We Need To Feed America!
This is unacceptable!
One in seven Americans struggles to get enough to eat, the government reported on Monday, and more than a third go hungry from time to time — the highest levels since the "food security" report began in 1995.

At the same time, we have record levels of morbid obesity. Seems more of us could go without "from time to time."
Maybe if all the money wasn't being horded in Hollywood and misspent in Washington.
I will never understand this, why is it everyone can help other countries but can't help the one they live in, blows my mind. Angelina and all her charity work, Madonna and hers, Oprah and her school, why not help out here at home??? Kids need adopted from America, kids need food, shelter, clothing why not help out in your own backyard first!!!! What about the Vets, the homeless person who just needs a helping hand….as I said HELP OUT IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD FIRST!!
i sure am hungry dammit.
Stop stuffing your fat face then.
Don't worry Obama will save them. He'll shoot some rainbows out of his ass and the everyone will be happy
Maybe your idol Madonna could lend a buck or two from her stash?
Skip a meal fat boy and stop swallowing so much jizz.
maybe another stimulus package???
No kidding.
America is in trouble. And deeper trouble than President Obama can fix in the 10 months he's been in charge.
This country has been sliding down hill for a long time .. it's called DENIAL.
Sad and scary.
Re: Cyber-bullies get hit – exactly! and from the look of Mario's waste line he could stand to miss a few meals…
See there are other more pressing issues than gay marriage….
"We Need To Feed America!" - get a fucken job and stop relying on welfare!
My household buys groceries for a needy family once a month and it still isn't enough. It's sad when people go with out and so much food is thrown away and wasted.
Re: Aquarius71 – Wow. You took the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't agree more. I've often wondered how much money is being raised in other countries for poor, starving Americans. I'd bet that the answer is none.
Re: Aquarius71 – That would be the typical ethnocentric response from an uneducated American. The reason why charities help THIRD WORLD countries, and the reason why celebs probably help these countries/people, is because they are THIRD WORLD. These places dont even have toilets! Not to mention everything else they dont have. Imagine next time you go and have a shit, having to go in your front yard amongst steaming piles of crap from your family and others.
-
Why would there be charities set up to help the RICHEST COUNTRY ON EARTH? That idea is so ludicrous that I cant believe you would even consider it for a second. When was the last time you did some charity work/donated money to 'your own backyard'?
-
In an African country the majority of orphans are orphans because their parents have been killed by war/AIDs/malaria/starvation. In the US, orphans are probably there because their parents were on crack/couldnt afford the widescreen TV/boob job, etc. The US spends more on defence IN ONE DAY than the whole of Africa can spend on food in a year.
-
But then again this will probably 'blow your mind' to think about and you wont even get it. Seriously dipshit - you live in the richest country in the world. put it in perpective.
Re: rosie111 – Good point, Rosie. A lot of these people who are having trouble feeding their families are walking around in designer jeans and sneakers and parking there kids in front of x-box and blowing the food budget on fast food rather than taking the time to prepare meals. In America, you have many choices.
I agree with helping out in our own backyard. This whole nation being our own backyard. These food kitchens/pantries need help ALL year long with donations….a little donation goes a long ways.
If 1 in 7 are struggling for food, the other 6 are eating the extra. It's so easy to donate to food and family-health charities, especially with Christmas coming up. Let's take this knowledge and donate our extras to charity. Compared to third-world countries, 1 in 7 isn't startling, but any starvation in our own country is unacceptable– especially considering obesity is [supposedly] our #1 health concern.
wow really? when most Americans are fat? uh what are they talking about??? I know that there are poor Americans but hunger other than say missing a meal or two is not a problem, most poor people are fat.
Michele Obama could grow a veggie garden big enough to feed everyone if she set her mind to it. But the secret service dudes might not like having to do all that watering and weeding.
Oh please I don't buy that at all. The homeless guys on my street turn down food when people offer it, because they want money for drugs and drinks instead.
Re: rosie111 – I've travelled extensively in the third world, and they do, in fact, have toilets.
.
If the conservatives in America weren't so hell bent on taking welfare from the people that actually need it, more people would have food. At least in the UK we try to keep our citizens alive and healthy, not sick, poor, and starving.
So much for the "richest country on earth".
Oh please. OHHH Please. Somalians don't go "hungry from time to time". They starve to death, are malnourished, have no access to nutrition education or medicine, and have been cut off by the WFP for emergency aid because America doesn't want to pay anymore. That "occasionally" hungry American can get a 59 cent taco at taco bell. Unfortunately, there aren't many taco bells in Sub Saharan Africa.
Gross, first world centric thinking. Gross gross gross.
umm this is not new news….there have been PSAs playing all over the radio and on tv regarding this information.
Re: Aquarius71 – and what are you doing to help? besides sitting at your PC bitching that a few celebs are helping other countries. Do you realize that some of these celebs you have mentioned live in more then one country? Do you also realize that these celebs have done a ton of charity work here in the states? Guess not…do your research before you start bashing!
