Billboard Changes Sales Calculations

After only including releases from the previous 18 months to calculate the best selling albums on the Billboard chart, Billboard will now be incorporating catalog releases due to the massive sales of both Michael Jackson and The Beatles.
The sales chart on November 25 will be the first official comprehensive chart.
In digital music news 4 artists have already broken Rihanna's track sales record of 9.9 million digital songs in 2008 including Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift.
But the biggest news is probably that Taylor Swift is the only artist that outsold Michael Jackson this year in album sales!
That's a mighty big accomplishment, T-Swizzle! Congratulations!

Most of Taylor's fans are white girls between 8 and 16. The CMA's a popularity contest and her wired fans voted over and again to make sure she won the entertainer of the year award. But, she's not Country. She's Pop-Country.

ok Michaels music soared to the top of the charts since his death, in 5 months he out sold many of todays artist, that right there shows hes the KING OF POP. taylor has the advantage on him since her album has been out since 08. michaels music before the time of his death has been selling but not as much to chart the charts. since billboard is counting the charts for the last 18 months she has 7 months of sales ahead of him so of course she would come out on top. give michaels music credit perez, he outsold you lady caca

Jackson has sold just a bit over 6.5 million albums in the US and more than 9 million digital downloads in 2009. Michael Jacksons movie This is It has grossed over 200million dollar all around the world. I imagine by this coming weekend, Jackson will officially claim the US' #1 concert movie (he has already done this globally by a long shot). His new CD/album, also called This Is It took the #1 spot on Billboard with selling more than 350 000 copies in its first week and in the second week it will have sold more than 500 000 albums in the US. THIS IS IT has sold 1,185,000 in countries that count music sales. all around the world.
Now to Taylor Swift, yes, she has the biggest selling album in the America but Michael Jacson is te biggest selling artist in the US and in the world.
Taylor Swift has sold around 2,097,252 million albums and MJ has sold 6,5 million albums (thriller, bad, history, number ones etc).

How is outselling Michael Jackson an accomplishment? Taylor's cd has been out for over a year and is new music. Michael doesn't have an album of new music and 99% of his sales came in the last 5 months.
Sorry but no1 here in Europe knows Taylor Swift, only in America she is known because only americans listen to country.. It doesn't matter that Michael has passed because obviously his passing couldn't stop the world from seeing that he is a God; God of entertainment. Michael and his music will always receive praise so if you don't like that then perhaps you should never listen to the radio and only play your Taylor Swift CD's because his music/legacy is here 4ever

FYI, Taylor's latest album has been in the top ten in charts from dozens of countries around the world, and has even gone gold or platinum in such unlikely countries as Norway, Australia, the UK, and Japan. I'm not even a fan of hers and I know that. Do a little research before you make such baseless statements.
As for Americans having bad taste, take a look at the charts around Europe, and you'll the very acts you condemn from America are dominating those charts. I guess if it were up to you, though, we'd all be listening to Kylie Minogue and bloody Cascada.

Nothing against MJ, but let's put it in perspective. He died, that's why he sold all those albums. He can only do that ONE time, so that's about as good as it gets for him, and it still didn't beat Taylor. He didn't sell well at all 2 years ago, and in 2 more years he won't sell either. I don't listen to or purchase him or her so it makes no difference to me, but statistically speaking, NEITHER's actual album sales for the year were that spectacular.
Looks like Taylor Swift is next in line as the Princess of Pop just behind Britney. 13 top forty hits from one album. That's insane. Also, more top forty hits this decade than any other artist. These are facts. Hard to believe I know. I think I've only heard a couple of her songs. Still, Taylor has sold over 10 million albums ww. GaGa doesn't even come close. And 'Love Story' isn't the only song to be played, 'You Belong With Me' is played quite often on the radio and I see the music video on TV. I've also heard 'White Horse' and 'Teardrops On My Guitar' on the radio as well =p
You may wanna check your facts before you post comments, because quite a lot of people know about her in Europe, she's just a lot more popular in America.
And I wouldn't diss America's taste in music (especially as America is a huge country and you can't possibly speak for every individual living there) cos we've had some fucking awful songs on our charts.
