Doing good things for the kiddies - and not her own!

Victoria Beckham
brought along her 10-year-old son, Brooklyn, to Clay County, Kentucky, this week to raise awareness for childhood poverty and the Save The Children's US Programs.

Clay County is one of the poorest counties in America and has a high rate of illiteracy and obesity in children not to mention poor cognitive and emotional development. 1 in 6 children in the US lives in poverty!

Victoria says:

"Seeing Save the Children's innovative programs in action, I know that we can begin to reverse the childhood poverty crisis. I'm pleased Brooklyn is learning that by helping and joining other children he can play a role in making his generation the greatest yet."

Posh and Brooklyn attended an after-school reading/healthy snack program at Manchester Elementary School, where they gave away Adidas shoes and backpacks and played soccer with the students. At Big Creek Elementary they read books to children as well as making home visits to parents to talk about literacy and nutrition.

"What I saw in Clay County was the hope and promise inherent in every child," Posh said. "That's why we have to make sure every single child has a fair and equal start in life."

Not only is she fierce and fashionable, but she's charitable, too!

I have lived in KY my whole life (it's not that boring, I swear!) and it's nice to have influential people coming to our state for a good cause!
However, not everyone is that poor in Ky, and I'm not to sure about what Perez says about illiteracy…in general, Kentucky has very good school systems.

Finally, a Beverly Hills celebrity is trying to do something to help people in America!! The third world countries never appreciate the help we try to give them. Madonna is a creep, always dissing America.

Is she aware of her own nutritional needs??? You've got to be kidding. The poster girl for anorexia telling people about hunger. That's funny.

    Re: dancerj08

Thank you. I really hate how everyone mocks KY… it's really not THAT bad here. There are actually some very nice schools here. My old elementary school was one of the top in the state.

First off can I just say FUCK you little miss Emma Watson Forever-Medieval Poetry, and Pepa. You can try and poke fun at Kentucky all you want.. Since you're so obsessed with celebrities than you should know that some of the most famous people in the world are from there. Not to mention the best college basketball program in the US. Im sure if you go into some little unknown county in your state it would be the exact same. So fuck off and research your shit before you start opening your mouth and making comments about Kentucky.

  17. 17

& maybe you should look at Louisville, and Lexington and stop judging KY based on some unknown county in the middle of nowhere.

WOO WOO I live in Louisville! Every stfu about Kentucky sucking, of course up in the Appalachian regions there's a lot of poverty but Louisville and Lexington and just about everywhere else is great. Also, 1 in 6 children in the US lives in poverty? I think you should fact check your statistics instead of just making some numbers up. You're getting pretty sloppy, Mario.

I love people who advocate to get rid of childhood poverty…as if they live alone. What about wiping national poverty, which includes targeting employment and social support for adults (especially women).

  21. 21

I know people who live just outside Clay County. Saying it's a poor county is being to kind.

  22. 22

brooklyn looks like a young matthew broderick in that pic.

  23. 23

    Frigging love her.

  24. 24

Re: caseymclean – Thank you Casey. I consider them EXTEMELY UNINFORMED! These problems are GLOBAL, yet they come to pick on a few southern states to make themselves feel better.
Indeed, some of the most famous folks in the World hail from this fine state. We are happy, decent and cordial. Not to mention a basketball powerhouse unsurpassed by NONE. Go Cats and Coach Cal!

  25. 25

    dont hate on kentucky!!!!!!

  26. 26

my friend works at the Hyatt that Posh stayed at, she said she was running around the hotel in a wig!

  27. 27

    OMFG…. That's where I effing grew up.

That is pretty cool of Posh though, considering Manchester is a shit hole. She's probably the first celeb in history to visit Clay County.

  28. 28

I never thought I would say this about Posh….but good for her!!!

  29. 29

Famous People from/born Ky: Ashley Judd, (and her mom and sisters), Muhammed Ali, Loretta Lynn, Billy Ray Cyrus, Abe Lincoln, Mitch McConnell, Diane Sawyer, Henry Clay , Brian Litteral and Kevin Richardson (BSB), Robert Penn Warren, Allen Tate, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Steve Zahn, Larry Birkhead, Zachary Taylor (12th president), Steven Curtis Chapman, Crystal Gayle, Nick Lachey, Tim Couch, Jim Bunning, Brandon Webb,…
Point is, KY has a lot to offer! So don't knock it ’til you try it!

My Mom was born in Manchester, KY - Clay County - Goose Creek. It is a SHIT HOLE. It is a Dry County, no Alcohol except for the Moonshine they brew. They have Hollers and Mountains where even I am too afraid to enter, think Texas Chainsaw Massacre. People are hopped up on drugs to ease them through their shiteous sense of being. Some still use Outhouses. If you ever get a big head and think you are the SHIT, you should be forced to live in Manchester for a week. That will shrink your ball size down a notch or two! You call your Grandpa "Daddy" and they wonder why some are so fucked up, it's the constant inbreeding. Yet and still, they are some of the nicest hillbilly folks in the world because they aren't tainted by anything that goes on outside of Manchester - since they've never been out of Manchester. Hell you would have to get 5 Smith Boys in the same room to get a Full Set of Teeth out of 'em. Go Clay County Tigers!

Yay Posh! Finally, someone taking a look at the poverty in our own back yards! What a great lesson to teach her son, who was born to absolute privilege. I think this is a great step, I hope to see more celebs step up as well and create awareness. For those of you shitting on her, you need to stop. This is a good thing. And I am sure they brought a lot of happiness to those kids and gave them hope, showed them that people DO care. Good show Victoria!! I am sure this experience has deffinately opened your sons eyes, and I am excited to see what he does to change the world as an adult :)
