weapon to push their beliefs on others? Also they are using the needy and child to get thier way. What would Jesus think of that. Does not the Bible preach Charity(love) is the greatest out of faith, hope and charity(love). Their faith has changed over time - divorce, interracial marriage(I support), women wearing pants, and etc. Also, the bible preaches in Matthew, Mark and Luke that a man can only divorce his wife because of adultory. If anything else then the women and who ever marries her the second time is in adultory. How many of them are divorce for other reasons then adultory and got remarried? If they are going to deny same-sex marriage base on the Bible then they should deny second marriage expect if adultory ended the first. If your going to judge by the Bible then judge by the ALL the Bible.
Well the Catholic Church doesn't exactly have the best historical track record of Charity for Charity's sake. i.e. the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, turning a blind eye and/or denying the Holocaust….

I happen to be one of these people but I do not appreciate being called an idiot. How about some tolerance. Sounds like you may be the ignorant one to me. Ignorant of what it really means to be a Christian. Jesus spoke more about poverty and helping others than in what is not approved by God. Yes I think homosexuality is a sin. But so is judging others, hypocrisy, and self-righteousness. And the Bible also states that "all sins are equal in the eyes of God." So therefore people judging homosexuals are committing just as much sin as they are preaching against.
Just be careful lumping all of us "idiot bible literalists" lest you become just as bad as those YOU are preaching against.

i just want you all to know i am for gay marriage, but the catholic church's beliefs say that "marriage should be between a man and a woman" so i understand what they are doing. they are sticking with their doctrine and should not be criticized for that, even if it seems wrong so some people. they're just doing what they believe is right, so please stop. god may love us equally, but catholics believe that acting upon one's gay feelings is a sin and wrong. please stop yelling at catholics for staying with their beliefs.
God doesn't change. What is right and what is wrong doesn't change. Society's opinion of what is right and what is wrong changes. That doesn't mean because a group of people what their immoral lifestyle validated by the rest of us that it is right. Sorry, not everyone agrees with you.

Times change and religions need to too. It's time for the Catholic religion to accept gay marriage. I will be so excited and happy when they do!

ok, first the baptist church and the roman catholic church don't have a good relationship, this has been going on for years.
second, the fact that the catholic church has more charities and donates more money to the needy than the government in dc says a lot about our country. they depend on the church, the church doesn't depend on them, which pisses me off as a nonbeliever.
the catholic church follows their dogma, that isn't hate, for them homosexuality is a grave sin, whether or not you like it… its aganist their religion, the only hateful one is you

IF God exists, do you really think he'd care who married who? Look at all the pain and suffering in the world. If he existed and truly loved us all, then I think the world's got bigger problems for him to deal with than gay marriage
