DJ AM's Estate To Sue For Wrongful Death

We're not really sure what to make of this.
DJ AM's estate is suing for wrongful death Clay Lacy Aviation, the company that chartered the plane that crashed in South Carolina carrying both DJ AM and Travis Barker.
Additionally they are suing Goodyear Tire, Learjet and the estates of both pilots who were killed in the crash.
According to the documentation, they're suing for wrongful death because "the crash ultimately caused Adam Goldstein's death."
The lawsuit makes note that Adam was forced to take drugs as a result of not only the burns he suffered from the crash but also to deal with the emotional distress. Adam became incredibly afraid of flying and began to take drugs to calm his nerves whenever he had to fly after the crash.
DJ AM's death was directly caused by a combination of the various prescription drugs and cocaine and in this case they are claiming that the drugs were a result of the crash.
We just don't know.
What do U think about the lawsuit?

New Mimi!

How dare they? He is the one who relapsed on drugs which caused his death. Everyone has triggers to cause relapsing but the blame lies on the addict.
bullshit!! the plane crash had absolutely nothing to do with his death… they just need something to blame, other than the fact that he obviously just slipped back into a deadly habit. Let him rest!!! "R.I.P DJ AM You left us WAY too soon"!
You wanna sue the company fine. But you want the 2 DEAD pilots estates? That's fucked up.
That's complete bullshit. He was an addict long before that plane crashed. To sue the families of them men who actually died in a tragic accident because he OD'd is completely despicable. Shit like this is why the US is on a downhill slide that it will never be able to recover from. People need to start taking responsibility for their own actions! DJ AMs family has no one to blame but themselves. He OD'd and it sucked, but the pilots from the crash however many months ago have no blame in that whatsoever, they've been dead remember? Sueing the pilots families is disgustingly selfish.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't prescribed cocaine to deal with his anxiety.
Re: jakefogelnest – i agree there are ALOT of ignorant people on here
OF COURSE DJ AM WAS SUING THE ESTATES OF THE PILOTS. THEY WERE PROBABLY THE ONES AT FAULT!! death does not legally excuse someone from blame, especially when two other people (three, if you include AM) died as a result. THIS IS WHY PILOTS HAVE INSURANCE. it covers stuff like this. it's not like these lawsuits are coming out of nowhere, DJ AM actually filed these lawsuits himself, as did Travis Barker and the families of the TWO OTHER PASSENGERS (not the pilots) THAT WERE KILLED on the plane that day. DJ AM's family did not create a new lawsuit, they amended the one that was already pending to add wrongful death. I haven't even heard yet if they are asking for more money.
There was a cause and effect; his spiral from dealing with pain and injury.
I don't know if it will win them a settlement. Only time will tell.
OMG! Thats ridiculous; he was a grown man WHO WILLINGLY KNEW what cocaine did to him….. and he decided to start using it AGAIN based on his own free will…….. THATS A CHOICE HE MADE…he died because he chose to take that route…… so anyone who overuses cocaine risks death..
GREEDY ASS PEOPLE….
HE DIED FROM A DRUG OVERDOSE, SOMETHING HE CHOSE TO DO TO HIMSELF….
HE WAS A GROWN MAN, WHO MADE HIS OWN CHOICES !!!!!
How the fuck are you gonna sue someone for him dyeing from a drug overdose…
I hope they get nothing and LOOSE everything trying to get it…. ASSHOLES…
You had our sympathy for about a minute until you pulled this shit so now that just went out the window….
the guy was just an effing drug addict and now some sleazy lawyers are trying to exploit the situation (basically profiting from dead people at the expense of the living)… i hope the families of the dead pilots get good representation and defend themselves from these filthy $cumbag$
People handle death differently. My heart breaks for the people he left behind that love him. Unfortunally for situations like this, someone feels the need to point the finger of blame. I don't think this lawsuit will go very far, it is asking a lot. I do think that instead of suing, they get some grief counciling.
He always seemed like such a nice guy. I think this lawsuit (pardon the pun) ain't gonna fly. If they continue to press on with it the defense will be digging up every wrong thing DJ AM did since he was about 7 years old. It won't be pretty. His estate can deny it all they want but he OD'd all on his own. Let the poor guy rest in peace.
One of my pets had a serious alcohol problem. He's been sober for eight years now but many times he can feel that he's on the edge and it would be so easy for him to fall back. We have contracted that if he has to leave a situation because of it he can say one word to me and leave. Once an addict always an addict. He tells me it's like being haunted. I can't imagine what it would take to live the rest of one's life without caving in to their addiction. It's a shame that DJ AM's family can't face that fact.
greed
Gonna be really hard to prove that one when DJ AM was an addict before the crash…… may he rest in peace
