Meow! Simon Vs. Sting

Filed under: Anglophilia > Simon Cowell > Sting

scsting.jpg

Their claws are out!

Sting had some choice words for Simon Cowell and his show The X Factor, including "appalling," "bland," and "soulless!"

The singer says:

"It's a preposterous show, and you have judges who have no recognizable talent apart from self-promotion. Basically I was looking at televised karaoke where they conform to stereotypes. It is a soap opera which has nothing to do with music."

Cowell shot back with a jab of his own followed by an invitation for Sting to appear on the show!

"Talking about these contestants being a bunch of karaoke no-hopers … I thought it was pompous…Someone has got a little bit grumpy. We'd like a Sting week…He hasn't called yet. We're waiting!"

Sting, apparently unable to take a joke, had a rather long-winded reply to the invitation:

"I wouldn't get on The X Factor because I don't sound like anyone they're after. I sound like myself. I think they are basically aping pre-existing stereotypes of what singers should do and they're not being themselves."

We have to agree with Simon on this one, Sting! And it's no easy feat to look like the asshole next to Simon Cowell!

Lighten up!

Sting is correct…but Cowell does have a knack for promoting pop crap like The Spice Girls and making millions. I'll give him that. Good business man.

Sting has always been a pompous ass with an ego the size of Texas. Just ask the other guys from The Police.

  3. 3

i dont even read this anymore its all nonsense….and yes i think i am going to stop coming here. this world is a joke

  4. 4

Go Sting - sayin it like it is. Shows like Idol and X Factor are rubbish.

  5. 5

Try and name one original sounding performer to come out of the Idol shows or X Factor. The Police and Sting have an original sound and that is why their music stands the test of time. Something tells me in 20-30 years time no one will remember Ruben Studard or Clay Aiken or whoever else wins those shows.

  6. 6

oh…ha self promotion! televised kareoke! thats funny, and true i never watched the x factor

  7. 7

Sting is beyond right here…see unfortunately you live in this fake bubble world like Simon Cowell also.

Has anyone heard Sting's new album???? Check it out and you'll know exactly why he's grumpy. Just bad. He's run out of ideas and getting nervous he'll have to resort to being on the x factor. A little to scary for him.

  9. 9

Kinda agree with Sting here… If U have the same peepz judging over years, the music will probably sound the same, because the judges have their taste of music. I would think that singers will try to be/sound more like someone who has did well before, rather then try to do it in their own way. Which is what I believe Sting is trying to say.. But maybe/hopefully the judges like all kinds of styles and music equally….

Re: Starbella – did you take your meds after the first comment?

  11. 11

I AGREE WITH STING!!! Simon has no right to judge and insult people when he doesn't have an ounce of talent. he thinks his job is soooo hard, yeah im pretty sure an ape can tell if someone is a bad singer or not. i really cant stand simon

  12. 12

Sting is a jerk and always has been so is Simon, no wonder they don't get along double douches

  13. 13

You'll be waiting for a frosty fucking friday in hell Cowell.

  14. 14

Ym. Even though we t'd earlier.

  15. 15

Sting is right on the money, pun intended. I have yet to hear a more accurate description of that hateful show.

  16. 16

    sting is dead on correct.

  17. 17

Sting is one of the biggest cocks great britain has ever produced… but on this occasion he seems to be a rare sensible voice in a sea of brainwashed fools.

Watch the final of X Factor & you will see the two finalists have less talent than most people kicked off at Hollywood week of AI. It's an absolute shambles of a show, which is so obviously manipulated to push the muppets cowell wants to the front, I can't understand why anyone watches it.

The comment about the judges is so true too. The whole goal of Idol was that the contestants are the stars, hence the reason after hollywood week its down to the public votes. X Factor puts the contestants secondary to the judges, creating all these fake rifts and squabbles. It explains entirely why ITV is in such a mess.

    Sting is absolutely right…!!!
Idol and X factor are really stupid shows…I never got it why some people liked them…You cannot find good artists like that…
Those shows doesn´t have anything to do with music… Just listen how they judge, haha…Music is not about "pitchy or not" or hitting the right notes or having charisma or "fantastic"or whatever crap they use to say…haha
Or it´s definitely not about being liked or not by Cowell

god he is sooo right. souless - perfect description. love sting

  20. 20

I hate the X Factor with a passion, that and Katie Price have ruined British TV (actually all of our media) but I hate Sting a million times more. He is totally fake, he did the worst thing possible and thought he was better than where he came from, better than the people. It's funny how Sting is jumping on the X Factor bandwagon just as he has an album out?! Hmmm mysterious! I like it when you don't hear from Sting for years with his fake accent (no bugger from Wallsend or anywhere in the North East talks like that) and his annoyingness!

  21. LCFB says – reply to this

    21

    i agree a 100% with sting.

  22. 22

Everybody knows reality tv is the debil
('cept for X-Files, Star Trek, Buffy & Naruto)

  23. 23

    "appalling," "bland," and "soulless"

Are you sure Sting wasn't describing his music of the last 15 years?
    Zing!

  24. 24

Whatever……Sting is one of the biggest rock performers of all time. Who the fuck is Simon Cowell besides some ornery AI judge? Fuck Simon. Sting is the man!

  25. 25

Oh God, talk about souless and bland, has STing ever listened to his own shit? If I have to hear "Every breath you take" one more time on my radio I`m going to smash it.

The truth is these kids on X Factor & Idol prove that it really doenst take much to be a a superstar. I have seen people on these shows give better performances than the artists they are covering, it makes them look bad.