Re: RobPnMeShouldB – ok then how about you go out and tell the millions of people that have been laid off just how to find a job in an economy that is in the shitter. I was laid off from my job this past summer and have been looking everyday since and still have had no luck, thankfully I am in school right now but stop saying people are just relying on welfare and not trying to find a job.
Re: rosie111 – AS a matter of fact Rosie I do help out in my backyard!!! I give to the United Way on a weekly basis out of my paycheck, I donate cloths to the needy, I also help raise a 6 yr old who is not my own so tell me what I do!!! What have you done in your own backyard??????? I doubt nothing. I am educted, I believe in helping out others but first and always first should come your own, AMERICA, yes we are the richest county but how rich are we if we can't help feed our fellow Americans?? Start at home first and then work from there and most of these places that need help "Third World" have been this way for years upon years that is their life, that is all they have ever known, but here the "richest country" it isn't and some people, a lot of people need help. Why not donate your time and learn something.
14% of America struggles to get enough food.
A report put out about 10 years ago by the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated that America as a whole throws out 96 billion pounds of edible food per year and that the average American eats 4.85 pounds of food each day. So, that amount of food could feed the rest of the world for 4 days.
We have Harvesters here in the Midewest. I make it a point when I buy grocerys to include a few items for the homeless and people who need real
help. You can get oatmeal, cereal, canned goods, etc. Cannot give fresh fruits and veggies. But, I try to do this everytime i shop. That way someone will not go to bed hungry! Check your local store everyone is doing it for the holiday season. But hunger goes on long after the holidays are over. God bless America!
-
good, this is good - so now I am sure when that idiot Jolie or that fame whore Madonna run off and kidnap some African baby you'll throw these facts at them instead of inserting your tongue into their starfish and calling them saints?
-
Re: Serena!!!COLON!!! You Twats – Oh, so the guy from the UK knows more about the state of the poor in the US than those of us who actually live her. That's interesting.
*
And yes, toilet do, in fact, exist in the third world. But there are millions and millions of people living without them. Not only that, but basics like clean water and schools.
*
Everyone in the US has access to a toilet. In the most dire circumstances, there is always access to homeless shelters and food kitchens. We take care of people in America. But the people have to do SOMETHING to take care of themselves as well.
*
P.S. Most people on welfare are TOO LAZY to work. There is no excuse not to work if you are an able-bodied individual. I am a very liberal person too, but you've never seen the poor people here turn down food because they want drug money (as was mentioned about) or brought food to a homeless guy who isn't the same one as was there a minute before because "he's on break." What!?
Re: Cyber-bullies get hit – I'm an American ex-pat.
Sounds like my life. Say what you will, but only having enough $$ for one meal a day really does make you lose weight….. sigh
You call "helping out in your own backyard first" bashing, unreal. Angelina has adopted but has she adopted a child from the US "NO", Madonna has adopted but did she adopted a child from the US "NO", Oprah has built a school for young women has she built a school for young women in the US "NO", HELL YES I am bashing them, start here first, kids here are born everyday, yes maybe by some mother that should have kept her legs closed but didn't happen, a child was born and needs to be adopted but yet you go out of the states to get one, why??? Aren't ours good enough??? If I had money to adopted I sure as hell would start here first!! Homeless need help, Vets need us, but yet they get nothing back. Backyard first always!!!
Re: Aquarius71 – I think more people want to adopt out of the country because it's easy for the natural parents to come back later and demand their kid be returned to them. It's happened a lot here, and if you adopt out of the country, then the laws in place are totally different. Someone from China cannot come back and demand that you give them back their biological kid…
Re: Cyber-bullies get hit – Trust me, I do understand that. I was in the Peace Corps.
You know, seal meat is very nutritious. Maybe if we didnt have so many misinformed celebrities preaching against it then it could be used as a means to supliment the poor starving Americans.
tax the super rich - hello hollywood a list
and donald trump and rupert murdoch
and give people free bloody healthcare
its a disgrace and its sending people broke trying to look after their families
If you'd step away from the buffet table maybe there'd be enough food for everybody fatboy.
Re: kiounne – I'll agree with you there, it is easier to adopt out of country but with the influence these ppl have it should be easier for them to adopt here first. As I said I wish I was able to adopt, I am 38 yrs old and unable to have children so when I see someone (celebrity) going out of country to adopt I find it strange because they have the money, they have the pull from other celebrities more than likely they would be able to adopt here and make sure that the bio-parents couldn't come back later.
Re: Aquarius71 –
So what do YOU do to help? Do you volunteer? Donate?
My guess is nothing.
If all the millions of fatty Americans stopped fucking eating everything, those without, might be able to get a look in.
America are the worst…no wonder everyone hates on the place.
Re: pusspuss – Read above #28
1% of our country has 99% of the money.