holy shit. you've got to be kidding me!?! it's absolutely HORRIBLE that dj am died. undeniably sad. but to blame the aviation company and the pilots for his DEATH when he didn't die IN THAT CRASH is asinine, sue-happy americans for you. hey. while they're at it why don't they try to sue his cocaine dealer? or his pharmicist? or his doctor for trying to help with pain meds?
oh well. at least i know after i get liver disease, i'll be able to sue sarah palin for driving me to drink.
The wrongful death lawsuit won't 'fly.' DJ AM like a number of people who fear flying simple drive. It was his choice. Nothing will come of this.
He overdosed on drugs and killed himself. You can't sue anyone for that. His death was no one's fault but his own. His "estate" is just GREEDY.
Wow. How about a little thing called person called personal responsibility? Families of overdose and suicide victims are always trying to pass off blame to negate their own guilt. The guy had drug problems before all that, if anything, that crash should have been a wake up call and a second chance to get your life right. So, is Travis Barker going to sue these same groups everytime he does something stupid from now on?
Seems like quite a stretch since some of the drugs he used weren't prescription. It would also be an awful precedent to set….if you had car crash and a year later you died from a disease or an overdose, you could sue because the crash brought that on? Think not!
The Cocaine part is kind-of the downfall of the argument on this one. I can understand why someone would turn to drugs when having a rough time, but, would a court of LAW bypass the illegal substance abuse and go with "Yea, definitely pushed to drugs, including illegal ones, through the stress of a plane crash?"
It is a tuffie.
Y'know, I am sure those pilots that died, more likely then not leaving children behind and everything else, had a lot less cash kickin around then DJ AM. I think it is disgusting. Your going to go and re-open these wounds for these families? Your going to take money from the spouses and kids who lost so much as well? Just sickening.
thats disgusting. just money grubbing family members trying to make a dime off of their drug addicts OD. last time i checked, the pilots didnt turn him into a coke-head, he did that to himself, and wayyy before that plane ever crashed.
this makes no sense…his family is super greedy, what assholes!
he was a drug addict before this whole thing happen, it's not the company's fault that he slipped back to his former disgusting habbits.
accident or no accident he was a druggie. its his own fault he died..
The pharmacological fact of drug addictions is that benzodiazepenes such as Zoloft, Klonopin etc. create a chemical effect that leads the addict back to the drug of CHOICE. Technically, it is quite possible that those meds led him to the cocaine and marijuana use. That has nothing to do with his WILL, it is how drug addiction works. No plane crash, quite possibly no return to using. Just an unfortunate fact. But since DJ A.M had no children-I don't know how going after monetary compensation can help anyone, it will not bring him back. I think his family must just be grasping at straws in grief. They are just angry…when someone dies you want to make sense of it.
How about suing DJAM for being a junkie? shit like this is RUINING the country.
It doesn't change the fact that he is gone. Let it go and continue to grieve and stop placing the blame for his untimely death.
Give me a frigin break! Anything to make a buck I guess!
Ridiculous! Obviously DJ AM's family are a bunch of money grubbing assholes.
I didn't know that Doctor's prescribed crack for burns and anxiety. Who knew. The worst part is they are suing the estate of the dead pilots and dragging their families into their greed because DJ AM was a drug addict who killed himself. He was even doing a show about being an addict. He surely knew what that entailed. What horrible people they must be!
This probably won't even get inside a court room. They'll be offered a settlement and they'll probably take it. Bringing this into a court room may bring others forward to seek legal action. Ahhh money truly is the root of all evil. People want money–don't want to work for it…lazy! They say your one lawsuit away from retirement. Look at the most recent lawsuit filed against McDonalds a girl got 35k from spilling hot tea on herself says they didn't put cover on right. We all know by now to be careful hot tea burns!!
One *could* correlate the two (plane crash = his death) - it's definitely not going to be an easy case to prove though.
RIP Adam.
That's a bunch of BS. RIP Adam
Just let him rest in peace and get over any law suites. any addict can tell you, it's YOUR own choice to take drugs. Sure, after being burned and hospitalized, he was most deifintely given something for pain. BUT after that - an addict knows that Crack won't make anything go away. let the two pilots rest in peace - their family is missing them badly, the last thing they need is a mindless law suit. if this really makes it to court, then i'm going to sue coors fro supplyling coors light to the city in which i live. let's get real.
Disgusting. He was a drug addict who did it to himself but as usual in Hollywood these freaks are never responsible for their own actions. Drag the families of the pilots into this……very nice.
Why do Americans never take responsibility for their own problems, they always blame someone else and then sue them?
desperate for more money.
