It's Official! Rihanna's New Album Sucks!
Maybe there is hope for this album after all!
GQ reviewed RiRi's upcoming album and had this to say:
Two key points that stick out after just one front-to-back listen: First of all, Rihanna attacked this new album aggressively. She says "motherfucker," "bitches" and the N-word on it (sorry, Oprah). It's got violent revenge fantasies. And sex fantasies. Often she seems to be singing directly to Chris Brown. And sonically, it can be brutally dark. If her mentor Jay-Z pops up on a remix of one of these tracks (let's hope it's "Rock Star"), he definitely won't be referring to her as "Little Miss Sunshine" again. And you're damn right this thing is getting a Parental Advisory sticker.
The Rated R title totally makes sense now!
Oh and they also said one of the best tracks on the album was written by Rihanna's rumored fling, Justin Timberlake.

Sounds great to me. Much darker and sexier than the last album. I like the direction she's moving in. It has a '808s & Heartbreak' feel to it.
After the massive success of the previous album, and she is up to her 4th, she needs to move in different areas, to reinvent, so its a smart career move. She'll come back on the next album with killer pop/dance tracks, but this one needed to be more alternative, especially given her personal life of late.

It might work for some……but not for me….I'm not going to spend my hard earned dollars on this…probably not even going to pick it up for free. The girl needs to go back to Barbados and take a long, long break and try to get out of the grip of the triangle and the eye…ya hear!

maybe you should listen to the words. this album is all about what she went through. I think it's amazing and I am proud that she did this. it's more revealing than any interview. not all music is about pop beats and fun. sometimes it's about real life and suffering. take your head outta your ass and LISTEN to the lyrics.
perez I think you jumped the gun on this one. After hearing Cold Case love, I realized that riri may have more on that album than everyone thought. There are defintely somethings on there that would surprise you. Anyway that song is hot, and the instrumentals off the hook. You should have waited and evaluated this CD more, because I think you'll live to regret these words. I know your rooting for GAGA now, but there's still enough room in the game for ri ri too. This new album is going to do well. mark my words.

I don't think there's anyone out there who just likes one type of music. She is not the first to change direction musically. She rocks. She's just expressing her anger towards Chris.
Rihanna is pretty and I liked the umbrella song, but am I the only one that noticed that she can't sing! I made the mistake of going to one of her concert a couple years back and I still want my money back!
Perez, I don't think you get this album. I downloaded to the leaked version and listened to it. It's quite powerful. Rihanna has clearly used this album, this music, this art, as her way of working through her feelings and getting over the horrendous thing that happened to her.
It is not "Good Girl Gone Bad" in that it doesn't have those fun, hook-driven, pop/r&b songs. This album is predominantly mid-tempo hip hop, minor tracks, with a number of ballads. It focuses on revenge, feelings of weakness, moments of empowerment, the end of ones first big love. It may not sound aesthetically pleasing for some tracks, but it is clearly Rihanna's strongest artist work to date. It clearly means something to her.
I will buy this album simply for that. To show my support for her as she has struggled to work through the emotions that have plagued her over the past year. This album showcases that struggle and as such, is quite dark and brooding. Definitely a new direction for Rihanna - and one that she certainly will move away from with future albums. But let her have her artistic moment with this record.
The songs are all over YouTube, so have a listen, and decide for yourself. "The Last Song" is my personal favourite.
Oh, and Perez. How can you honestly say this album sucks, when you are promoting that guy Sliimy to death? While this album doesn't have the dance/club songs that you are looking for, every single song is miles upon miles better than ANYTHING Sliimy has put out. If you think this is bad, look at your own label…

Anyways, I haven't heard the teaser for her new album but I believe that where she was at that point in her life was very dark. I mean if it was me, I probably would have thought I was going to die at some point if I didn't get out. I can go on and on about this but the point is I believe you are not giving her enough credit.