Here is a 18 year old kid doing your song, they are getting the attention, they learned it in a week. Its jealousy.

The last Sting concert I went to, Annie Lennox opened and the whole place was mad jumping. Sting came on, and people were literally falling asleep, it was so artsy fartsy. However, I get and like his musical vision and Stingy sound, and think it more suited to intimate venues now that he doesn't seem to have the will to kick some arse. If that's a gauntlet, I guess I threw it. Simon is, well, sexy.

  31. 31

simon actually said alot more than that perez, he some really good points against sting. im with simon on this one. we wouldnt have leona without him

and the lovely queen of dagnam STACEY (hope she wins)

  32. 32

He looks like Richard, that guy who won Survivor.

  33. 33

Sting is right on this one, I never heard of Simon Cowell until American Idol came on, fucking nobody

  34. 34

Re: DJcamp – - err have you actually watched the x factor coz you seem to know nothing about it…

  35. 35

I just thought all talent shows were supposed to be a little hokey and fun?
    ***
But I agree sometimes xfactor is awful.

  36. 36

    Team Sting

  37. 37

Perez you are such an old queen. Sting is RIGHT ON. Simon Cowell should have been lambasted YEARS ago. Political correctness in entertainment has sustained his career. American Idol 'IS' Star Search. Just Another sign of the times. The end of an era. Ed McMahon is calling his lawyer from Forest Lawn.

  38. 38

    Sting is correct.
    Cowell's shows appeal to fishbowl-mediocre-unartistic-lamoid-robots.

  39. rsvp says – reply to this

    39

Sting is totally correct. It's a sham. All they really care about is the tween vote because they are the only ones buying the music and they are the ones with the worst taste in music and performers. They constantly vote out the most obviously talented of the contestants and vote for style over substance. The music industry is terrible right now because they've killed off all the truly creative, original voices and shows likes these just keep that travesty going.

  40. 40

Re: Merab – Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke came from th x factor. Leona is a global star, the first british artist to dominate the us charts in the last 10-20 years. and alexandra first single was the fastest selling single of the decade at the point of sale. and her new single is one of the top selling singles of this year in the uk. shows can produce great talent. dont tarr every contestant with the same brush

  41. 41

    They sound like two 4th-graders

  42. LEAH. says – reply to this

    42

Sting is such a catty, unhappy, bitchy man. This is the guy who jizzes every time Obama speaks and thinks people care about his political opinions, let alone his opinions in general. Yeah, nobody with talent comes out of these shows. Kelly Clarkson?? Who is that, never heard of her…

  43. Funzo says – reply to this

    43

    sting is correct.

  44. 44

    SORRY….STING IS RIGHT!!

There are NO individuals on these shows.

They ALL sound alike. and not in a good way.

  45. 45

ever since he left the police, the music sucked.

  46. 46

Stings head is up his own arse.

  47. 47

I AGREE WITH STING! How could any true fan of real music, talent, and song writing not agree.. these shows are disgusting..and that's why music SUCKS these days–no heart and no soul.
    ;-(

  48. 48

    hey
Poindexter-X .. This phrase. "hes a good business man" is sooo over used and it doesn't deserve ANY respect..it has nothing to do with being a good human. Everyone needs to stop worshiping the dollar. You can say I'm a dreamer….

  49. 49

These has been stars come out of the wood work when they want some publicity. This was just Stings way of getting some for himself. We're all talking about him aren't we. I guess it worked.

  50. 50

the only concert i ever walked out of in my whole longish life was a Sting concert. I think the show was called sex, love…something. Anyway it was just like sitting and listening to some middle aged egomaniac coke head sing about himself for what seemed an eternity….eeeew

  51. Bokay says – reply to this

    51

Sting is always correct. I am his biggest fan and he is right. These shows are all about the judges and how did they even become judges of music???? They are not musicians. Everyone sounds the same they look the same and one day we did not even know who Simon was and then poof he was judging people not on their talent, but the way they looked and how their faces were fucked and on and on. So, Sting wins this hands down and Cowell fuck off.

  52. 52

Sting is correct. The only thing that gives Simon the right to judge music, is money and a bad attitude.

  53. 53

Re: stellagranos – i'd like to know the same thing.

  54. 54

Sting is correct in this. American Idol, X Factor and all these other similar type shows are all producing PRODUCT like Britney, etc and not real ARTISTS. While occasionally, someone with talent can somehow make it through the system in place on these shows, almost always, such singers fit the mold of "successful music pop star", ie cookie-cutter, boring with all the same writers that push the shit that comes out on AM radio all the time.

When the Police came out, it wasn't because they sounded like so many other groups. It's because they did their own thing.

I'm with Sting 100% on this.

  55. 55

Yeah Simon produced who? The Spice Girls? Garbage! Sting is than man i have so much more respect for him now! Xfactor and American Idol or anything he's involved in just flat out blows! Simon should be executed on live tv! Now id tune in for that shizz.

  56. 56

2 arseholes = no fun for anyone

  57. 57

This is such bad "journalism". The final quote by Sting WAS NOT a response to Simon's comment. Sting said it on the BBC's One Show last week, I believe. It has been taken out of context. Yet again, Perez's manipulation…

  58. 58

sting, it's a fucking reality show! if simon's shows find a great talent (which they have done with leona lewis and adam lamebert) then that's great. but it's a reality show first. it's there to entertian. shut up! i love simon!

  59. 59

    sorry, lambert.

  60. 60

wow it just seems like alot of shiz for nothing