Wow! I bet I can make some real $$ by putting my hoard of government cheese on Ebay.
if your Government started to care about its citizens instead of its companies and using money for the people instead of useless wars for commodities domination… that would be something else.
your country is rich enough in all aspects. and what you don't have, can be acquired using the right strategies, negotiating (and not blowing up a country with a "terrorist" excuse some of your dirty minded politicians first started).
you're a great country, be proud of it, but your exterior affairs politics is to be ashamed of. remove those shameful persons, bring back your troops, help yourselves, negotiate with the world, and be an example for all the rest. please.
ps: being obese doesn't have anything to do with being properly feed. to eat fat and mostly artificial food is to not eat right.
so sad we live in this free, wonderful land and so many are suffering
americans are a bunch of fat asses ok? maybe its time for Soylent Green !!!!!!!!! let all the piggies start eating eachother
Soylent Green
Take a number. The hungry bankers always come first.
I would be one of those..but I'm not American =)…I'm Canadian, seems to be the same up here. My husband and I have two little girls and can barely put food on the table no matter how hard we work. He works 7 days a week most of the time to all hours, and same here. Some days I just wish I could spend more time with my girls =(
Why, when we can feed Africa and Latin America? Right Madonna…
My family has been one of those families who've gone hungry. I was laid off from my job when my company decided to outsource to overseas. I pray no one commenting here ever has to see one of their children crying from hunger, as I've seen mine. Or tell one of your children that there simply is no money to have dinner and that dinner instead is a half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I have had to do that. Yes, we sought the help of food pantries and so on. But even these places are now having to strictly reduce their assistance because the donations to keep those place afloat aren't coming in. Thank goodness I have another job now and things are looking up for us. But being hungry is a terrible tragedy to be visited upon anyone, let alone a child. I pray that something is done to reduce hunger everywhere.
Re: RobPnMeShouldB –
You are obviously ignorant to what is actually going on in this country. I have a masters degree in architecture, yet can't find a job that pays enough for rent and living expenses, so the food budget at the end of the month is pretty non-existent.
Not everyone who is tight on money is on welfare. Pull your head out of your smelly conservative ass and open your eyes.
I get sick of hearing about people complaining about being hungry, when they are spitting out children they can't afford to have . . . I feed homeless animals, because at least I know they can't help it.
Re: Candy Barr –
There but for the grace of God goes you. I pray you never find yourself on the other end of your statement.
Re: Kirstin86 – The harp seal multiplies quickly, and isn't endangered. Everyone agrees that they're cute; (so were the rabbits in Australia along with the kangaroos) but if the seal herds aren't controlled, they'll gobble up a good lot of the ocean's fish, and then where will the world be? Chasing seals, that's what. Canada's northern populations have been eating and wearing seal for over 4,000 years, but citified folk take one look at that face, and common sense leaves there heads.
well maybe skiping a meal or two will do those fat asses some good…. maybe if they tried cooking once in a wile…you know making your own food, what you have never heard of such a thing, well belive it or not you can cook your own food FAT ASSES
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT PEREZ THEY ARE A HAMBURGER AWAY FROM A HEARTATTACK
Perhaps all of the USA could get a 5 course meal from 1 of your 'small snacks'…. You're fat. Fatty.
Did you know that our government is lending 2 trillion that we don't even have to someone and won't say to who. It is our right to know and they aren't saying to who!! I am surprised it hasn't been on any of the new's network's but I haven't seen it yet. This is money we don't have mind you but our government is still spending it is just not on us the people of this country and yes we have people starving and our govenment is not doing anything to help us!!
Re: RobPnMeShouldB – dont talk about something you do not know about, the elderly cant survive on their S.Security, and there are working people that go with out food, they pay their house hold bills first.
Re: Aquarius71 – Aquarius if they're anything like you and have the potential to share your misplaced ethnocentric patriotism then no, an american orphan would be good enough for these people. I guess they think that the USA is big enough and ugly enough to look after itself!
-
as for my toilet comment - yes obviously there are toilets in the 3rd world - but not everywhere, and it was a simple reminder that the simple things in life that we take for granted in the 'first world' dont exist in these places. It was an analogy.
-
In the US you offer a homeless person some boiled rice to eat and they tell you to F-off and ask for a cheeseburger. In Africa give them the rice and there is a stampede for it. And YES i'm aware that it's not all of Africa and they do eat things other than boiled rice blah blah blah - all you people that are going to pick apart that analogy keep your knockers on.
Re: Aquarius71 – It's also a little sad Aquarius that you say these countries have only ever known poverty whilst in teh US the homeless and ungry havent. So does that mean because it's all they have ever known, then they dont urgnetly need help because they're used to it? Doesn't that just highlight their plight even more, and again down-grade the 'plight' of the American hungry?
-
Re; Kansasmama,
This is truly a sad state of affairs, I'm glad things are looking up for you and your family. I plan to donate cash instead of food to our local food pantry this year, they can get more for their $$. Good luck to you, and to all of those who are looking for work.
