Olympics Off To A Rocky Start Before Kickoff!

Filed under: TV News > Zportz > Business Blitz

NBC thought they had hit gold when they put Jay Leno in at 10 got the rights to the Winter Olympics, but it seems their plan has backfired.

With only three months to go until the big event, the network still has 30% of its ad time to sell! Could it be that NBC's asking price is a little too steep for advertisers?

That'll change rather quickly when they realize they need to recoup what they paid for the rights to air the games!

Maybe Jay can buy some airtime!

The Olympics are NOT to a rocky start, idiot! It's NBC who has problems, that's all.

Serves them right! being greedy right now when all that the stupid olympics are doing is fucking BC's economy!!

  3. 3

Everything about the Olympics is over-priced, and over-rated. I think it's funny that people are flipping tickets as fast as they flip their condos in this city. Vancouverites have no soul. It's all about money, just like anything in life.

It's not the Olympics that are off to a rocky start it's NBC. That's insulting to those working on the Olympics!

NBC coverage of the Olympics sucks, no wonder they can't get advertisers. They usually show events a day late. Their features on the athletes sucks also, corny and overproduced. If you want to see how it should be done, watch the CBC, it's coverage always outshines any other network.

It was actually the same way for the last olympics too but it all sold out before they started. It has nothing to do with NBC.

I agree with Perez Smells His Skidmarks. CBC's olympic coverage is way better than NBC

The Olympics are fine. It is NBC that is having a problem selling. That seems to happen ever time there is a winter Olympics. Most of the events most people do not care about. But they will sell the spots eventually.

I guess they'll have to follow their sponsors overseas to sign them up. Earn that bonus! Earn that bonus!

NBC is having problems…not the 2010 Olympics.
Bunnybunnz…..are you from Vancouver????? I AM….and I have LOTS of soul thank you very much

Wait, they have 30% of it ad time left with 3 months to go; so this means they have sold 70% of the ad time.

That sounds pretty good, if you ask me.

As I recall, some of the ads for superbowls don't get sold until about 2 wks before the event, because companies are waiting for a bargain.

Re: bunnybunnz – Wow. When I went to the 1988 Calgary Olympics, Calgarians wouldn't part with their tickets for anything. Must be a recession on. I think I'll fly to Vancouver and get me some tickets. :)
